The idea of Joe Cole is way better'n the actual Joe Cole.
In theory he's a diminutive footballing genius who can control the tempo of a game and create a chance out of nothing (this theory is normally the one espoused when he is injured or not playing in the team)
But in practice he's a massive headed slightly downsy looking barrell chested cockerney cheeky chappie who more often than not does nothing of any note on the football pitch and rarely scores or creates anything but occassionally beats a man with a trick before wiping his massive head with his sweatband and being substituted on 60 mins.

And i still stand by it.

So he was on 120k a week at Chelsea, Tottenham offered him more and he came here for less.

The thing with the cole signing was that he had shown great ability during his career previous to his arrival and we were reportedly in competition with other big clubs for his signature...... that made it at least a cautious double yes from most fans....

Oh come on now people, speaking as the smug cunt in this case, I don't take it so seriously that people like players I don't like, and they don't pan out. This was one I was seriously annoyed about at the time, and it did rather stick in my craw when we went ahead with it but the only people who should be upset about getting it wrong about a player are the people that signed him. And in this particular case, I'm sure even they knew it wasn't ideal, it was mostly dictated by our shit financial situation, during a time where a whole mess of short term shit decisions were made that carried more risk than necessary.

I withheld the names to protect the innocent, but as mark says, we all get them wrong. I watched Mark Gonzales play in la liga for several months while licking his taint on here, if I recall correctly.
