Ian Rush is celebrating his 54th birthday today.
One of the greatest goal scorers to pull on the red shirt. A true legend!

Happy Birthday!

Wonderful player - incredible work rate, great instinct for what space to attack, and the best passer of a ball into the net I've ever seen. I must admit I never stop being bemused by his status now as one of the club's trusted advisors - he never seemed that bright, let alone articulate, off the field, but good luck to him. The work he does as an ambassador is quite phenomenal, too. A true legend.

I remember some choice comments in Stockport in 1989 when I parked my campervan off the A6 with my 'Rushie is back' sticker in the back window that I bought in the old club shop.
Also an away with my old man at Stoke when he scored an absolute belter in the last minute for another one-nil win. Quite simply the best in the world at height of his game. If he'd been English he would still be talked about as such.
One of the greats. Happy birthday Tosh.

It seems almost unfair that we had Rushie and the King playing up top together. Almost. 😉 Talk about a match made in Heaven.

Happy Birthday boyo.

Quite simple the best goal scorer I've seen play. His instinct was amazing. He improved with age and he came back from injuries too.

I loved Fowler as a finisher but Rushie, for his sheer endurance, tops out for me.

That hat trick v Villa on an ice rink on a Friday night was pure class.

Goals in European ties v Benfica, Dinamo Bucharest, Panathaniakos amongst many were pivotal in our success in Europe.

Then there's his goals against Everton. Plus the cup final goals.

My first game at Anfield saw Rush score a hat trick in a 4-3 win. Happy memories!

I don't think he improved with age. He was never quite as good after his brief sojourn in that foreign country.

That might have been due to many factors - team not as good, no Kenny etc etc, but Rush's machine-like goal prowess was at its peak pre-Juve.
