Quite a statement from the boss:

“This is my squad now. After all the transfers, this time it is my team. There are probably no players here any more I don’t want. There are no signings I didn’t want, we have not sold anyone I didn’t want to. And if you have seen them in training, there is a special quality that we did not have last year. Above all, you can see we have created a special atmosphere, not only in our team but with our fans.”
“New players have to bring in their quality. But it doesn’t mean they have to play all the time. Their quality can be brought on to the pitch—or it can push all the others onto the next level. If one player pushes 11 from last season on to the next level, imagine what that will mean? That is how it works.”
“I’m not afraid of making decisions—it’s part of the job. I am pretty sure I cannot make all the ones everyone likes, but I have to be convinced about it. At the end you are alone with the decision but it’s no problem to me. I am happy with my team now, and all I can say is we will be a challenger, we will fight for everything, for every cup and what’ll happen in the end we will see.
“Certainly at the moment we should not look for excuses and say things like ‘I need another year’ or things like that. We will try everything 100 percent and see what happens. We built this team only to be successful, not one where we say we will have to wait.”

Refreshing that there arent any excuses but we'll have to do our talking on the pitch aswell.

Finally someone who doesn't say this is a 5 year project or looking for excuses..

Saying it as it is..

I'm excited about this season.

Top 4 and a Trophy [emoji471].. And that will be a successful season.

I would love it if he led us to the Prem Title.. But that's probably too ambitious..

We still need a playmaker in Midfield. Unless coutinho bulks up and drops back and becomes Alonso Mr Consistent like..

A left back is a must.. Milner as Good as a Utility player he is, is not the answer

It's also good that he's acknowledged that he already had a good squad to work with. The squad at the start of the season should include:

Ming
Clyne
Moreno
Lovren
Gomez
Can
Milner
Henderson
Lallana
Coutinho
Firmino
Ings
Origi
Sturridge

Not quite the "disaster" squad that some folk think.

The last manager who mentioned 5 year plans was Houllier, Rafa came in and dismissed that sort of talk straight away and neither Dalglish or Rodgers came in with the same attitude or excuses either. The media have tried to throw the "5 year plan" thing around every managers neck since Houllier. Even under Rodgers, in his second season he said that it was a project in the sense that he wanted to be here a long time and to make us consistently successful, queue the idiot press labelling it a 5 year plan, something he said.

Now now. Rodgers definitely made excuses. Hodge Podge, well he's a dickhead, but even Rafa made excuses. But I guess he can be excused to a certain degree considering it only started once the dickhead Americans came in.
I remember feeling it was so refreshing when Dalglish came in with the 'we are Liverpool Football Club. No excuses' kind of talk.

They all made excuses when things didn't go well, show me a manager who doesn't. And Rafa's excuses didn't start with G&H, but whatever, that's history.

It's Klopp's first full season, it's a bit early to be saying he doesn't do this or that. Great attitude and seige mentality, I love it, but it's not really showing perspective to be comparing a 9 month reign and a big season come, with ended tenures and the advantage of hindsight.

I'd personally just take top 4

I think it's a testament to Klopp that he took a job that was a project rather than a club that had a huge chance of success due to pedigree, current standing and financial clout. That's why everyone said from the off that it was a match made in heaven.

I appreciate his honesty and confidence. I doubt that after saying all the players are his that he will try and backtrack from that like Rodgers did.
In my opinion Rodgers shouldn't have said that he had the final say and no one came into the club without his say so when the reality wasn't as cut and dried as that.
It appears that Klopp really does have more control regarding transfers than Rodgers did which I think can only help him as much as it sometimes hindered Rodgers not to have complete control.
This isn't a dig at Rodgers but he was too keen to give the impression he had full control initially only to distance himself from certain signings when they didn't work out for whatever reason.

Rodgers made out he'd inherited a terrible squad that was also 'wafer thin'. Let's not open all that up again but it's great that Klopp is just getting on with things.

It is great but then again this squad is far from wafer-thin. I do wish though that Klop would address the elephant in the room. We know he's been trying to bring in Chilwell but really I just don't see how he can retain Moreno as first choice LB. Maybe that's one of the many reasons he's the LFC manager and I'm not and in a couple of years we'll be saying what a brilliant piece of management it was to retain Moreno well all and sundry were slagging him off, or maybe Ragnar and Gomez are his actual first and second choice LBs !

Anyway, back to strength in depth :

GK : Karius & Mignolet
LB : Moreno, Gomez, Ragnar, Milner (what happened to the Juanma trial) ?
CBs : Matip, Ragnar, Sakho, Lovren and Gomez
RB : Clyne & Randall
CMs : Can, Milner, Henderson, Grujic, Stewart, Ejaria
Attacking MFs : Coutinho, Firmino, Lallana, Wijnaldum, Mane, Ojo
CF : Sturridge, Origi, Ings, Woodburn

It's easy to pick two strong XIs from those that could probably both do well in the PL.

Is it just me or does Klopp talk too much? I'm probably being harsh and he has to say answer questions from media but there's one too many Klopp soundbites that are edging on the cringe side of things at the min.

I can certainly live with it, he oozes positivness.. Nothing even remotely cringeworthy compared to the likes of Rodgers and Hodgson..

Not to defend Rodgers, but he did inherit a squad that was very thin on quality (bar a few outstanding players like Suarez and the aging Gerrard) and worst of all, seemed to lose all sense of identity after firing 3 managers in just over 3 seasons and several pretty shambolic transfer windows in a row.

I do think Klopp was already in a better position when he came in, there was no Suarez but far more quality in depth - he could look at this squad, the likes of Can, Coutinho, Firmino, Origi, Clyne and others and say: OK, it's not perfect yet, but there is enough talent to work with here.

I think it's a bit unfair calling Moreno " the elephant in the room".

Most elephants I've seen have more intelligence, positional awareness & technical skills with a ball than Moreno.

Granted.... Moreno might have the edge on pace...

The stars just aligned at the right time - the owners had wanted him all along, and he'd been interested in LFC for a while.

We still have to turn such an auspicious beginning into success on the field of course, but I'm very confident. We are Liverpool, and we've got Jürgen ****** Klopp.

Try giving it a fucking rest mate. Everyone else is on board with Klopp and totally respects what he's trying to do. Everytime he speaks, instead of talking up the positivity he's trying to express you HAVE to take it as an opportune moment to diss other managers. It's fucking boring.

I'm cynical, attitudes will change if we dont start winning

When Kenny came in there was a thread about his legendary putdown of stupid journalists, but by the end of his tenure folks were posting about how embarrassing his interviews were. Fans will praise any style of communication when we are on the up, and slag the exact same style on the way down

I thought he was just responding to Gary25's point that maybe Klopp talks too much. Don't see anything wrong with this post TBH. Anyway, like others have said, the most important talking will be on the pitch.

Well his initial response in the thread eluded to the same point:

Moreno out running an elephant; that'll be the day.😀

Was gonna say. Elephants can really shift once they get up to full speed. He'd probably be ahead for the first ten yards, but that'd be it.

As an aside, why do elephants paint their bo11ocks red? So they can hide in cherry trees.

To be fair Mark every flaming single manager we have had since Evans has said exactly that, Project, take time, 5 years etc etc..

I was making the point that he is being honest open without getting the excuses in already.. Most managers do that to protect themselves, he isn't looking to do that...

As for my other comment, don't be so quick to jump on my back.. I was responding to Gary25 comment.. Tbf.. Their was nothing wrong with it, simply because it's true

That being said it will be interesting to hear how Klopp comes across when we are not winning, though Ive seen enough last season to suggest he is not going to fill us full of waffle.. He certainly knows how to handle the media, that in its self bodes well..

The squad wasn't a "disaster" because of the players in it (but it is obvious that a few don't/didn't have the necessary quality). The squad was a "disaster" because for a number of years now it has been horribly unbalanced and there's been seemingly no real plan behind the recruitment.

What's been most refreshing this year is that - aside from left back - the problems that most fans agreed on have actually been addressed.

The squad wasn't really the major problem, Mark. I think most people felt it was the way we used what we already had-- that was the fundamental problem.
