Hahaha. What a thread.
Mascherano can sod off. He obviously wants to go to Barca but its tough luck. We rescued him from oblivion and if he is that bloody good, then its about time he showed it. I honestly think that Lucas could do a half decent job in the 'Mascherano role' provided that you stick someone next to him who can pass the ball i.e. Aquilani. Obviously it wouldnt be ideal, but I wouldnt shed any tears if he fucked off.

He was everywhere today and played brilliantly, as he usually does against the bigger teams.

Quite. Like the song said, you don't know what you've got till it's gone. We're finding that out the hard way with Alonso and, if we do lose Mascher, he'll be mightily missed in games like this.

Hmmm. Alonso and Masher are two very good players, but we've only missed Xabi because we bought an injured replacement and Lucas is rubbish.
I would imagibe that we can also find a decent Masher replacement, although we missed our chance when Diarra went to Portsmouth

Agree about Diarrhoea, whom I always rated - rather too full of himself for my liking as a young player, but he could back that up.
I also agree we can find a decent Mascher replacement (provided the money from the deal is made available and not siphoned off into some bank's coffers) but not on a like-for-like basis. Mascher's attacking play is still limited, but there's no-one out there who plays his specific DM junkyard dog role so well. Whoever else comes in, others will have to share the defensive slog more than they do with Mascher around to take care of business. It'll mean changing the whole balance of the side and I'm a little nervous about our prospects of doing so successfully.

Mascherano is a great battler and leader and will be missed when he moves on. Shame he's had his head turned by Barca and his concentration seemed to waver for a while there with Argentina's recent struggles.
