...through the fair-play league placing due to their pre-season tour

I didn't want us in it, but to reject the opportunity for money is wrong. We should be trying to win anything we possibly can, it's a rule for a football club that should never have to be written down.

We haven't actually been offered a place yet and aren't one of the clubs in line to get one at this time are we?

We'll beat Everton and they'll lose against Chelsea in the last game of the season.
Europa league place secured.
Scratch that, just found out that it's the 5th placed team, FA cup winner and League cup winner.
Since Man C will win it, the 2nd Europa league spot will go to Wigan and the 3rd will go to Spurs I believe.

Football is dead.

Sent from the core of my soul, wrenched up by Beelzebub, only to be retrieved by the angel Gabriel, only to slip from his bloody grasp and fly out into the darkened road, where a four-by-fecking-four flattens it as it flies past FAR beyond the speed limit.

Fuck that - the Oz trip is a great thing and an amazing chance for people, who would otherwise have little chance, to see.

It's not even if they are trying to rip fans off - the active support area (as they call it over here) went on sale at $25 which is not much more than you'd pay to watch Ryan O'Hare play over here (in his prime).

One of the things that gets taken for granted in Europe is the ability to see anything approaching a decent footballer - whereas we have to look forward to the excitement of Lucas Neil as a marquee player.

The Melbourne Heart Chairmain recently said he was heading to Europe and would bring back Frank Lampard in his suitcase (I told him I hoped he had a big fucking suitcase then).

The buzz over here generated by Liverpool owning over is immense already - I'd hate to miss out on that - epically for trips to some unpronounceable Eastern European potato field and regular Sunday games.

Rejoice - after their trip to Oz they'll be ready to take on the world.

Someone's making Suarez Cupcakes for the derby on Sunday night, which are being sold for charity.

Needless to say they're bite sized.

All well and good for the supporters down under Stevie but I think European exposure has a more far reaching effect on our millions of supporters around Asia (and the rest of the world) and on players considering joining the club. Players who may now legitimately think we are no longer a good option, in fact just another EPL mid table team with visions of grandeur a la Everton. A trip to OZ does absolutely fuck all for us.

Actually I'd rather we concentrated on our bread and butter. The league.

If it was the old UEFA cup format where you didnt have to play half a seasons worth of games and start 2 weeks after the season ended, I'd be bothered. But I'm not.

4 reasons why this won't happen

A. Coefficient rankings.. We need to remain in Europe or we stand a chance of falling into the pots for the has beens

B. Revenue.. Ok it ain't anywhere near what the Champions league can bring you, but a good run will bring in additional revenue.

C. Being in Europe will go along way to help attracting big name players and also keep big name players at the club.

D. Exposure. A good European run is great exposure for the club, better exposure = more commercial revenue. We are currently seeking a new sponsor, they would want as much exposure possible.

You do realise that Fair play entry is for the top 3 best behaved leagues and England are currently 4th. So, it bollocks anyway we don't get a spot.

That table was December 2012.. No new update released as yet since then. Rumors abound though England are in the top 3.

Id imagine a lot has changed since then..

Because Chelsea topped the Champions League Fair Play table the speculation is that this has bumped England into the top three.

And it's probably Suarez's fault England is fourth
I am sure you know that retrospective bans aren't taken into account when compiling the Fair Play league table.
Only on field yellow and red cards come into the equation.
And yes, I know you were trolling.

Going by the article I read earlier in the week we'll almost certainly be in the top 3 cos 2 of the leagues above us finish sooner/later than ours so it effects the calculation. Or something like that anyway.

Hang on, I thought you already wiped your knob on the renewal and sent it back a few weeks ago?

European exposure in the Champions League yes.... Europa League no - it barely registers till the final.

I bet if there was an opportunity to qualify for the Champions League by winning it.. We would participate no questions asked...

Europa League winners should be given champions league playoff qualification and the runners up 3rd qualifying round qualification.

Watch the sponsors take interest as teams will suddenly start to take it seriously again..

I've often wondered why they didnt at the very least give the winners of the Europa League entry to the qualifying stages of the next season's CL.

Maybe it is too obvious.

Its mad until now they haven't even debated it.. You have lower leagues in Europe, that get qualifying round qulification but But yet the Europa League arguably a bigger competition gets non..

Doesn't make sense imho...
