Injuries updates

Diogo Jota is set to return to training later this week as Jürgen Klopp offered an update on three other injured players within his Liverpool squad.

Curtis Jones and Joel Matip were pictured taking part in Monday afternoon’s session at the AXA Training Centre ahead of the Reds' meeting with Newcastle United in midweek.

Meanwhile, Jota, Thiago Alcantara, Caoimhin Kelleher and Calvin Ramsay are also continuing to make encouraging progress with their rehabilitation.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Klopp said: "I think Diogo can train from Thursday on and Thiago I think slightly later, so we will see.

"Calvin is getting closer, Caoimh I saw now only walking outside going for normal goalkeeper training. So yeah, there’s light at the end of the tunnel, definitely."

Is Jones available this weekend or are we throwing Arthur straight in at LCM against Everton?

Really hoping one of Arthur or Jones is match fit enough to get the nod over Milner to start at LCM against Everton - I kind of like Milly coming in for Trent for the last 25 minutes to freshen it up, can’t do that if he can barely run after playing 65 minutes in midfield.

I prefer Millie to start the game when Everton will be at their most energetic and diving into tackles. He will give as good as he gets and won't be intimidated (in fact he may well be the one doing the intimidating) ! Better that then Carvalho, Jones or Melo (unlikely) come on after 60-70 mins.

“Diogo probably will be in as well, he trained yesterday with the team first time. He will train today.
I have to make a decision, does it make sense that we involve him already or not? But if, it is the first time we have five attackers – sounds like Christmas!”

See, I at least feel bad for ox. He either plays within himself, scared of injury, or goes all out and gets injured. Plus he seems a likeable lad in the dressing room

Keita is the polar opposite for me. Always injured, regardless of input. Then is a cheeky cunt to get his agent to moan about playing time

That isn't the thing that annoys me about him.

When a team is a juggernaut that's laying waste to all before it, as we have been at times, people start to think it's a team of captains, a team of winners. The reality is that there are a lot of passengers being brought along, even if they have real ability. Keita has played very well in several games and really offered something we need at times, despite being a poor fit for our incredibly demanding and limiting midfield system.

Then there have been some big big games where due to injury, it's incumbent on him to take more responsibility and turn up in a more significant way. Instead, those games have been his worst. We've got less trophies because of him. Whatever that is, that so many of our players are blessed with, he doesn't have. Even when he's fit.
