• Defender criticises manager after being left out in pre-season

Liverpool’s forgotten left-back José Enrique has vowed to stay at the club and fight for a starting place despite claiming to have been “alienated” by his manager Brendan Rodgers.

The 29-year-old Spaniard, who is entering the final year of his contract at Anfield, was left out of the club’s pre-season preparations along with Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini.

Enrique, who lost his place in the matchday squad to the teenager Joe Gomez for Liverpool’s win against Stoke City in their season opener, has been linked with a move to West Bromwich Albion.

But the Spaniard told Marca that Liverpool’s lack of experienced options at left-back could see him return to first-team action in the coming months.

“I’m in a difficult position,” Enrique said. “The club have alienated Balotelli, Borini and me. I have a year left on my contract and I imagine the club will want to sell, but I still want to stay and fight as I always have. I will not give up. I know from experience that football changes from day to night.”

Enrique underwent surgery for a serious knee injury in 2013 and has failed to recapture his best form for the club ever since. He has made 76 Premier League appearances since joining from Newcastle United in 2011.
“I feel fine after two years with knee discomfort,” he said. “Plus in the squad here we only have one pure left-back [Alberto Moreno] and I know that if I stay I’ll play. I want to prove that some are wrong.”

Enrique said moving away from Anfield would be a step down in his career. “What I think is that I will not play in a team better than this,” he said. “Liverpool are a match for Manchester United. I had a very good option to return to Spain, but [it] is complicated because the economy is very different from what exists here. The only teams that can deal with what is paid in England are Real Madrid and Barcelona, so I would love to stay here until my legs stop me.”

Translation, "I'm just whinging and moaning to whinge and moan. I like making a lot of money but don't like accepting the reality that I am not as good at my job as others at the club."

Christ, he doesn't even try to hide it, can't blame him I suppose.

What he doesn't realize is that he's going to end up fucking up his next deal as free agent next summer, and long term likely end up out of pocket.

By staying (and earning more for a year ) he'll end up negotiating next summer having not played competitive football for two years solid. Contrast that with playing a season (probably on loan ) for a West Brom or West Ham etc and then negotiating a deal next summer having proven he can still do a good job in the premiership.

What a dim Twat he is.

And in even worse news, Borini might be leaving...on a loan deal...again.

Sunderland set sights on signing Fabio Borini and Adnan Januzaj on loan

• Liverpool striker Borini scored 10 goals for club in 2013-14 season
• Manchester United’s Januzaj could be available if club sign Pedro

Dick Advocaat hopes to see his Sunderland squad bolstered by two season-long loan deals for Manchester United’s Adnan Januzaj and Liverpool’s Fabio Borini. Both are attacking midfielders or deep-lying forwards and will be ideally suited to wide roles in Advocaat’s preferred front three.

While the deal for Januzaj – a 20-year-old Belgium international who appears to have lost his way a little after a bright start to life at Old Trafford – is expected to go through once Pedro completes his long-mooted move from Barcelona to United – the Borini deal comes as more of a surprise.

Unwanted at Liverpool, the Italian enjoyed a successful loan stint at the Stadium of Light in 2013-14, scoring 10 goals in 40 appearances. However, the 24-year-old refused to countenance a permanent £14m transfer to Wearside last summer and it was thought Sunderland had lost interest in a player who has latterly been discussing a potential return to Italy.

Things apparently changed on Wednesday when Adam Johnson suffered a serious shoulder injury likely to keep the winger on the sidelines for a minimum of two months. With Brendan Rodgers desperate to offload Borini it seems he could shortly be heading back to the north-east after all.

In contrast Advocaat has been discussing the move for Januzaj with his Old Trafford compatriot Louis van Gaal for some time and, providing Pedro is secured, the loan appears attractive to all parties.

Quite. It's the same mistake Borini made, and for the same shortsighted reason.

According to the Evening Standard, Borinis wage demands makes a move back to Italy difficult.
He's on 55k a week. Appaz wanted 85k when QPR tried to sign him last season.

The Enrique hate is something I don't get at all.

He's been fairly professional in his time here, and hasn't really been a terrible player. Of the long list of woeful left-backs we've had over the last decades, he's surely one of the better ones alongside Riise and Aurelio.

In an injury scenario, I'd probably rather have him than Moreno. He's a reasonably strong one-on-one defender, and while he lacks intelligence going forward, there was a period where he was combining quite effectively down that left flank with Suarez and Coutinho.

I think he hasn't ruled out a loan - just resisting a move back to Spain on a permanent or possibly a permanent to another English club with lower pay (re: all the pay talk). If you send him on loan to Crystal Palace for his final season and he still gets the same pay (regardless who pays), then I think he'll probably work out that it's what's best for him, now and longer term.

Fucking Enrique - useless, useless waste of space.

Take the hint and fuck off with your ping pong, gay selfies and shit crosses you useless fuck.

I agree.
There was no need to freeze him out IMO.

The problem with Enrique was never about his attitude but rather the decreasing levels of performance since he signed for us. Injuries may have played a part in that but I'd rather have Moreno in than him and I can't stand Moreno.

I agree. I wonder what signals it sends to other players when you risk being frozen out only because you want to stay. Will you risk moving here when you know that even if you behave then you can suddenly be frozen out. Some players will support the player(s) and some don't. It creates more problems. If you freeze some players out then you must have a very good reason, a reason that the players support.

I don't agree with any player being frozen out as it's unnecessary in my book but i'm sure it happens at almost every club. I can't see it being a deterrent for other players joining us but it might cost us some bargaining power in a potential sale.

... Mata wanted to stay at Chelsea for example, RvP at Manure etc ... That should answer your question.

It happens but Balotelli was by the biggest name the club bought in last year and the way Brendan treated him was child like .

Fighting petulance with petulance seems to be Rodgers' weapon of choice

No matter what you think of the players individually, it's fucking stupid business-wise.

They aren't fine wines, getting more valuable with age. They're more an unused car, sat on the drive costing fucking zillions and depreciating daily.

So it's alright for players in general to go on strike, ring in sick to training when they're fine, do half arsed training, refuse to sit on the bench when chosen as sub, take drugs, not board flights, force moves when they're under contract, do unauthorised interviews in the press etc etc, but the club and rodgers are out of order for telling not needed players to train away from the first team? And they still get to pick up their 40-80k a week? Terrible, how will they survive the poor little poppets.

If you invest that much in an asset without doing your homework or then looking after it, it tends to cost you a load of money. Obviously moreso in football because of the amount of money floating around and coz pretty much everyone involved in the game, from the owners to the managers to the players are massive fucking shithammers who haven't got a fucking clue about anything you can't pick up from an inspirational poster or kanye lyrics.

Wonder how much the transfer committee uses Borini as an example of a fuck up Rodgers has bought to the club at his own choice.

About as much as Rodgers uses Balotelli as an example of a fuck up the transfer committee brought to the club as their own choice.
