Lets all laugh at Arsenal....

somewhere on a spurs forum is a similar thread about liverpool!
I dont agree with that at all.
Kolo, Mignolet, Cissokho - Strengthen our defence options (that was something we all knew about)

Aspas and Alberto - Forward options. We needed it.

We are struggling to find that ONE big signing. But thats it.
And We WILL get them.

Hopefully this means Wenger decides his squad is good enough, and sits on his hands for the rest of the window.

Fenerbahce were absolutely terrible. It's hard to imagine many teams of their level playing that poorly in a home champions league qualifying match.

It's been a while since I have seen a team pass the ball that poorly. Just dreadful.

Arsène Wenger says there is 'no chance' of Arsenal signing Luis Suárez
Arsène Wenger said that there was categorically no possibility of Arsenal reviving their interest in Liverpool's Luis Suárez before the closure of the transfer window. He has seen two bids, the second of £40,000,001, rejected for the unsettled striker and there had been some hope at the club that the situation could somehow turn in Arsenal's favour, despite Liverpool's refusal to sell.
But Wenger gave short shrift to the notion after his team's Champions League play-off first-leg victory over Fenerbahce in Istanbul. Asked whether the bid to sign Suárez was over, he replied: "Yes. There is absolutely no chance of that." Wenger, who failed with a £10m offer for Newcastle United's Yohan Cabaye, said that he remained in the market for a midfielder.
"Quality-wise we don't need anybody but number-wise we are short," he said. "We lost [Alex Oxlade-] Chamberlain, [Mikel] Arteta to injuries and [Abou] Diaby is also out – three international midfielders. We tried to bring one in but we are working on that.
"You have to understand that there is still a long way to go. The transfer market starts for me now and a lot of activity will happen between now and 2 September. It starts now. It is like a poker game. People hold their cards as long as possible and see what is happening out there. In the end, they go for decisions.
"First everybody goes on holiday and nobody wants to do anything. Then, in many clubs, there are manager changes. They need to know the squad before they make a decision. There are many, many things but it is always like that."
Wenger was asked whether he was any good at poker. "No," he replied.

A lot of talk about gooners going in big for benzema and Di maria..

I'd be surprised if they got either!

Wenger is one to go after unrealistic transfer targets, but it sounds like another big waste of time on their part

Di Maria they'd probably let go. I can't see how they'd let Benzema go as they're already a little short up front.

Outside of playing Ronaldo at striker or using Morata, they don't have many options, do they?

That feels exceptionally thin for a club in as many competitions as they are.

Bale and or Ronaldo will have no defensive responsibilities and just play up front all the time.

They would let Benzema go if a certain Mr. Suarez was joining them. Ronaldo, Suraez, Bale. That would be frightening.

On Revista they were saying that Benzema got whistled by the fans at the weekend. They've never quite taken to him. Perhaps that's why Arsenal think they have a shot.

I wouldn't want to leave if I was him though. He's finally gotten rid of Higuain and he'll likely be the main man with a serious shot at the title.

Arsene has really lost it, hasn't he?

From Soccernet: "Arsene Wenger reckons Arsenal will have no problem attracting marquee signings... as long as they are in the Champions League.

Gunners manager Wenger has turned his attentions to Real Madrid duo Karim Benzema and Angel Di Maria after missing out on a host of big names, including Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain, already this summer.

But Wenger, who is bracing himself for a frantic final week of the transfer window, claims there are big names who are DESPERATE to join his squad - and an even longer list of former Gunners who want to come back to the north London club!

“The Champions League is, of course, the needed requirement for the top players," said Wenger, ahead of Saturday's trip to Fulham. "The players say, ‘OK, we want to join Arsenal. We want to play the kind of football you play. But as well, we want to play in the Champions League.’ It’s unfortunately like that.

“Look, many players want to join us, because they know. And even more so, all the players who have been here want to come back here.

“It’s not because they like my face! It’s for the way we treat people and for the football we play - or try to play, because unfortunately we’ve not always managed to do it.

“But they find something here they want to know again when they go somewhere else and many, many, many players, believe me, ask me to come back.”

One former player set to come back is free agent Mathieu Flamini.

Agent Darren Dein already has a deal set up for the 29-year-old France international, who had four seasons as a Gunner until 2008, to rejoin following the expiration of his contract at AC Milan.

Wenger has been impressed by Flamini’s fitness levels in training, and knows he can cover both full-back positions as well as in midfield.

But he has cannily played the potential of a deal down, aware that signing an unattached player on a free transfer just now would risk upsetting fans.

“They all want to come back. I don’t know if it is Arsenal or England, but there is something about it, certainly both,” said Wenger.

“Does he (Flamini) regret leaving? You should ask him this question, it would be better. I didn’t ask him that. Would he be ready to come back here? Certainly, yes.

“He works very hard, he has always been a very dedicated player. He has the required (fitness) level. He doesn’t come from a small club. He has played here, and in Milan, and in Marseille.”

Arsenal are facing a major test to bounce back after their opening day defeat to Aston Villa and a gruelling midweek Champions League trip to Turkey to be on the ball in the lunchtime kick-off in the London derby at Craven Cottage.

But Wenger added: “We have to come back to reality, to normal, and win the game, because we didn’t start well and so it’s very important we bounce back very quickly and do not get too far behind the teams who already have six points.

“It’s not ideal but I don’t want to complain about that because we play (Fenerbahce) on Tuesday again, so there’s enough room.

“Honestly, many people complain about 12.45 kick-offs. For me, 12.45 or 3 o’clock, nobody can convince me that you will be a different animal at 3-o’clock than at 12.45.”

Arsene Wenger has hinted Arsenal's summer transfer business could still hinge on Luis Suarez.

Real Madrid may be prepared to sell the Gunners' No1 striker target Karim Benzema to the Londoners if the bid the Spanish giants are said to be preparing for Liverpool hitman Suarez proves successful.

It is an incredible irony that the Uruguayan could yet hold the key to Wenger's transfer window, but the Kop club may be more willing to sell him abroad than they were to an Arsenal side they view as direct rivals for a top-four finish this season.

Wenger said: "That's part of the fact you need three agreements for anybody. It's true that it is sometimes connected with other clubs. But we have to accept that.

"We have our targets, we will try to achieve that and I am confident we will get there. We will not go into the new season with only the number of players we have."

Arsenal are also looking at Espanyol keeper Kiko Casilla - as we first revealed on Tuesday - in case Valencia refuse to lower their valuation of Vicente Guaita.

Wenger has already had a £6m bid for Guaita turned down by the Spaniards.

The Gunners seem certain to sign unattached Mathieu Flamini, an Arsenal player from 2004-08, to cover midfield and both full-back positions.

Of all their other targets, they are closest to landing Yohan Cabaye and hope £16m will be enough to persuade Newcastle to sell the France midfielder.

Wenger is also keen on one of Benzema's Real team-mates, winger Angel Di Maria, which could open the door for Lukas Podolski to leave.

If Arsenal miss out on Benzema, they could turn to Atletico Madrid's Diego Costa - even though the Brazilian, linked with the Gunners and Liverpool earlier this summer, has only just signed a new deal."

Cross gets more annoying by the week. First he was saying the Arse (his team) would get Suarez, then when that began to look unlikely he kept saying the deal was still afloat, now this. Is he anything but an outrider for Gazidis' and Wenger's attempts to buy players these days?

Arsenal want to blow their entire £70million transfer budget on Real Madrid trio Karim Benzema, Mesut Ozil and Angel Di Maria as they bid to rescue a botched summer window.
Arsenal – whose need for reinforcements became desperate on Thursday when they were handed a very tough Champions League draw – have opened talks with Real chiefs over the triple swoop and received encouragement.
Despite all three players insisting they want to stay at the Bernabeu, Real will listen to offers for the trio as they look to balance the books after committing £86m to signing Gareth Bale from Tottenham.

Swoop: Arsene Wenger is planning a £70m raid for Real trio Mesut Ozil, Karim Benzema and Angel Di Maria

Securing a deal for long-term target Benzema is Wenger’s priority, such is his desire to capture a world-class centre forward.
The Gunners are working frantically on a deal that could see all three arrive at the Emirates by the transfer deadline on Monday.
Arsenal confirmed the re-signing of midfielder Mathieu Flamini on a free transfer and have also been offered former Chelsea forward Salomon Kalou.

However, there are fears within the corridors of power at the Emirates that they will not be able to land any of the high-profile targets before Monday — a possibility that will anger supporters. A summer that promised so much has produced very little and manager Arsene Wenger is facing a make-or-break four days.
With the deadline fast approaching there is concern that Arsenal will run out of time to complete the Real deals, particularly with the Madrid club highly reluctant to sell before Gareth Bale’s move is ratified.
Wenger also remains interested in Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye and Valencia keeper Vicente Guaita.
His need to sign at least one forward heightened yesterday after Germany’s Lukas Podolski was ruled out for up to 10 weeks with a hamstring injury. Lukas Podolski was carried off in Tuesday’s 2-0 Champions League win over Fenerbahce with a hamstring strain.
The club’s medical team initially thought the former Cologne frontman would miss around five weeks. But Wenger has confirmed the injury is worse than first feared, with Podolski now set to miss more than two months.
There was better news on the injury front for Aaron Ramsey (groin) and Jack Wilshere (ankle), who have both been passed fit for Sunday’s clash against bitter rivals Spurs.
Likewise, Flamini is also in contention to make his second Arsenal debut against Andre Villas-Boas’s side this weekend after completing his move.
Flamini, who has been training with Arsenal since his release by AC Milan, and his representative Darren Dein held talks at the club’s London Colney HQ on Monday to finalise a contract.

Old new boy: Mathieu Flamini has re-signed for his former club

The French midfielder has signed a three-year deal worth around £40,000 a week.
Flamini’s versatility was key in Wenger’s decision to bring him back to the Emirates after he left on a free transfer in 2008. He can play anywhere across the midfield and also be used as a back-up full back.
Meanwhile, Real vice-president Fernando Fernandez Tapias has accused Tottenham of ‘dragging their feet’ over the Bale deal amid the embarrassing possibility that they will have to dismantle the stage they erected at the start of the week if Bale does not sign in the next 48 hours.
Real have a match on Sunday and the stage currently blocks the view of the pitch from the directors’ box.

'Dragging their feet': Spurs have been accused of delaying Gareth Bale's move to Real Madrid

Speaking ahead of the club’s friendly in Coruna, Tapias said: ‘He (Bale) is not here, because there are problems there (in London).
‘We thought Bale was going to be with us by now but for the moment he is still not in Madrid.’
Madrid wanted Bale to play a part in Sunday’s lunchtime kick-off against Athletic Bilbao but Tottenham’s insistence on making Real Madrid wait until their transfer business has been completed now endangers that possibility and the player may have to be presented on Monday or even after the international break.
Real agreed to allow Tottenham to complete their summer business before sealing the Bale deal but did not imagine this would push the conclusion back towards deadline day. If Bale does not make his home debut on Sunday, he will not play in front of Madrid fans for another three weeks.
If he signs at the start of next week he will leave for international duty immediately and will not be able to play his first game until September 14 away to Villarreal.

In action: Real Madrid had haboured hopes of unveiling Bale in the friendly against Real Madrid on Thursday night, but he may not even be at the club in time for the match against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday

He would not be able to train with the rest of his team-mates until September 11 and coach Carlo Ancelotti is concerned that having missed an entire pre-season with the club, and only played in one of Tottenham’s summer friendlies, it could be a month before the player is properly integrated into his side.
Madrid have suggested markers have been moved during the course of negotiations and Tapias said of the last-minute glitches: ‘We are going to wait and see what happens. Sometimes it is yes, sometimes it is no. They are dragging their feet.
‘I don’t doubt the value of the player but Real Madrid (already) has a great team.’

Delay: If Bale does not sign this before this weekend Carlo Ancelotti will have to wait until after the international break on September 11 to have Bale train with his team-mates
