If he had converted 50% of all of those gimmes he's absolutely fluffed this season, he'd be on what, a dozen prem goals?

He'd also be one hell of player- does anyone think he can make that transformation this season, it'll be the difference between 4th & 5th I think

Not this season. Next year though

He's on the right trajectory ... People who said he'd be like Lampard - I thought they were mull. However, he gets into excellent positions continuously ... Maybe it will just 'click' for him sooner or later ... and if it does, wowzers.

No chance he will ever be like Lamps, different players. Lamps has been a goal machine from midfield.

That said he like Courtinho/Sterling should be aiming for 10 goals a season

I think he is fantastic really other than his finishing which is muck. He offers a lot in terms of pressing up the pitch, is involved in the short passing interplay, has a decent range of passing, amazing cardio and finds good positions. Just cannot find the back of the net. If he does we will have one hell of a midfielder.

He'll never be that free goalscoring midfielder that Lampard has been, but Fwank didnt reach double figures in the league until he was 25. Henderson could score 8ish goals in the league pr season in the fututre I feel, which is great return for someone who doesnt take penalties.

He's fast becoming one of my favourite players. Hard working, obviously loves the club and becoming an integral part of the team.
Still young but if we ship Agger out, I'd assume Suarez would then take vice captaincy duties and I'd like to see Henderson as third in line. He's a leader out there.

The thing about Henderson is that, no matter who the opponent is, and how we were playing, you could count on him to not be complacent and have a sense of urgency and direction in his play. We were dog shit in patches yesterday and I think it says something as I was hoping at times that he'd get the ball instead of someone else in midfield.

Lucas used to get praise for being hardworking etc, but he's nowhere the level of commitment that Henderson puts in nowadays.

Why are people saying he will never be a goalscoring cm?

Suarez has shown how much ones finishing can transform over the course of a year.

So have numerous other less godly players in recent seasons

Ha ha Lamps.

As for Henderson I've thought for sometime he is our best midfielder and I can only see him growing.

Agree completely.

He does EVERYTHING that he should except the actual shot. That is the easiest thing to coach.

He'll start banging them in, either the latter part of the season or the next.

if he can add 10 goals a season, which he capable of through his workrate and positioning, he could become a transformational player. he gets in the right positions, his execution needs working on though.

Scoring goals is that hardest thing to do, and coaching can only get you so far. It's true that he's getting himself into good positions, but time will tell if he will tell. He's still only got one goal this season, and he has to improve massively on that.

Yep, if you watch Lampard's finishes, alot of the time it's instinctive stuff, that's something you can't teach. Henderson makes the runs, but the end product/touch is too erratic.

All our midfield need shooting practice. Coutinho needs some ice in his veins when he gets in front of goal too.

It'll come with practice and from what we know about Henderson, at least, he'll be working hard at it.

Coutinho can't shoot.

Coutinho can't shoot.

I like that he is trying. He clearly is not content with being just a playmaker, he is an ambitious lad, our Philippe, and wants to be like Kaka or Ronaldinho, a player who decides the outcome of games by himself, not just aids his teammates. With his excellent all-around technique, he should be able to become a much better shooter and scorer, if he puts his mind to it. And when he does make that improvement, our team will benefit immensely by having another big game, decisive player alongside Suarez.

Our gripes with refereeing should not obscure the fact that Chelsea and City exposed our big attacking weakness – we have no true goalscorers outside of Suarez and Sturridge. When a world class team and manager deploy a defensive shield, you need a special kind of armour to pierce it and even one world-class weapon is not enough. If everything goes according to plan, we hold on to Suarez, and Coutinho and Henderson dramatically improve their goal-scoring efficiency, we might just have a team ready to win Champions League AND the EPL title in a couple of years - yes, for real.

At this point Coutinho is still struggling to hit the target in a game situation, even though I'm sure in training he scores loads. The only way to find a shooting touch is to keep trying it in games. So far, I don't think we have lost points because of Coutinho' target practice during a game; he usually does it when we are leading by a couple of goals. I'm sure the breakthrough will come at some point, maybe even later this season or the next.

Suarez couldn't hit a barn door with a tractor at one stage...

Yes, good point. We all used to complain that he was overcomplicating things in front of goal and being too selfish to the determent of the team. Now it seems like a distant memory.

This is something I discussed with @doctor_mac at Drinkies - that Hendo has for a while now constantly been getting himself in the box and into great scoring positions and is either overlooked by the likes of Suarez/ Studge who maybe didn't trust him to finish, or fluffs the chance. As his confidence grows he is going to keep getting into these positions and once he scores one or two, he will start being picked out more and more by his team mates.

If you can thread a pass through the eye of a needle like Mr Coutinho you have every facility to score.
It's just a question of nerves and practice.

I remember a goal that Henderson scored for Sunderland that really made me sit up.

It was a real 'Captain Gerrard' goal. One of those where nothing really falls in place for you; you just decide that you WILL score and make it happen.
