If Not Suarez .......

It's Last Chance Saloon for Luis too. Another year on and Real/Barca won't even consider him regardless of how well he is playing. 28 in January and although that may be his prime there's not a lot of value for £80-100M.

Barca did pay 35M quid for a 28 year old David Villa, and did that crazy transfer for Zlatan when he was 27.

I think if you're looking for comparable deals, that's about as close as they're going to get. If this deal happens, it's going to be more of a benchmark than part of a trend. But I do think that indicates that Barcelona, arguably the more fiscally conservative club we'd be dealing with, I don't know if one year would make or break that transfer a year from now if Suarez has another elite season.

If we refuse to sell him this summer, and he is anything less than one of the best players in the world though, then the regrets will be enormous. 80M can buy you a lot of talent, as long as you aren't stupid with it like Spurs. I think the important thing with us is we have other attacking talent, even if it isn't necessarily comparable. The Spurs comparison is stupid because we have a much more established system, and the pull to be qualified to chase players of any caliber now that we're in the Champion's League and/or title race.

If we sell him and don't use that factor to our advantage though, there are big issues within the club that need to be addressed. But that's looking a bit too far ahead at this time.

Why is it last chance saloon for Suarez ? If it's last chance saloon for anyone it is the club.

They'll get their man, just at a lower price - he will still be a very good player it just won't cost them 80m to get him

I imagine Henry & Co will be having some very frank internal conversations about the Suarez situation this summer..

First let's make some assumptions :-

1. Real or Barca will come in for him and he'll want to go. If both come in that is the second best scenario (nobody coming in for him being the best) and could push the fee up regardless of any release clause (we've seen this happen before regardless of the release figure).

2. There is a release clause so we have no option but to sell if it is met.

3. We assume that whatever fee we receive for Luis will be given back to Rodgers (less tax).

How are you going to spend that money ? Spread it around on all positions where we are weak ? Dump a big chunk of it into buying a top class striker ... and if so realistically who and why would they come to Liverpool ?

Will other top class talent want to come to Anfield now that Luis has gone ?

Let's hear it.

Will Real appaz having wrapped up Falcao, there's no need for Suarez. Barca getting clear run at him. If he decides to go we must maximise deal. 50M + Pedro+Sanchez+Affelay or something similar to that.

But thats doesn't mean they wont pay. Still after this WC is probably the best time to sell if he wants to go anyway. He has been rather quiet about any move. Lets wait and see what happens.

I love the perverse revisionism going on in these threads now - Rodgers is inexperienced, other clubs have found us out, it was a one-off season, etc. It's Harvey Fufkin time. We're not worthy!

I don't think he fits the barca 'image', but you never know. Would have thought he'd be an ideal fit for the madrid 'image'. Would be good news if Falcao goes there though.
Can't see Sanchez coming here in a million years, maybe some of their dross like pedro/affelay, but if Sanchez wants out, he'd have a pick of the european top teams, and a 200k+ a week salary.

He wants to go because his wife wants them to live in Spain, or he wants more money, or he wants two huge league games a year, or he's dazzled by a club that maybe didn't dazzle him quite so much when he was pretending to play for Liverpool on his pc games when he was a kid (oh how such claptrap becomes a nuisance later on, eh?) but now dazzles him for its whiteness and bigness and richness - fine. But don't serve his PR men by trying to claim he wants to go because of his simple and noble desire to prove himself at the highest level. Try to retain a smidgin of dignity.

Heh, true, but that year cannot be accounted for. It was a completely miraculous achievement.

It can be accounted for. We didn't just win it in Istanbul, we beat other top sides on the way.

One side we didn't have to beat BTW was Owen's Real. Though we would have done, had it been necessary.

Oh I'm not saying we didn't deserve it, but nobody could have foreseen that. Nobody.

Who's said any of that?

I don't think money comes into it. We are paying him 200 grand a week after all. Regardless of whether you like it or not, Real Madrid and Barcelona are viewed as the pinnacle of the game outside of people in England. Particularly in Spanish speaking countries and places with a similar culture. It's just the way it is.

Look, I'm not talking about you so I don't get your problem. Move the fuck on!

I didn't imply that you did. I just wanted to know who said it because I haven't seen it anywhere. Stop being so hysterical.

I actually don't want to ignore him because he's a good poster. But he's being hysterical recently. I asked a simple question and get called a pompous twat and told to fuck off. He's being precious.

You're valuing Suarez at about £110m there. That's not going to happen

Suarez....saloon...value depreciation...ha, you serious there.
what matters is finishing one more season in top 4 and get that consistency, having one more shot at title, playing with chin high in CL and building on the stuff which is already laid in the last season. We have to create the brand once again that we are back with waves so that even top talents will beg their clubs to come to us. So it doesnt matter, if suarez is 28 in Jan next year, we simply need him and SASA... those dots/blank needs to be filled with another top talent in the front three for us.

If Schanchzzzz joins us, I can fap every day, just looking at the letters SASAS. We will keep on shitting goals on the face of every defender from moon to sun. We need another top talent and not sell one of the we alredy have.
