January targets

Toss up between Skrtel and Agger.
Agger was given the vice captaincy by Rodgers, so it's more likely that its Skrtel.

Do we need a top class left back? Not a priority imo.
I'd rather we look for a top class winger or midfielder.

We don't necessarily need a top class left back, but a half decent one would be a start.

Why not just shift Glenjo to the left and find a suitable RB, or play one of the youngsters on the right if it's so bad? There are significantly more quality RB's on the market than LB's, and Glenjo has proven he can play on the left in the past.

Would also work considering he's better at shooting than crossing, so he could cut inside more frequently.

Glenjo on the right, and Enrique on the left will do for now.

BR will spend decent money on a left back either in January or next summer, I'm certain of it.

Because we play with a system that necessitates the fullbacks to act as pure wingers in attack while the midfielder, likely to be Coutinho, goes way inside.
We can't be having both players on the left cutting inside all the time. A left footed player is a must. Look at what Johnson offered us with his constant overlapping with Hendo tucking inside.

Ince back at Inter Milan! Italian giants could land Blackpool ace for just £155,000... and here's why

Blackpool could lose Thomas Ince for as little as £155,000 as he considers a move abroad.
The 21-year-old winger, rated at £8million, is a free agent in the summer but Blackpool can still expect considerable compensation should he move to another English club.
However, Ince is free to talk to foreign clubs in January and is attracting interest from Ajax and Inter Milan, one of his father Paul’s former sides.

INCE STARTS TO CONVINCE

The stats show Tom Ince's progression at Blackpool
2011–12 Games 41 Goals 8
2012–13 Games 47 Goals 18
2013–14 Games 10 Goals 6
Ince, who has scored six goals for his club this season to follow up his 18 last term, is warming to the idea of such a move to improve his education in the game but that would deliver a crushing blow to Blackpool’s finances.
FIFA regulations state any ‘cross-border’ transfer for a player of Ince’s age will result in compensation of around only £155,000.
Liverpool are due 35 per cent of any transfer fee under the agreement in place when they allowed Ince to join Blackpool three years ago but that clause does not apply to compensation.
Cardiff had an £8m bid accepted for Ince in August but the player turned down the move, while Newcastle also made an enquiry.

Been there, done it! Ince could follow in his father Paul's footsteps and leave English football for Italy's Serie A

Newcastle, Everton, Tottenham and Swansea are now considering offers in January. But they know that Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston will drive a hard bargain for his prize asset and will be reluctant to accept less than £5m, even though there will be just six months left on Ince’s contract at that stage.
Oyston confirmed in a question and answer session with Blackpool fans yesterday that the England Under 21 star is out of contract in the summer. But he added: ‘But he’s too young to go for free anyway.’
Ideally, Blackpool want to keep Ince and will make a series of contract offers in an effort to convince him to stay. That will also help to protect their own position when any tribunal determines compensation value if he moves in England

I would disagree that we need them to be pure wingers, our central players drift out to the wings often enough that the fullbacks need to be passable wingers, but by no means completely one sided. Either way, Glenjo/Enrique's crossing isn't the greatest to begin with, so if anything we're losing no "pure winger" ability on the left with Johnson being able to use either foot on that side, and then another true RB playing that wing, who in all likelihood will be more cross heavy anyways.

We'd have more or less the same play on the right with a new option, and more attacking threat from the left as Glenjo is a better crosser and shooter than Enrique, even if he's using his left for the crossing. Our game relies on playing through the middle more often than crossing in from the wing when we're pressing in numbers anyways, so while the width is important, the idea that we have to be putting in crosses all that frequently isn't quite as true if you ask me. That's why we can get away with playing a player like Enrique at LB as it stands, because the crosses are less important than the interchange play.

I was just going to post that the reason a LB is an area that needs addressing is because the way we're currently set up demands width from our full-backs rather than our out and out attackers.

That said, I think you're focusing unnecessarily on crossing. Enrique ultimately needs replacing because his ability going forward isn't particularly great, crossing or no crossing. He gets by on pace and strength, which we've seen him use to some effect when trying to burst past defenders on the overlap. I'd like to see someone who knows when to pass and when to keep the ball for a start - a basic skill that Enrique has yet to master.

That being said, central midfield is clearly first priority. In attack, we still have Aspas, Moses, Sterling and Ibe who haven't really been given a proper go this season and whilst none of them are going to turn top class overnight, they hopefully won't need to as long as Sturridge, Suarez and Coutinho remain fit.

Buy a central midfielder if we can in Jan and send Cissokho home.

Against Fulham we attacked 50% on our right side, 30% through the centre and 20% down the left side.
We'll be a far more unpredictable and better team when we can attack with quality down our left side aswell.

Coutinho wandered in centrally most of the time but if GlenJo is missing or having an off day we struggle down the flanks.

A new left back will most likely be bought this summer imho.

But in midfield we have Lucas, Gerrard, Allen & Henderson who are much more capable than Sterling, Ibe & Aspas with Moses filling time.

We need to get another top quality attacking midfielder in that mix or else it all falls apart when Coutinho isn't there or Suarez has an off day.

Well, what do you mean by an attacking midfielder? A David Silva / Coutinho type (out and out attacker) or a could it be a Gerrard type (all-rounder with an attacking edge) also?

Yep, but essentially we could probably say we need two midfielders, competition for Lucas and another top attacking midfielder. Where that then leaves Allen and Henderson is anyone's guess, personally I'd want to persevere with both, they're only young and have time on their sides to make it.

It's obvious Rodgers doesn't fancy Enrique, as said he doesn't quite give us enough in the way of intelligent play. Defensively he's good and he gives us balance, so I wouldn't be looking to force the lad out, but we need competition for him and I'm not sure the technically inferior Cissokho is anywhere near what we need. Not sure what Rodgers was doing there.

Moses hasn't done himself any favours either, I don't think I've seen a less interested or less motivated loanee.

Despite Blackpool's good start to the season Ince's performances are attracting much criticism from Blackpool fans, apparently he's a long way off last season's performances.

To be honest, we need to pull out all the stops to find someone who will take over from Gerrard in the next few years... I think that might be best served when we are back in the CL and can attract someone top notch again.

Trouble is I am not really sure who that would be right now.

Although to be honest the best option plays for the lot just across the park! That Barkley would be a great signing.

the owners would have to be idiots not to spend big in january. we'll probably only have suarez for this season and we need to make the most of it.

I see why others say we need more attacking options, but for me we already have players who are capable of being that option but are unable to demonstrate that due to weakness in the main starting eleven.

We should improve on both DM and LB considerably and in that order. When we do that, we will see that players like Suso, Alberto etc can get in and express themselves better.

We really should look to address at least one of those two positions this January.
