Is fourth place definitely gone?

I'm certainly feeling as deflated and defeated as the rest of you but looking at the table and the upcoming fixtures, do you believe fourth place is definitely gone?
We're currently eight points behind United with our next two games compared to United's next two being:

Liverpool vs. Newcastle (Anfield)
Manchester United vs. Manchester City (Old Trafford)

Hull vs. Liverpool (KC Stadium)
Chelsea vs. Manchester United (Stamford Bridge)

A LOT would have to go our way but we could potentially only be two points off United with five games to go.

Thoughts?

Nope, it's not but it's a long shot. Really need scum to lose those next 2 games. However, they are playing well and will fancy themselves against City at the moment.

The points gap will allow them to relax and play with freedom. It will also force us to play with nerves and pressure. Therefore that gap is more likely to get wider, don't hold your breath for it to get cut to two points.

It's only gone if we play like fucking twats as we have the last 2 games. If we don't, miracles happen. Just ask Milan fans.

Nah it's gone. We don't really have a 'team' at the moment. Just a collection of players without a leader. We don't have enough to get fourth now

It's far from impossible but the way we have played over the last month we have no chance.
I think we'd have to win out the remaining games to have any chance and can't see that happening.

United will drop a lot more points and could possibly have 3 defeats on the bounce (H - City, A - Chelsea and A - Everton), however the issue isn't with United dropping points .. it's with us winning our games. I think that confidence bubble has well and truly burst and missing Skrtel, Gerrard and Can for the next 1-2 matches could put us well and truly out of it.

It's done. To stand any chance we would need to practically win every game and I can't see that happening. We have a couple of tough games still, too. Off the top of my head, we still have Chelsea and Stoke away to come. Gone gone gone.

Knowing us, Utd will lose 2 on the spin while we win so that we just might get our hopes up before its punched right back in our face again.

I suspect we'll begin to improve again now that the expectation our unbeaten run gave us has evaporated.

I really do think that our problem is mental toughness and not skill or pace or passing which we have amply shown on too many occasions to be a fluke.

Its noticeable that our form dips when the hype starts, for example 2 games ago many were speculating we might finish 2nd. I'm sure the players react in similar fashion to fans and lose focus quickly and have bouts of extreme optimism and pessimism.

I suggest we improve our sports psychology to try to even out these peaks and troughs.

If City drop points today away at Palace then who do we want to win at OT next weekend?
Utd probably have the toughest run in.

Either way, it wont happen for us this season.

Why would you put yourself through the hope and the eventual let down? There's an extremely slim chance of us making it. You may point to Istanbul, and as miraculous as that was, it was only one game. We have to win 7 on the trot and hope that at least one of the four very good teams above us has a catastrophic collapse. Anything can happen in one game. But stretch that out over 7 (or 38 if you want to look at the league as a whole) and the other teams' superior quality will shine through. Don't do it to yourself.

City seem to be shit at the minute

If we could get our act together...

No Mark! Don't fall in to the hope grave
