The three of them will go. I suppose then we're still a bit overstocked, but if we buy another striker then it's not too bad. Competition is good, we just see the best players come to the fore and the team automatically improve, with quality in reserve. That's what we all want, right?

I want us to make the most of our relatively meagre resources. If Firmino ends up competing with Coutinho, Lallana, and Markovic, or is pushed out wide where he's less effective, then we clearly haven't done that.

This is a good point, it makes me wonder if Markovic is being moved on.

Fair enough, but I didn't think Lallana or Markovic were particularly good last season. Of course we want to get the most of our investment, but I'd be equally cautious about entering the season thinking we could rely on both of them pushing on, I don't think either of them have the necessary consistency, at least yet in Markovic's case.

I'm looking at it this way, we're pretty much resigned to entering the season without Sturridge, that frees up one of the attacking midfielders to be used in the front three, which I think would be Firmino anyway. So that gives us Firmino with Ibe, Origi and Ings as options for the most part, for three positions. There's already murmurs about Markovic and whether he might be loaned out or allowed to go back to Portugal. So there's a long way to go in the Summer yet.

Markovic wont be sold.

He's got time on his side to improve, but he doesn't really striker me consistent or reliable enough yet, he's got the occasional moment of brilliance in him, but the rest of the time he's fairly mediocre and his passing and ability to take a man on borders on comical, his "kick and run" style saw him taken out of games eventually, because it wasn't very subtle or productive.

Doesn't matter whether those positions are perfectly stocked.

The point is how well covered they are compared to other positions. And the answer there is surely 'very well'.

Of course yeah, if we're still having this conversation entering the season without buying a right back and some reinforcement(s) through the middle of the defensive areas, then we've fucked up, again. The real pressing concern is right back, the rest of the defense needs work on the training ground rather than the transfer market, hopefully Ilori steps up too.

IMO, Markovic's chance of success in this league is to become an advanced CM. I don't see him being a wing-forward, he doesn't have the short-bursted explosiveness or dribbling ability.

He has very good technique, is a smart passer, and isn't afraid to put in a shift at all (right now his major problem is getting shrugged off the ball). These seem to me qualities that'll shine in an advanced CM spot. He can press, pass and go on runs much more effectively when he's playing deeper.

Could do with a DM really. Maybe a centre back too?

Don't compound that mess we have at the back with another CB please. Skrtel, Sakho, Lovren, Kolo and Ilori. Unless that new one is dead cert to be a Hyppia or Terry, one more would just give everyone a headache.

With Ings, Origi and Firmino signed, you're expecting another striker? I think that this may be it for recruiting in the forward department.

We still need a DM and RB.

I think of Firmino as a like-for-like replacement for Sterling. Someone who can play AM, winger or a "floating" striker in a fluid system. If we're losing Sterling, Borini, Balotelli and Lambert in this window, then we need to bring in one more attacker in addition to the 3 we've got.

Deadwank, did you just post soemthing slightly optimistic? HOLY.FUCKING.SHIT

we won't sign them though.

firmino is our usual 'just do enough' but we never then go on to make a real statement. we'll sell sterling for more money and then fill the squad with more shite probably.

Does anyone seriously believe Skrtel is a top class centre half?

Who cares how many others we have if none of them are good enough? We need to go into this season with a good defence, one way or another.

Usually we're fucking about still hoping for a superstar to come in and rescue us in August. If we sign a few more soonish and announce we're pretty much done with incomings I'll be suitably impressed.

It'd be great to have a big chunk of the summer without transfer nonsense and it'd be nice to have the whole squad together for the start of pre-season.

If we dump Mario I might start believing.

Well done so far. Fantastic to see Enrique, Gerrard and Johnson etc parked as well. Think that will help us a lot!

Wonder if ayre is having a go because he's worried about his job

Maybe he got a good bollocking

If we add Clyne, which it looks likely we will do...

Then we've got 3 players in Milner, Firmino, and Clyne that walk into the side every week and improve us straight away. These are none of your Luis Alberto's, these are players that make us better from day one.

That's swell.

It's like a fucking dream. We really needed this as a fan base. Everyone reasonable should be back on side now.

I like this way of doing things, it gives those we need rid of plenty of time to pack their pink trousers and diamond earrings so they can fuck off back to Italy
