Injuries updates

To be fair to keita, there aren't many in the game who've had a longer career than Milner

We need Alcantara more than anybody on that injury list right now.
Big Ib is right up there. He’s been a massive miss with that pace, power and brutal strength to deal with that ball behind Trent. Zaha would’ve shit himself had he been playing and not Phillips.

Fab C is injured, most likely out for the midweek fixture.
Melo Yellow is probably going to be playing

Should we be getting concerned about Jones' injury record? I can't think of a period he has been available for a sustained period of time. These are key years in his development as a player, and in Klopp's trust that he can become a reliable part of the machine. I am all in favour of trying to nurture home grown players in to the team but he seems like another total basket case.

I think we will sell Jones next year. Jones, Kelleher and Gomez are probably our best assets from the non-core players. Could potentially get 20-25 million for each.

Jurgen Klopp has revealed another injury setback for Curtis Jones in a difficult start to the season for the midfielder, with more positive news on Fabio Carvalho.
The new campaign is yet to get going for Jones, who came off the bench in the Community Shield but has only made the matchday squad on one other occasion so far.

That came in the 2-1 win over Newcastle at the end of August, with the 21-year-old having recovered from a calf injury that kept him out for a month, the belief being he would take up regular duties again.
But Jones was again absent from the Merseyside derby last weekend and did not travel to Naples for Wednesday’s Champions League opener.
In his pre-match press conference, Klopp explained that Jones had suffered a recurrence of his previous injury, and though it was “not as bad” as before, it is still “not very helpful.”
“Curtis, when he was out previously, had a stress reaction in a specific bone around the tibia,” the manager told reporters.
“It was absolutely fine, no problem anymore. Trained twice, felt it again.
“It’s not as bad as the first time, but it’s bad enough to not be involved in team training again, which is not very helpful.”

Jones’ ongoing issues add to layoffs for Jordan Henderson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, while Carvalho was also omitted from the 21-man squad to take on Napoli.
Carvalho suffered a dead leg during the 0-0 draw with Everton, leaving Klopp increasingly short of options in midfield despite the return of Thiago from a hamstring problem.
But Klopp is optimistic over his No. 28 and hopes he can return for the visit of Wolveson Saturday afternoon.
“Fabio got a massive dead leg, which caused the muscle some problems, so it was no chance,” he said.
“He’s walking now normal, but there was no chance to train until now.
“We hope now every day will get better and he will be ready for the weekend, but I’m not 100 percent sure.

Ireland manager Stephen Kenny says he hasn't spoken to Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp about Caoimhin Kelleher's injury problems.

The number two goalkeeper has been out of action all season after picking up an injury while on international duty with Ireland in June.

"No, I haven't spoken to Jurgen Klopp but the medical teams have been in constant contact so that's been evident," Kenny said.

"With Caoimhin, if Caoimhin tweaked something in the game against Ukraine it wasn't evident by his performance. He performed very well and done everything really well. I honestly wasn't aware of him being injured at that time.

"He trained with Liverpool when he went back for pre-season and got injured, but certainly it was something that we weren't aware of it.

"The good thing is he's making good progress and is back very soon, and should be back for the next camp for sure."

Our homegrown players are Kelleher, Milner, Trent, Nat, Gomez and Ox. We simply can't afford to let Jones, Kelleher and Gomez leave if as expected Milner, Ox and Nat are moved on this summer. We'd have a playing squad of 20 which isn't sustainable.

They'll probably all leave on frees at the age of 35 only to return a few months later for a joint testimonial...

But in all seriousness, it feels like we only sell players that want to leave these days.

It takes either a brave, stupid or very greedy player to want to give up Klopp hugs - I’m not surprised no-one wants to leave.

Caoimhin Kelleher has yet to feature in a minute of any pre-season or this campaign proper and that came from an injury that the ‘keeper picked up, following his international duties with Ireland in the summer.
Jurgen Klopp was frustrated with the decision for the Irish to say that the 23-year-old would be ‘good after holiday’ and it’s clear that this has not been the case, given that we still haven’t seen him in action or even proper training.

Speaking with the media ahead of the upcoming international fixtures, Republic of Ireland boss Stephen Kenny hit back at the German by saying (via 90min): “[Dr Alyn Byrne, team doctor] has a reputation from being involved in 200 internationals.

“They have medical notes, extensive notes, on every injury and we have no notes on Caoimhin from that camp.
“They write everything down and there’s no medical notes, so it’s interesting.

“If Caoimhin did tweak something, we weren’t aware of it. He trained with Liverpool when he went back for pre-season and got injured.
“We’re fine, we’ve got great respect for Liverpool. I’m sure it’s not an issue and we’ll all move on.”

It’s certainly some sort of disagreement between the two sets of coaches and medical departments, with both seemingly now blaming the other for how the stopper was injured.
Perhaps the easiest way to end all of this is to ask our No.62 himself and that would surely end any debate on this matter.

According to our boss, he felt something during international duty and felt it again as soon as he returned to action with the Reds – although it was also said then that he would only be out for ‘two, three weeks’ and that’s now over seven weeks ago.
It’s all a bit strange and we’ve got a lot of injuries in our ranks now, something which a lot has been made about, but also several of these are smaller injuries that have dragged on and have no real indication of a return.

Calvin Ramsay, Naby Keita and Curtis Jones all have ambiguous injuries with mystery return dates at the moment and it’s all getting a little bit strange.
Fingers crossed we can have a clean bill of health soon and all these issues and quarrels can be behind us.

As things stand, there have been no reports of fresh injury worries over the course of the international break, and we already know that at least two players who weren’t available for the Reds’ last game over Ajax have now returned to fitness. Having recovered from a hamstring injury, Jordan Henderson featured in England’s Nations League encounter with Germany on Monday, and Ibrahima Konate is back in full training following a knee problem.

The Athletic‘s James Pearce reporting on Wednesday that Calvin Ramsay and Curtis Jones are “both stepping up their work back out on the grass” at Liverpool’s training ground. Summer arrival Ramsay has been out since the start of pre-season with various issues, most notably his back, but Klopp explained last month that he is “closer and closer” to joining first-team training.
Jones hasn’t featured since Liverpool’s Community Shield win over Man City in July, with The Times‘ Paul Joyce describing his injury as “a stress reaction to a bone around the tibia.” He did return to training in August, and was named on the bench for the 2-1 defeat to Man United, before suffering a setback.

However, it seems both could be back in action in the coming weeks, further boosting Klopp’s squad ahead of their hectic pre-World Cup schedule.
Elsewhere, Andy Robertson remains sidelined, having picked up a knee injury against Napoli earlier this month, meaning Kostas Tsimikas should continue at left-back against Brighton.
It’s unclear whether goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is ready to return to the matchday squad, with Klopp set to provide an injury update in his pre-match press conference on Friday. Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Kaide Gordon also remain out.

Hope this is just a precaution - even the most patient and optimistic of us getting fucked off now !!

Thiago an injury worry?

28 players were pictured in Liverpool training at Kirkby on Friday, but Thiago was not one of them.
We already knew Arthur wouldn’t be there, with Jurgen Klopp confirming the Brazilian was set for a spell on the sidelines in his pre-match press conference on Friday.
Curtis Jones was present, with the Liverpool boss revealing the midfielder returned to training on Thursday, and there was also a sighting of Andy Robertson, although it’s not clear whether he took part in the full session.
There’s every chance Liverpool are just being careful with Thiago, who only returned from a hamstring injury last month, and started against both Brighton And Rangers.

Arthur‘s muscle problem was referred to by Klopp as “the one new injury” in the squad, and there was no mention of any issue for Thiago.
Fingers crossed there’s nothing to worry about!
