Kenwyne Jones loan deal done?

Status
Not open for further replies.
All of the North-East reporters for the broadsheets say he could be prized away for 12M.

Spurs offered 16M last summer and got knocked back. They then went and got Crouch.

“I think it’s massively disrespectful to even suggest we would consider sending Kenwyne out on loan," Steve Bruce said. "You don’t loan out a player of his calibre. I don’t know where these ridiculous stories come from but there’s no way I’ll be loaning Kenwyne Jones to anyone.â€

Jones for 12M reads like a major panic buy.

For the first time, our being broke offers a little hope about a transfer because if we do end up getting him, I hope it's not for that price.

Doubt it will be another Barrygate. Longest Transfer Saga Ever.
Well it wont't be due to the limited life of the window, but if it was possible we would.
Why can't we ever go for players clubs are actually willing to sell.
It was to fucking easy to go for Van Nistelrooy wasn't it

Possibilities and Options:

Listed:
1) Ruud
2) Jones
3) Chamakh
4) Serbian
5) Unknowns

Ruud, too simple a transfer expensive, next
Jones complicated, ah ha, lets pursue that, that is the Liverpool way, nothing comes easy dead
Cham... standby and red herring?
Serbian? just in case all of the above falls through
Unknown is the joker in the pack, free and cannot score but he runs like mad and gives us possibilities because he can play anywhere except in goal.

Conclusion: Unknown signed!

Updated:

Serbian and unknown still standing...

Bonkers, eh? Has Rafa actually bought this player for 12m?

Edited. :🙂

how on earth can a club like liverpool not afford a striker in such a time of need?.
We're not the Liverpool of old Skully, financial wise. That said, if we were the Liverpool of old we probably wouldn't be in this boat now.

All the grace of a hippo, the first touch of a spaz in clogs. I can't wait.

That said, he'll probably do well.

One of these lottery signings has to work out eventually, I guess.

The report in the Guardian today suggested Rafa had gone cold on this deal because he saw Jones only as a stopgap so didn't want to sign him permanently.

Kenwyne Jones isn't even Sunderland's best striker. He cost them 6mil and has just signed a bumper contract (I think). So, how much will he cost and how much will he want?
Can't get excited. Suppose Cheggers can't be boozers tho.
But he can, and is a coke head to boot ........................... allegedly

And I was so looking forward to us signing him and getting ever so midly enthused about him playing for us.

I was going to make a post about this. I know needs must and we need a stopgap, but we're all quick off the mark to berate Rafa for signing stop gaps and for wasting money, so there's no way we should be signing someone like Jones. Ideally we'd make a loan signing or two, keeping the money for the Summer to put towards 'real' quality. There's no point punting £12m on someone now who's likely to be moved on sooner rather than later and at the risk of that player moving on for a lower fee.

It's pointless and symptomatic of our failings under Rafa.

And if we're seriously interested in Chamakh or whatever his name is, why not come to an agreement with his club to bring him in now? Surely it's in the best interests of all concerned if our interest is that strong?

That's all very well Mark, but where are these people?
Time is pressing now and a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
As for is he worth £12m, well no, but Babel is not worth the similar amount Birmingham want to pay.
Look at the bigger picture, would you do a straight swap , Jones for Babel.....yes.
As for Rafa getting cool on him as he wants something better in the long term, Jones is better than anything else we have in reserve, and we should have at least three decent strikers on the books. We should get Jones now and still be looking at a top striker in the summer.

regards

Fair enough, but what if the money isn't there in the Summer? I know we need a striker now, and I'm pretty sure we could find a better one than Jones for £12m. The quoted fee, regardless of us possibly selling Babel for more than he's worth, is a huge chunk of our regular budget.

If the Summer and this transfer window are anything to go by, we have to sell to buy. If that's the case the £10m from Babel (or whatever we get) is sorely needed towards quality.

Needs must I know, and we need someone, I understand that and I'm not saying save the money and buy no one, but there are alternatives surely? Like what I've just said about Chamakh.

I suppose we have a choice, write this season off, and start tooling up for the summer, or try and make a fight of fourth spot.
We have no chance of fourth spot without bringing in a striker, we have an outside chance if we do, and they earn us a few points that we would not have had without them.
If there is no appropriate loan signing around what do we do?
If we get Kenwyne Jones and he helps us reach a CL place then it has been self funding.

The problem lies with the view that we could perhaps get 4th *without* spending.

Yikes.

Exactly - many of us seem to believe that we can somehow achieve 4th place on the basis of our reputation as a great club. The fact is that the combination of injury problems and lack of depth in the squad means that most Premier League teams are better than us at the moment. Fact!

Useless lumbering cunt. No thanks.

Who then Paddy?

I don't know to be honest, but there is better for cheaper.
But then again anyone that plays well against Liverpool under Benitez always seems to be a target eventually.

Is Kenwyne Jones a better option than, Dirk, Babel, or Ngog Paddy?

Would you do a straight swap with Sunderland Babel for Jones?

Considering how shit our wing play is at the moment, no I wouldnt do a straight swap. I want somebody more direct. A bit of pace about them. Long ball overload is the last thing we need. Nemeth would be a good option even. Even take a risk on fucking Beckford.

What is your opinion on Maxi, is he not a tricky winger, and could Riera not come into the equation?
Your ideal way out of this would be Babel up front?
Paddy I know you don't believe that for a minute, and you are just trying to get out of teh corner I m very cleverly pushing you into 😉

I side with Mark, TBH.

I'd sooner go after the cheaper/freebie options because I don't believe they're necessarily weaker. It's not Jones or bust, although time is quickly running out. If we can pick up Chamach for £2-3M now then it would almost certainly be worth it and would have less of an impact on our summer transfer budget. If we can't work something out, then, yeah, we'll have to move quickly for Jones.

The priority has to be selling Babel, though. With him not leaving, all of this seems pointless.
