Post Match Ipswich (H) 4-1 25th Jan 15:00

I watched the game. Wolves had nothing going forward. Despite playing against 10 men.
And their red was deserved

Had to be out for the 2nd half so listened to 5live. The wanking over arsenal was irritating.

How did we play 2nd half?

Job done. Easy win - made Ipswich look like Accrington. No injuries.

Nice to have the game dead and buried in the first half for a change.

Hopefully a bore draw in the El plastico.

Macca was still there after the subs but we largely lost control.

They were still in a low block but when we lose the ball we couldn't get it back.

The last 10 mins we were just going through the motions.

Nunez and Harvey were crap.

Attack vs defense, then we put out a worse team and it was still good, but shockingly was worse. They were the correct subs because they were any subs we got away with easily.

Very very comfortable afternoon.

Surprised Konate or Virgil weren’t subbed at HT esp if Konate is playing through pain.

Dom was superb first half. Best 45 in red. Goal and an assist.
Gakpo brilliant, 2 goals and a delicious assist.
Salah with his standard goal and was a constant threat down the right, on another day could have had an assist and tracked back twice really well to win the ball with TAA in jog mode.

TAA was great going forward with a lovely assist and unlucky not to score.

Macca was brilliant, he really is the unsung hero.

Robertson much improved with the rest.

Ali with a couple of good saves.

Job done, 13 wins to go!

How Palmer and Jackson fucked up that earlier break was remarkable. It had to be 0-2 and yet ... still 0-1 but there looks to be lots of goals in this game. Defensively both shite.

Very good performance all round really…Grav really is a Rolls Royce of a player.

I’m not sure Elliott did himself much favours in his cameo. Created nothing and looked very much lacking the pace and physicality (their goal and other moments) needed to be a genuine top class central midfielder in the modern game.

Elliott also failed to stop his man at the corner where Ipswich scored

Why is he man marking someone who's 6ft1 is what I wanna know.

Someone needs to tell him to stay on the edge of the box or be the first man or something. Asks for trouble, it's basic stuff.

Ali (6.5) had nothing much at all to do - gets +1 for that great save. Couldn't do anything for their goal.

Robbo (6.5) still gave the ball away unnecessarily but looked lively. Better than of late.
Virgil (7.5) Rolls Royce.
Konate (7) involved in most of the build-ups. Ipswich hardly had a sniff until after the subs but Ibou did let the cross come in that led to their goal.
Trent (8) One of his best displays for a long time but no coincidence it was against a team that offered almost nothing going forward. When he plays up to his offensive best he's great.

Gravy - (9) - the midfield's Virgil equivalent. Brilliant. Dominating. MotM
Macca - (7.5) - very good all over the pitch.
Szobo - (8) - the first half was Szobo back to his best. The second rather low key.

Gakpo - (7) - two goals but not a lot besides. Still, right place right time.
Diaz - (5) - didn't get involved or contribute in any major way today.
Mo. (7) - more of those over-hit passes, poor shooting & mis-controlled balls but also a brilliantly taken goal and had his FB on toast a few times - without finding an end product in the form of a killer pass or goal. Done well to race back to win possession that he had lost - twice.

Endo - (6.5) - combative and did well.
Nunez - (5) ineffective but no service
Danns - (5) why play him in midfield?
Elliott - (5) - far from his best cameo
Chiesa - N/A on too late, did he even touch the ball?

Slot - (6) - Could have made subs much earlier. Could have given Chiesa many more minutes. Why play Danns in midfield?!

Thing is, he comes on for Szobo and so takes over his corner marking…it’s why in the modern game, having no glaring physical limitations is so important. It’s not just a matter of size either, as Endo for instance would have done a much better job of marking the goal scorer.

In other moments of play too, Harvey’s lack of pace made it easy for their (pretty mediocre) midfield to play around him, despite his effort.

I just don’t see how Elliott will ever become a central midfield option for us without us risking something in our defensive capacity.

It's a little tweak, Arne.......Heitinga.......Virg.......someone has to tell him to stay away from the penalty box in set pieces. I can't pass blame onto a player when he should've never been allowed in the position to begin with.

Endo is a defensive player and an aggressive one at that, of course he'd have done better.....so why hasn't he the 1 instructed with picking him up? We could've helped ourselves but chose not to, now Harvey will feel like shit....probably wake up in the morning and decide to do a U-turn on staying.

The goal conceded doesn't even need analysing it's so basic.

It’s not just the goal though. he was easily played around a few times in a short cameo.

Yes, Endo’s a more defensive midfielder, but if Harvey wants to establish himself as any kind of midfielder he’ll have to improve significantly the defensive side of his game…period.

Sure but a bit of context is needed, no? Coming on at 4-0 when the game's dead.....ending in a midfield of Endo Danns and himself, what are you expecting here?

Everyone knows about his physical limitations but we don't really help ourselves by putting him on man marking duties anyway, it's stupid shit.

We could see his defensive side in his cameo midweek tracking and pinching the ball back or cutting out passes, he's a player that needs that midfield protection behind him to thrive.

I'd probably give Gakpo an extra 0.5. I mean, he did score 2 goals.

And Diaz's off the ball work and interchanging with Gakpo helped open up a lot of space, including for Szobo's goal. 6 or 6.5 for me.

But otherwise, pretty good summary.

And he got an assist

2 goals and an assist usually has people squirting like bonnie blue

Gakpo is unfashionable, with minimal flair. Think that's his problem
