It's Last Chance Saloon for Luis too. Another year on and Real/Barca won't even consider him regardless of how well he is playing. 28 in January and although that may be his prime there's not a lot of value for £80-100M.
Barca did pay 35M quid for a 28 year old David Villa, and did that crazy transfer for Zlatan when he was 27.
I think if you're looking for comparable deals, that's about as close as they're going to get. If this deal happens, it's going to be more of a benchmark than part of a trend. But I do think that indicates that Barcelona, arguably the more fiscally conservative club we'd be dealing with, I don't know if one year would make or break that transfer a year from now if Suarez has another elite season.
If we refuse to sell him this summer, and he is anything less than one of the best players in the world though, then the regrets will be enormous. 80M can buy you a lot of talent, as long as you aren't stupid with it like Spurs. I think the important thing with us is we have other attacking talent, even if it isn't necessarily comparable. The Spurs comparison is stupid because we have a much more established system, and the pull to be qualified to chase players of any caliber now that we're in the Champion's League and/or title race.
If we sell him and don't use that factor to our advantage though, there are big issues within the club that need to be addressed. But that's looking a bit too far ahead at this time.
