These comments have been reported more hysterically in a few other places as Mascherano refusing to sign a contract, which isn't really how it looks. But the last couple of lines aren't too promising.

There are fears at Anfield that Javier Mascherano is on the verge of quitting Liverpool after the Argentina captain admitted he has no interest in a new contract.
Barcelona are desperate to sign Mascherano, below, after watching his former Anfield team-mate Xabi Alonso thrive at Real Madrid and the little South American did nothing to play down speculation yesterday.
Koppites have viewed talk of Mascherano's contract wranglings as an attempt by the player to up his wages - at £60,000 a week his salary is way short of the cash pocketed by Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard.
But Mascherano, who has struggled to recapture his best form this term, said: "I've heard that I've been asking for a new contract but that's not true.
"I have not been asking for a new contract and I have never asked for a new contract. I don't play for the money. I play to win things."
That last sentence will disturb boss Rafa Benitez as Liverpool will be out of the title race if they lose to Manchester United today and their Champions League hopes have been hit by two defeats in three fixtures.
If he is motivated by medals then Barca look a more attractive proposition.
The Argentinian would like to go in January but his contract expires in 2012 and it seems unlikely Benitez will sanction that unless he can find a suitable replacement.
Mascherano said: "I've talked with Rafa but nothing happens so I have to play for Liverpool. I have to give my best for them. I am here for now and I don't want to talk any more about Barcelona."
