He is suppose to be striker but plays more of support role on the wing. If you could turn back time would you gotten him if you were in rafa's shoes?

You could argue we could have done better with the money at the time, but there isn't really a signing you couldn't say that about.

Kuyt has been worth every penny we paid for him.

He's been well worth it. But seeing as we also were in for Berbatov, you could argue which one would have been the better signing.

Once every 5 games, he plays like he's worth 25m. The other 4 times, he plays like someone in the 1m to 5m bracket. So yeah, on average it probably works out to 10m.

he scores on an average of 8-10 goals a season(quite bad for a striker). Does anyone have any stats on him to evaluate his worth?

I seem to recall him winning us a Merseyside Derby.

I also remember him scoring a vital winner against Standard E Liver to get us into the Champions' League.

Anybody else feel free to add on.....

A thousand times, yes, Peacheo.

Fuck your agenda !

What are you on about!?

The equalizing goal against the Arse at the Emirates in the Champions League. Out of the goals Dirk has scored for us, that's the one I enjoyed the most.

He is still easily worth £10M!

A pint of whatever you're guzzling please, Roland.

Signed by Liverpool as a striker in the summer of 2006, Kuyt has carved out a new reputation as a hard-working wide man. A player who will never stop running until the last minute, Kuyt is the kind of performer who is respected by coaches, team-mates and fans as someone who is a true team player.

He began his professional career with FC Utrecht, so often home to future Holland internationals. A fine return of a goal every three games attracted the interest of Feyenoord who he joined in 2003. It was with the Rotterdam club that he really made a name for himself, plundering 71 goals in 101 matches which led to a move to Liverpool.

Kuyt was never able to live up to that goal-scoring return in the English game, which eventually led to him moving back to the midfield role. Although he may not be a natural winger, his boundless energy and hard work make him suited to the role of getting up and down the wing.

Strengths: Will work from the first minute until the last, is adept at holding up the ball and bringing others into the game.

Weaknesses: A lack of goals since moving to the top level of the game will always be highlighted. He is also not very strong in the air nor is he likely to produce the kind of skill that will beat two defenders and leave them for dead.

Career high: Kuyt was the 2005-06 Dutch Footballer of the Year in his final season with Feyenoord.

Career low: He scored in the 2007 Champions League final, but it would be a bittersweet moment as AC Milan beat Liverpool 2-1 in Athens.

Style: Hard-working, committed, a never-say-die player with no frills.

He has probably been good value compared to lot of players we have had over the years, he is very likeable, but really not that much better than average, and for long spells is just plain awful.
Is he still worth 10m? I doubt it very much, and in reality should not be a first choice player week in week out , if we do have any ambition that is

Exactly, regardless of how inadvertently it happened, given he was bought as a striker, he's been great and a real die hard.

Fuck agenda's because he's now hitting a slump.

Stupidest fucking thread EVER.

Scores important goals, in big games and probably has more goals and assists to his name than most wide men in the last few years in the Premiership.

He's not always great but putting him down as peripherally effective and average is doing him a massive injustice. He's proven his quality against top opposition time and time again.

He doesn't, or very rarely does play as a striker. FFS. If you're gonna start a thread to slate him, at least get the facts straight.

He has some great strengths but equally great weaknesses Mark. As I said I like the guy he works hard and has a big heart, but that is not enough. He was brought as a striker, he could not hack it up front and was found a berth on the right more by accident than design. Where as I say he has been no more than an average to slightly above average job. Occasionally he is very good, but more often than not he isn't.
If you tell me you would rather have Dirk playing wide than a recognised wide player I would be very surprised. His touch is fucking awful, as is his decision making more often than not and his ability to hit the opposition player with the ball from three yards has few peers. He might support but for the position he plays does not create enough
I keep saying this and I am perfectly serious, the time I know we have progressed is when Dirk and Lucas are on the bench more often than not. At the moment we have no viable alternative.
I think people let their hearts rule their heads and let sentiment come into it when it comes to Dirk , he is like the family golden Labrador , everyone loves him, he is very faithful, but he is a bit clumsy and bouncy.
As I say I respect his work ethic, and I respect other peoples views, but as a footballer , he has never ever really convinced me
