Kenwyne Jones loan deal done?

Jones latest: "No chance" of Liverpool

Sunderland have dismissed claims that striker Kenwyne Jones is set to sign for Liverpool on loan.
It was today reported that the 25-year-old Trinidad and Tobago international was due at Anfield for a medical as under-fire Reds boss Rafael Benitez seeks a temporary replacement for the injured Fernando Torres.

However, sources at Sunderland have told Press Association Sport there is "not a chance" of that happening after weeks of speculation over the former Southampton frontman's future.

Both manager Steve Bruce and chairman Niall Quinn have in recent days stated Sunderland's intention to hang on to the man former boss Roy Keane signed for £6million in August 2007.

However, it is believed the Black Cats might be prepared to consider an offer for Jones, but only at the right price. Birmingham made an enquiry earlier in the transfer window which has gone no further.

Jones once again partnered Sunderland's leading scorer Darren Bent in Saturday's 7-2 Barclays Premier League drubbing at Chelsea.

Hours earlier, a Liverpool side shorn of key men Torres, Steven Gerrard and Yossi Benayoun through injury had allowed a 1-0 lead to slip at Stoke when Robert Huth snatched a point with a last-gasp equaliser at the Britannia Stadium.

Dirk Kuyt headed against a post deep into stoppage-time when he might have done better to leave Benitez bemoaning the absence of compatriot Torres, who is expected to be sidelined for up to six weeks.

Reality's shit.

That's that then.

Lock thread.

According to the Liverpool Echo the deal is on. Apperantly we've been in talks all weekend, and we're close to getting a deal done.

Conflicting reports..

What does he say Skully? I can't open the link at work, strangely enough.

basically - the echo 'understands' that we're in advanced negotiations, and it's nailed on that he's coming on loan.

Normally they're on the money.

So there is a strong chance we're getting Jones?

Well, I'll be pretty happy with that.

My worry with Kenwyne Jones coming is that he's a player who's score a lot of headed goals and relies on crosses. We're narrow as fuck at the moment and don't have width.

Who says he's going to score goals Sunny? He's going to hold up play for us, lay off a few balls and see the rest of the team miss chances.

He doesn't score a lot of *any* type of goals.

A younger Heskey, rather than a younger Drogba - big, quite fast, powerful, hard to motivate, poor goals record, has one game where he is labelled 'unplayable' and then three were he just doesn't play

Has not progressed in his time in the Premiership at all.

Huge gamble

Better than anyone else we've got though

He is better than Heskey, although i might be slightly biased against Heskey

Does he have a cauliflower arse like Heskey ?

[/quote]

He has cauliflower hair.

Having said that, he's still a better option to what we have now. Hopefully he scores a few important goals for us.

What about bringing Nemeth back as an option ? Couldn't play up front on his own but would increase our options

I dont think he's got a future with us Sunny, not with Rafa in charge. Why oh why didnt we keep him here, knowing that we only have Torres and N'gog as our strikers? I think Rafa fucked up on that by believing in Voronin.

We could do with bringing him back and signing Jones,

That's my thinking

Has Nemeth received the loan kiss of death? Has a player ever gone on loan to come back into the first team?

Le Tallec
Anderson
Hamaill
Hobbs

I'm sure there is a lot more.

Jones would be fine on loan until end of this godawful season. Gives us a different option anyway and someone for N'Gog to play beside and feed off perhaps because it seems to me he'd be much better as one of two rather than a lone striker ( NGog that is)

In fairness to Rafa I reckon he'd stopped believing in Voronin when he farmed him out to Hertha Berlin. My guess is Voronin came back purely and simply because we couldn't afford to sign anyone else in that position and Rafa didn't think (rightly or wrongly) our younger players were ready yet.

The great Andriy Vornin was the only player to go out on loan and play for liverpool again under Benitez

Did Ayala go on loan for a while too?
