Klopp and Squad Depth - Discuss

I guess one factor is that we struggle to get the best players in the first place and to keep them happy. Having quality on the bench and keeping them happy is another big ask.

Totally spot on.

Also, let's get top quality all over the pitch first, then get quality on the bench.

I’m so confused by this, are you calling me a fucking dumb cunt?

Well you did call me a fucking idiot first eh...

I personally find it truly weird, no not weird, obscene that people would hurry in to post on a fan forum distinctly negative bullshit about finals lost 2 days after we lost a final as though they somehow know more about football than the manager we are supposed to be supporting...

You do not know more about footy than the manager, if you did you would be a highly sort after world class footy manager.

He's lost 6 finals... So??? He must be shit I suppose eh? What IS your fucking point there??

You'd need to be a fucking idiot to ignore that eh... only an idiot can't see it!!

OOh but then maybe he might become personally concerned and realize now... what if he remembers before the next final??

Forgive for not tolerating reading this shit 2 days after a sickening defeat brought about by oodles of bad luck.

I find it hard to ignore that at the minute so yes, I did mean you in my previous post, I am sorry to confuse you.

We can skip round the point that in 2 and half seasons with a team that was a dreary 7th or 8th in the league he has made 3 finals and put firmly back into the champs league.

Yes, we need a trophy, it would certainly be nice, but personally, I think we are a lot fucking closer than we have ever been to that for a good number of years.

To suggest that somehow our manager is incapable due to some unfortunate looking finals record is to skip over the truth completely and type in and share on the internet an excessively fucking idiotic point given at a time when, really, it is quite acceptable to hold your glorious insight away from those who think it is just pure bollox.

I am a fan and I support the team, maybe in our current world in the millennial zeitgeist I should feel "entitled" to trophies, I'm not a millennial though, I'd prefer to acknowledge what until the last half of the last game was a truly boss season brought about partially by a good fucking manager.

At the start of the season if someone said we'd get 4th and reach the CL, I would taken it not least because I would have got great odds at the bookies.

Oh, ok, cheers, was just checking.

Losing 6 finals on the bounce IS a bit shit.

Ok - just spent the evening with my brother in-laws - most of us are LFC supporters and it was like a funeral at times this evening discussing the game. I am depressed about the whole thing - a big missed opportunity. Put aside Karius blunders and the key moment is Salah going off and in his place comes Lallana. This is the moment where it really went wrong.

You can argue Klopp had no one on the bench - but really ? - this is all down to him. He loaned out Sturridge, Origi, and did not include Woodburn as a sub in the final. So in truth there was no like for like substitution available other than to try out Solanke who is a forward player but still he did not go for him. Don't give a fuck now - this was his mistake - we have played 4-3-3 nearly all season, and by bringing on an unfit Lallana he fucked up massively - the guy made absolutely no difference to our play. His obsession with Lallana is the same type of shit we had with Ged, and Rafa regarding some favorite player over use of proper logic in crucial games. My question is - why have these players in the squad if you are never going to use them ? why Klopp ? what's the fucking point.

Many of you on here argue we need world class this and that on the bench but the truth is that will NEVER work and it does not work for any team. The fact that Bale was on the bench in that game was more to do with his indifferent form this season and injury record with possible transfer to another club - Madrid always treat any of their star players like this when they want to hint - "you should move on now". No world class player is going to be happy sitting on the bench be it Man City/United/Arsenal/Chelsea/Barca/R.Madrid. Best talent for the bench are those that would be world class but for injuries and other issues. But the main issue for us is that Klopp likes to have this light squad thing - which is good but useless if you have replacements for each position which you are NOT willing to use. To me it does not make sense and before you say Woodburn/Solanke don't have experience enough - so fucking what ? - we threw TAA in against Manchester United last season so what's the fucking big deal and Woodburn has played in internationals too.

After watching the after match press conference with Klopp - it feels like the media have a complete luv-in with him. In fact there was no mention of another cup final loss (6 in a row) - I think they will all start wanting for him to win and the whole world can celebrate then. But as a club it is becoming embarrassing for us we have lost like 5 of the last 6 finals we have been in. This is like not bad but utter shit. Many of the players in our team have now lost in three cup finals - that is a massive confidence scar to take - I am starting to think that some are just pure bad luck - especially the midfielders. Can going is a start, but I think we should get rid of Lallana too. Give Grujic a chance - start fresh, and get a strong mother-fucker in the team to compete for the ball when the opposition try and overrun us. That said - despite all the bravado and confidence that Klopp has - I don't believe for one moment he is not scarred by yet another cup final defeat. Surely it must be playing on his mind ?

I’ve not posted on here for years, but just come in to have a look and I’m hit with this crock of shit. You take after your username, now please fuck off you bad melt. It’s Klopps fault we got to the final. Would you prefer we get knocked out earlier? Self entitled Prick.

Hi ... yes Klopp got us to the final...we luv that. But would it hurt just to win a final ?

Dunno..by your own admission you have not been on here for a while....so you probably like losing cup finals.

Actually it is his fault we lost. You need to accept that now. Also he himself has said .. he is responsible for the losses...so you see Klopp agrees with me.

Now why dont you fuck off.

MORON

I read this thread and find myself half agreeing with everyone even though you've all picked an opposite side.

We've got 11 less players than when Klopp joined, and that was too much of a gamble...

BUT... Really... Was that what caused us to lose? It was a dirty Spanish twat and a stupid shite German goalie who played the worst game he'll ever play in his life. If he'd have had a half decent game we'd have won. You can't account for that kind of shit. It just happens. And I'd be the first to give Karius a cuddle, we've all fucked up now and again... thankfully when I do it a billion people aren't usually watching.

I think he was saying it to me but looking at you.

I wasn't macca no... I think I may have been riled by morons moronocity ( a new word but it works so well) followed by jpg ( i think it was jpg or it might be lpg.. liquid petroleum gas?) calling me a fucking idiot for not agreeing that our manager is jinxed or shit in finals.

I just thought the debate was really shite and unrequired bullshit we lost the final cos they injured or best player and then our goaly was a total disaster... that's about it really... anything else is bullshit... absolute bullshit and subsequent anger from me after that...

I'm sorry about calling anyone a dumb cunt...

I just thought people were being dumb cunts that's all...

Got a teensy bit angry... apologies...

nothing to see here... move on...

Molbystwin always... leaves so many things... unsaid... hard to know...what’s missing... pissy monkey... at left back...for God’s sake...mother-in-law...Lovren...do you want this salad or not...

I really like using the "..." Gene.

It becomes more like chatting than writing per se and when one should be working not reading nonsense online and dodging work so the ellipsis just feels better, I feel less guilty of work dodging as if I am chatting rather than typing.

Now, however, I do feel as though I am bad at typing.

I'm sorry Gene, I shall use the ellipsis less in future.

🙁

Dear Gkmacca and jpg,

I am sorry if I intimated you were dumb cunts, I do not know you both nor will I likely ever do so, and as such an insult is unrequired and undeserved but also pretty much meaningless, forgive me I was in a very bad mood while reading.

Moron, you made me rather angry with a post which had a tone and pretext I fundamentally disagree with, I apportion blame to you.

Final apology sent.

Back to work 🙁

No bother at all mate, it’s an internet forum, not that serious.

For clarity, my comment about “fucking idiots” wasn’t actually aimed at you, it was a generalisation that just happened to come after your post. Apologies.

I think Klopp deserves a decent share of the blame for the lack of depth. It has alway seemed to me that he's a bit of a perfectionist in the market and perhaps too willing to wait for the ideal player.

See Keita and Van Dijk. Obviously that approach also has its very strong upside, so it's not at all clear that it's wrong.

I also tend to think he's almost too loyal to his players. The length of time the Gk situation has dragged on is almost comical at this point. That should have been sorted once and for all last summer.

But again, his loyalty no doubt is reciprocated, and so it's by no means clear that it's not a price worth paying.

You win some you lose some, pretty much. You're never going to find out about players unless you indulge in them a bit, even if the early signs aren't that encouraging.

We've seen enough now though, of certain players.

People talk about the GK situation not being resolved by Klopp in 3 years.. I don't get it. He's actually tried to with Loris Karius! He's just got it wrong (evidently).

I also wonder about the GK coaching. Have we made a change there in recent years? If not, we need to at least try that.

Indeed he does deserve some blame for the lack of squad depth but then again perhaps blame isn't the right word to use. In as much as It feels odd "blaming" a manager for not winning the CL or indeed the premiership, I think even with his loyalty we are getting closer and heading in the right direction.

But yes it is their responsibility.

I quite like the fact he is loyal to his players, a boss like that must be appealing to most workers I'm sure, we don't know the fella though do we, I have a little suspicion he is quite capable of being nasty.

Fergie very rarely talked down his players did he, that's loyalty also, I think it's probably a good trait.

And although we were rather a threadbare squad wise it is maybe not disastrous having a manager who will not settle for just any old player when shopping or at least the team dynamic looks really healthy at the minute and we've got cash to go out and attract new players this summer.

I hope this time around with a bigger wad of cash and with us being a more appealing CL destination for possible recruits that he can buy us a better goaly.

I think the lack of depth is also due to us looking 40% on the coming 3 months and 60% on the coming 3 years. Can we manage With what we got for 3 months if there are better players waiting. I know we are wealthy and we have purchase power at the moment, but we also need to think value creating, long term solutions and other factors for every guy we bring in. We should alway handle injuries, and luckily for us we didn't have more cup games in the run in, but looking at an injury to any of the front 3 we need exceptional high quality to replace any of them. And I am not sure the quality to replace Coutinho was available in the January window. In the summer a lot of People said that there is many CD's out there, and not only one that is better than what we got. But we awaited our guy, and that will be important for us in the long term.

Could be wrong but I wouldn't be that surprised if we could have got Fekir in January.

It's only a fairly minor irritation though.
