Liverpool related transfer speculation

NEW: The sporting director, Richard Hughes, will already be assessing left back options, primarily as Andrew Robertson will soon turn 31, with Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez among those being considered.

[@_pauljoyce]
Surely he "assessed" him when he took him to Bournemouth, or am I wrong in thinking he was the sporting director there

Is "assessing" before "monitoring" or the other way around?
'Assessing' is when scouts are sent to see them more than 15 times. Anything less than 15 is 'considering'.
More than 15 times it's scouts are sent to watch the player 'several' times.

'Monitoring' is when we've offered a shit contract and they tell us they want more.

It’s a doom loop where they feed each other so that we are constantly assessing, then monitoring, then assessing again, then monitoring, then monitoring, then assessing…

It will continue until Hughes breaks Bluebell & Binomial completely… then he’ll move on to Moron by trying to sell CJ.

To sell players requires work, and our recent history suggests we only sell fringe players. CJ will be allowed to run his contract down

Woah woah woah - you are getting ahead of yourself there. Monitoring is when we let it 'slip' to our tame journos that we have completed the 'assessing' phase and now want to prod the players' team to let slip any juicy bargain contract details cf. Mac Allister

Cherki available for €23m

Any takers?

it all sounds good - but rightly or wrongly - you guys have kind of introduced him in such a way that it reminds me of that period when we had GH, and all these French youngsters were going to be the next Zizzou etc but turned out to be completely fucking shite in reality. Let's not do this to ourselves.

Is it true that this guy only plays for 60 mins in the games he has played in Ligue1 ? - if so how do you expect him to last 45 minutes in an English PL game ?

Looks like Utd have made a jump to sign Dorgu of Lecce

Manchester United are in talks to sign left-back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce.

Discussions have begun over the 20-year-old as United line up options ahead of making decisions on ins and outs this month.

Nothing is yet agreed but head coach Ruben Amorim is keen to add reinforcements in the January window amid a run of form that has seen his new side slip to just 10 points above the Premier League’s relegation zone.

Dorgu, who has been capped four times by Denmark, has made 43 first-team appearances for Lecce having joined from Danish club Nordsjælland in 2022. He has scored three times in Serie A this term.

He signed a new contract in October that runs until 2028.

United’s squad is in need of more players suited to Amorim’s preferred 3-4-2-1 formation with Dorgu seen as one who could fit in.

Diogo Dalot is a specialist right-back yet has been deployed in the left-wing back role, while first-choice left-back Luke Shaw has been yet to make a start in any competition this season due to injuries, having been limited to just 12 Premier League starts in 2023-24.

The Athletic reported earlier in January that United were exploring a loan exit for left-back Tyrell Malacia.

The right-sided wing-back role has most often been filled by Amad, who is naturally a wide forward, or the versatile defender Noussair Mazraoui, who joined from Bayern Munich in the summer.

I really like Douglaz Luiz... There is no chance the Liverpool hierarchy will approve the loan, but if there was no obligation to buy, I would take him.
Are there any loan deals for LBs?
Manchester City are considering a loan move for Brazil midfielder Douglas Luiz, 26, though current club Juventus are pressing for an obligation to buy to be included in the proposed deal. (Athletic)

thought cherki could do more on the wing a backup to Salah, as he plays right mid a decent amount
He'd work as a sort of wing playmaker, I guess. But he doesn't have blistering pace.
It's like playing Harvey on the wing but with better dribbling.

Harvey at the 10 and Harvey at the 11. Fucking hello titles for the next decade

If we’re interested as reported then an early swoop might happen when Utd show their hand.

But…I think Kerkez is our prime target and we’re lining up a summer transfer now.

papers saying we're in talks with Kimmich. We are talking about a player on €400k a week at the moment, he is quality but he is 29 and he will ask for at least €300k/w.

Word is that Bournemouth want 50 million pounds for Kerkez this window.

Think we'll sit it out hoping the price will fall, (which it won't) and regret it later.

I reckon they’re just trying to keep hold of him mid season, especially since they’re challenging for a European place…

40m in the summer to us is my guess.

He's not going for less than £50m

We missed the boat in the summer

NEW: One train of thought is that Konaté may wait to see the outcome of talks with Van Dijk, Salah and Alexander-Arnold before deciding his own future.

Sounds like he is waiting to see what they get before deciding what he is prepared to accept.
