Honeymoon over?

You can't coach courage. You can get a few up for the odd game but many of these drips need chucking out the club. Let Barca buy the great Coutinho - shut the door on the way out, Phil, mate.

Klopp's a better manager than Rodgers. Yep, agree. But we're 9th at Xmas.

Is that much worse than Rodgers has/ could have managed?

Nope

Well, this is something we'll never know.

What we do know though is that it was time for Rodgers to go.

And I'm more than willing to give Klopp enough time to a) get the players he obviously needs and b) have them playing jis way.

The lot we now have don't have the heart or brain to do so.

Again: Rodgers, at the same stage in his first season, was still getting more patience shown in spite of the fact all his teams did was tippy tap around their own area and all he was doing was complaining about his wafer thin squad. So unless you're pining for first year Rodgers, I don't get the comparison.

I'm not 'pining' for Rodgers. I'm just correctly pointing out that Klopp isn't doing any better than him so far, given we're ninth in the league, behind Watford, West Ham, Leicester and Palace, we've conceded 7 goals in our last three league games, won one point out of a possible nine, and that's not very impressive at all

Oh God yes. Replacing Rodgers with an available, far superior manager like Klopp, was an obvious and easy decision.

But while heart and brain are important, too many of our squad lack the required level of ability too

Klopp is doing better Rodgers - he's got us through to the next round of the Euros.

Well and truly over but it's going to take time to get it right.

Patience is needed big time but when have our fans ever had that.

Hmmm , read the post Southampton thread, then read the post Watford one.

Our fans are laughable at times.

We were boss against Southampton so everyone was buzzing and showering us with praise. And rightly so.

We were completely shite again Watford so everyone was fucked off and venting their fury. And rightly so.

What's the big deal? No-ones calling for anyone's head or questioning Klopp as our Manager going forward from what I see.

I'm more referring to the players, one week we have a great core of a squad the next it's hard to name 3 we should keep.

As was seen at Chelski and United, there's a breed of players who sit back and wait for the manager to get it. With ours, they downed tools for Rodgers. Now they know Klopp is too popular for them to avoid all the flak at present, but it's as if they more concerned with waiting for that bubble to burst than they are in really embracing the manager's vision. They're doing just enough to avoid being accused of not doing enough. The younger ones look like they want to learn - Ibe, Moreno, Smith, Origi - and Hendo and Can seem ready to work. But I hope the fans let the players know they're behind the manager, completely and passionately, because otherwise they'll see the doubts as yet another excuse to give up. That's the only thing this team, collectively, is good at: giving up.

I think the Honeymoon for the players is over. None of the current crop can say that they haven't been given a chance by Klopp to step up and few of them have taken the chance.

I expect Klopp to bring the Honeymoon to an abrupt end if only to save himself and his reputation by being ruthless in his weeding out of those that aren't able to reach the level of fitness and desire his footballing style requires.

Ready yourself for some German imports I'd guess, players he knows can dig in and carry out a game-plan without becoming timid and bullied. You have to be ready to compete right from the first whistle and it's plain to see that our players (for whatever reason) can't sustain that mode.

If I was Klopp I wouldn't want my legacy sullied by 'artistes' who run for the dressing room if big bad Troy cunting Deeney stares at me. What an embarrassing episode. Fortunately we have games thick and fast to forget that mess.

Merry fucking Christmas.

Controlled aggression is something our players lack in spades. Klopp's Dortmund team had this in abundance both in attack and defence and I think that's whats missing from the team at the moment.
It's not about throwing in dangerous or reckless tackles on the opposition but competing with them and not showing weakness. Yesterday and for the last couple of weeks the lack of fight in our players has been evident. Firminho,Lallana ,Coutinho, Benteke as well as some others have been terribly timid and unnasertive lately and it just gives the opposition confidence that they can roll us over.
It doesn't help either that the senior players like Skrtel , Lucas and Milner have shown a distinct lack of leadership lately which is disappointing.
I can accept us not being very good but i can't accept us not competing and I suspect that Klopp will soon grow tired of players who aren't up for the fight.

In Klopp or Lfc? we will improve massively soon.

Klopp is the one.

Liverpool sadly.

I find it very disheartening to see a team like Spurs look well organized and well placed to kick on whilst we're *still* fucking scrambling about trying to get our shit together despite spending yet another fortune on another set of players.

Look at the league this season, everyone is dreadful, Leceister are top of the league and yet we've still managed somehow to keep ourselves down in 9th or some shit.

I suspect we're gonna see a couple of dirk kuyt type players brought in over the next month.

Whilst we may not be able to get players of absolute top quality in January I'm sure we can find players that can work their arses off & improve us as a result.

Which is so fucking frustrating! All it takes is an ounce of effort, people on the shittiest of jobs working minimum wage would put these cunts to shame.

I've never really bought into Liverpool players 'not trying' or being lazy. There's been a few isolated incidents like Torres, Sterling and Mascherano who seemed to be sulking and moping because they wanted to leave, but it's not typical. You certainly would never get what happens regularly at Chelsea, or at least not so overt.

And in our last three games, I'm not sure it's been the players' attitude or work rate that's been a problem (although Coutinho certainly didn't seem his usual self against Watford). Perhaps I'm naive. But I don't think you could look at a player like Lucas and ever accuse him of not caring, or being lazy, or not trying.

He's just not very good. And that's the big issue, really. It's not attitude or commitment, it's simple quality and ability.

Really top quality players do not have them sort of collective 'off day' that we have seen on four or five occasions already this season. Their form may drop to good or even average in isolated games, but never to the comedic depths that were sank to yesterday. You cannot rely on such players, which is why Lucas, Firmino, Lallana, Sakho, Lovren, Origi, Bogdan et al should not be first team regulars ever. They are not good enough because too often they will play so appallingly, that teams like Watford, West Brom, and Newcastle can score 7 goals against you, and you take one point out of nine against poor opposition.

That's our biggest problem

I doubt most of them deliberately hold back, but subconsciously they do. This isn't their physical limits we're seeing. But aside from the lack of effort it's the stupidity. Take Sakho, in the middle of our half, attempting not one but two drag backs at full stretch whilst off balance. I mean, who the hell else would think that was a good idea, even when bossing the other team, let alone when you're two down and under pressure. Time and again, basic game intelligence is missing. Apart from Hendo's crossfield passes to Moreno, the ball was repeatedly played where the space wasn't, long shots were favoured over passes to players in better positions, and the midfield was consistently outwitted by supposedly lesser players.

I would wrap all that up into 'not good enough'. Really top quality players aren't stupid, or careless or technically/ physically incapable of consistency.

And I didn't want to single out Sakho, a player I've never liked, for fear of being accused of bias, but since you brought him up, I can't recall a more comical, blundering display of almost offensively poor defensive play.

You're right about pass selection and how we consistently get it wrong. Since the Man City game the players have tried to be too clever for their own good and it's only really come off against Southampton. Too many times we have players in good positions or decent positions only for the player on the ball to attempt a pass that Platini at his best would shy away from. Inevitably possession is wasted.
Got to say , our strikers really do feed on scraps most of the time and even though I've been generally disappointed in Benteke he hasn't been given the type of service that he needs to do well. Our delivery from wide positions is pitiful whether it's the full backs crossing or anyone else. That goes for our set piece delivery as well which is atrocious. It's frustrating when we have Benteke or Origi in the middle and our genius players put the ball in at shin height. You've got to play to yo're teammates strengths rather than expect their weaknesses to suddenly disappear.

It will only be a matter of time when someone will come along to compare Brendan's record with Klopp and argue that Brendan's team did not get beat so easily as Klopp's. And he will question Klopp and eventually call for his sacking.

#anticipation

What? Everyone is pleased we have Klopp and not Rodgers. Klopp's a better manager.

But why shouldn't comparisons be made? There should be *some* discernible improvement, even before Klopp makes his own transfer decisions.

I think this squad is certainly better than 9th place, regardless of the manager

Yes. I think, given our personnel, the wide players would be much better advised to cut inside and run diagonally into the edge of the area and pass the ball across from there, rather than hug the touchline and try to whip in a conventional cross. If we can't avoid the keeper and find our attackers with a long cross, then show some initiative and be more aggressive. Ibe, on form, is excellent at wrong-footing defenders, getting in the area and then slipping or blasting the ball across. With the players we've got, that's surely the more likely option to at least get a shot at the end of the move. The same with corners - take them short and change the angle, stop dollying them up for the keeper.
