just cant be beat anymore?

Putting aside our poor summer spending (even though its huge) the teams with the biggest investment in the league usually finish top.
If someone asked me do I think Valencia or Atletico or Roma or Lazio (all great teams with great history) would win the league again in the next say 10 to 15 years I would honestly say no.
Are we not the same? are we just emotionally attached and because of that believing that we are different and we have a chance?

I'll be honest ive picked apart the minutae of our season quite enough (downing, Carroll, Meireles, Luck, referees etc etc) but the bottom line is we dont have enough quality and we cant afford the kind of quality needed in every position to compete. And as for a policy of recruiting youth as that could pay dividends in future, how will that work? When Fabregas, Nasri, Young etc are leaving huge clubs because they want to win NOW! How do you build a dynasty in the days of player/power?
How do you get from where we (roma, Sevilla, Atletico etc) are to compete with those above us?

I struggle to think (now that ive seen City this season) that I can possible believe again that we can win the league. Sad realisation though this is, Rafa had it right. We're a cup team. Thats all we can really hope to be.
The league winning liverpool was decades ago.

Sad to say you may very well be right ... unless FSG continue to throw money at the transfer market and we stop making stupid mistakes like Carroll & Henderson.

Either that, or you have to sign young up and coming talent before the other top clubs.
We have already had our chance with Alves, Aguero and Silva.

You make some excellent points Oncy and overall it is hard to disagree with you.
We had some cash this last 12 months and we made a balls of it.

Utd & Chelsea are currently weak comparative to where they once were and where City are right now. We can match those two but would need luck to finish above City over a season. Sadly we hosed all our cash on overpriced garbage. It all started with the Carroll transfer and has got worse.

I've said it before & I'll say it again: Had Rafa paid nearly £70m for Carroll, Henderson & Downing, he'd have had a contract on his head. And Brendan would have imploded.

I'd love to see what he'd have called those 3 right now.....

Yeah it's possible but it's going to take us some time and some top draw management.

Look at the Gooners, they've spent fuck all for ages, yet with one or two good buys during this period they could of easily won the league a couple of times.
