Wisconsin gave Nebraska a warm welcome to the Big10, lighting them up for almost fifty points. Interesting situation with their QB, Russell Wilson. He was a three year starter at NC State, but they released him from his scholarship as he had been drafted to MLB and was playing in the minors, disrupting his offseason schedule. As a graduate, he could transfer to another post-grad program and play immediately in his final year of eligibility. He has already thrown for 1400 yards in five games, completing almost 75%. 13-1 TDs to INT ratio.
There's some debate to be had about this I suppose, especially after Cam Newton's effectively one-and-out career at Auburn. Admittedly, Wilson didn't seek a move away from NC State, they initiated his release (wonder how they're feeling about that now given they're 0-2 in their ACC division), so it would be unfair not to allow him to see his final year of eligibility out. The interesting thing is how it affects his draft status (if he chooses to go pro in football, having already been drafted in baseball). He was a dubious prospect last year, even though he was one of the ACC's better signal callers. He's under six foot, and I think scouts saw him as conflicted (as NC State obviously did). Now he's a Heisman contender and is torching teams with the Badgers. Makes you wonder what all the scouting is worth.
Good news in the Big 12 - they've agreed a revenue sharing deal. All of the general TV monies will be put in a pot and divided equally (leaving teams to keep revenues gained from their own stations - Texas weren't about to give up the $15m a year they get from ESPN for the Longhorns Network after they climbed over dead bodies to get it). Should convince Missouri to stay, securing the future of the conference. Rumours they are looking to hijack TCU's move to the Big East now, and possibly looking at Houston/SMU/Boise in further expansion (or 'respansion' I suppose as they've lost a bunch of members). A good thing for me. The idea of the Big 12 dissolving and Texas/Oklahoma/OK State possibly not being in the same division anymore doesn't sit well. Of course, I fully expect Texas to try and get conference games to slide down to the Longhorn network, which will open the can of worms again. All revenue deals in 1A at the moment are basically glorified games of three card monte.
