Joe Cole - on his way?

Interesting bit about Cole that I came across in one of the forums:

There is an interesting article about Peter Brabrook in this month’s Hammers News. For those younger supporters, Brabrook was one of our best players in the 1960s.

In recent years, Brabrook has had serious problems with his knees. This is a common problem for footballers when they reach later life (I know because I have the same problem myself). He visited the hospital and was told he needed to have “knee replacement surgery”. As people will know there is a long waiting list for this treatment on the NHS. Footballers in the 1960s were not paid well and Brabrook could not afford to go private yet he was now finding it difficult to get around (he works as a part-time scout for the Hammers). His daughter contacted the PFA to ask if they could help. Shortly afterwards Joe Cole phoned Brabrook. He had been told by the PFA about his problem and insisted that he should be allowed to pay for the cost of the operation. The operation was a success and Brabrook is now back on his feet. As Brabrook told the Hammers News: “You hear lots of negative stories about the way young footballers spend their money, but what Joe did for me was incredible.”

I have nothing bad to say about Joe Cole as a person. He was a good player in his prime; unfortunately we, being the incompetent suckers we are, gave him a huge contract just as his performance was getting into a steep decline. This is like Moneyball in reverse.

But in no way any of this was Joe Cole's fault. I'm sure he tried his best, but he is simply not the same player he once was.

Yup, nothing against Joe Cole as a person. Just a horrible horrible signing in terms of football.

it turned out bad for us, but at the time people were screaming about this great signing (pretty much same situation as for Sahin). People were angry when it seemed we were loosing out on him, as we should pay up what he demanded!

Liverpool Football Club have confirmed Joe Cole has joined West Ham United on a free transfer.

The midfielder leaves Anfield after a two-and-a-half-year spell with the Reds following his transfer from Chelsea in July 2010.

Cole made a total of 42 appearances for Liverpool, scoring five goals - the last of which came against his new employers during a 3-2 win over the Hammers at Upton Park in December.

Everybody at LFC would like to wish Joe all the best for the future.

At least it's over now.

I dread to think what proportion of his wages were still paying

Fucking "free" transfers - upfront cost of a transfer gets dropped so agent negotiates bigger wage and teams agree to this I flayed position only to be bitten more in the ass when no other team is prepared to match it.

I don't consider myself much of a "deal maker" but really... what sort of useless cunt is in charge of this shit.

Have none of these cunts ever watched Glengarry Glenross?

Good luck to Cole - not his fault LFC got taken to the cleaners over his contract - he did nothing wrong, no bitching and moaning. Not a cunt.

But what a fucking terrible transfer.

We should have just planted a fat bag of coke in his wash bag and sacked him for gross misconduct.
It would have been cheaper to hire a hitman to off the mongy gerbil faced cockernee twat.

Did this transfer beat Robbie Keane's disaster?

Or Aqualani?

Keane wasn't anywhere near as big a disaster, we got most of the money back for him, only had to pay him for a few months, and he scored a few goals.

Aquilani is close though.

Carroll is close too. Carroll cost 35m and was on rumoured 75k a week for 18 months and 40k for the last 6 months.
Cole cost nothing but was on about 110k a week for 42 months
Aquilani cost 17m and was on about 100k for 24months combined.
They are all fucking horrific.

Good to see some figures for comparison, otherwise we will debate in the dark.

Carroll will hopefully never be beaten (by us)

I can't believe anyone on here wishes him all the best. Drained millions out of the club, was NEVER fit, sat on his fat arse on the fags. A terrible cockney idiot that I wish we had never signed. All this 'seems like a decent fella' bullshit can get to fuck. Fuck him. A good day today.

Even if these figures are half right what a disgraceful and depressing bunch of signings. Fuck me.

Can't blame him for the money end of things. If you were offered the deal he got, you'd take it too. Plus how was he to know how things were going to work out?

I guess I'm just glad he's gone. Never wanted him here in the first place. Always disliked him and nothing he did here changed my view. Anyway, onward and upward.
