Georginio Wijnaldum - confirmed

The Geordies seem very adamant he only bothered in home matches. I hope we've do e our homework on him. The fee is reasonable bit it's by no means small so there will be pressure on him to perform.

The talent is certainly there but whether he had the mentality for Klopps high intensity football is questionable. Fingers crossed he can adapt and become a brilliant player for us.

Lallana and Firmino should both be fearing for game time.

Sweet. Very happy with this signing. i don't give a fuck about price of players as they are nuts everywhere - he is a player who I think will do it for us in the PL. We now have an armada of attacking mids who will gengenpress the fuck out of the opposition. Just need to ensure Studge/ Ings/ Origi convert the chances. Happy that Mane and Wijnaldum are both proven to be able to add to that team goal tally.

Firmino, Coutinho, Mane, Lallana, Wijnaldum. Boom.

With AMs who are more capable of scoring, I wouldnt be surprised to see Firmino given more starts at CF.

His away performances has as much to do with Newcastle I imagine.
He scored loads of goals away for PSV

Lallana and Firmino already have Mane to worry about.

I suspect that Wijnaldum could also play a little deeper and put pressure on Henderson and Milner also.

I don't agree. I wish I did, because if he had Kuyt's consistency, workrate and diligence defensively, he'd be worth £50m.

He's much, much quicker, but I do recall watching him thinking he was great when things are all going well (hence his goals coming in "lumps"), but didn't seem to do anything defensively, and his head certainly dropped when things started to unravel. Which is why Benitez dropped him.

He's actually the exact opposite of Kuyt in many ways.

He was captain of PSV for a reason though? He must have some leadership qualities.

Anyways, we'll know more about his mentality with better players around him. Hopefully he steps up. I do like the idea of adding more goals in the side.

With Mane (10-15), Wijnidaldum (8-12), Firmino (10-15), Countino (8-12), Sturridge (15-25), there's enough goals in them to fire us to a top 3 finish.

Plus both Matip and Ragnar have a decent record at chipping a few in each year from CB. I have done the maths and calculated we will score about 150 goals next season.

Well, that's what I'm hoping. Of course, quite often a player is made Captain not because of his leadership qualities, but because they want him to stay a bit longer and think that will help. But he was also voted Dutch player of the season before he left, after winning the title.

I'm hopeful that descriptions of him as having "a heart the size of a pea", not scoring once away from home, and also getting dropped as they were relegated, are nothing to worry about.

As I said earlier - for whatever it's worth - in their pre-season friendlies their fans were chanting for him to stay and Sissoko to fuck off.

I hope the Whoscored summary of him is wrong then.

My Newcastle supporting mate just texted me to tell me that we've overpaid and he isnt as a good as our existing midfielders.

When taken into consideration with the 6 or 7 times ive watched him play and been unimpressed I'm hughly optimistic about this signing.

You've never been impressed with him? Did you watch our game against them last season away?

Asians are quick learners, good at maths and work hard. Maybe one of those lads on the wing?

Wasn't Nunez a qualified accountant or lawyer when he played for us? Being good with figures was no help to him anyway, we might as well have had Peter Hague out there on the wing.

Jack Lusby.

That Firmino has been regularly utilised as Klopp’s No. 9 throughout pre-season so far, despite Danny Ings‘ availability, suggests the former Hoffenheim star is a viable option up front this season.

Deputising in this focal role in 2015/16, Firmino scored six goals and laid on a further five in 11 appearances, highlighting his value.

Though he is likely to revert to his natural role behind the striker when Origi and Daniel Sturridge are available, his appearances throughout pre-season indicate he is now third choice.

Ings’ industry, technical quality and intelligent movement will prove useful throughout 2016/17, but the 23-year-old looks set to play a squad role.

Wanna crunch your numbers again because I got 160 goals?

Surely Newcastle's fault/tactics. His record for PSV in his last season there was 5 goals 2 assists at home and 9 goals 1 assist away (plus 2 goals away, zero at home, in the EL).

Liverpool are on the verge of finalising a move for Newcastle’s Georginio Wijnaldum, with the clubs agreeing a £25m fee. The Dutch midfielder will head to America to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms, although these are not expected to stop a deal with the 25-year-old obviously keen to leave the Championship and join us instead.
This is according to respected outlets such as Sky Sports and Paul Joyce in the Express, and we expect the announcement before the end of the week.

But what exactly is Wijnaldum going to offer us? Reds know him from his four-goal salvo versus Norwich, and note his versatility in that he can play centrally or from the flank. His goalscoring record in Holland is also excellent, and Rafa Benitez has waxed lyrical in regards to his ability.

To find out more, we asked Lee Ryder, the chief sports writer at the Newcastle Chronicle and someone who will have seen every match Wijnaldum’s played in England.
This guy is Newcastle’s answer to James Pearce, so he knows his stuff!
You can follow @lee_ryder on Twitter, and check out the Chronicle, here.
Here’s what he had to say.
“Let’s get this straight, Gini Wijnaldum is a fine technical footballer on his day and he can be a match winner when he is in the mood,” he began.
“He started off quite well last season after making a £14.5million move from PSV Eindhoven to Tyneside.
“But with the team being in a poor state after some bad moves in the summer window, Wijnaldum was expected to lead the charge for survival.
“He did so at first and when he bagged four goals against Norwich, United fans thought they had a real star on their hands.
“As Liverpool fans will know, he also done it against the Reds with a brace in a 2-0 at St James’ Park.
“Sadly that was as good as it got.
“He didn’t perform well in the second half of the season and he was very poor away from home.
“It was as if he could not take on all the responsibility of carrying the team by himself and disappeared when Newcastle needed him the most.
“That’s not a slight on him it’s just there weren’t enough good players around him.
“Although, some Newcastle fans do think that the lack of contribution from Wijnaldum and Moussa Sissoko, the club’s most talented players, was a huge factor in going down.
“Things got very bad for Wijnaldum at one point when Steve McClaren considered relegating him to the reserves shortly before being sacked.
“And Liverpool fans should know that even Rafa Benitez could not coax a performance out of him during his early games in charge before he consequently dropped Wijnaldum.
“His two goals against Spurs on the last day of the season took his tally to a flattering 11 goals for the campaign.
“It was a taste of what Wijnaldum can do when the pressure is off.
“Given Liverpool have a lot of talent to put around him that might work in Wijnaldum’s favour.
“Gini is a good player but has a lot to learn about the Premier League.”

Ryder’s report suggests Wijnaldum is a player of immense talent, but one that struggled in a team surrounded by average footballers. At Liverpool, he’ll be surrounded by excellent footballers, but we’ll still need him to show more fight than he did at times with the Toon.
Wijnaldum will be working under just as much pressure at Liverpool, and we hope that with the guidance of Jurgen Klopp (who obviously rates him very highly), he’ll be able to improve on his debut Premier League season – which still delivered 11 goals – despite his inconsistencies.
The price-tag is steep, but we recouped virtually all the £25m on Jordon Ibe, Jerome Sinclair and Sergi Canos, so when you think about it like that – the deal looks less of a gamble.

Im actually dead excited by this signing.
Could be a great one for us.
Him and Mane are big time upgrades and I guess thats really all you want. Identify weak links and replace them with better.
My biggest fear is still Sturridge fitness.
If we ship out Benteke and Balotelli for say 40m we need to throw that at a top striker.

Mane upgrade on Lallana and/or firmino

Who is Wijnaldum the upgrade on?

Either I think? Mane has so much pace, one thing I think we lack badly.
Wijnaldum would be an upgrade on any of our CM really excluding Milner probably and Can under his current development.

I love the pace these two would bring to our side.
Pace and goal threat. The anti-allen if you will.

Sour grapes. I texted my Real Madrid supporting mate that Alonso was overpriced and done. I texted my Barca supporting mate that Suarez was a liability and would be chased out of the Nou Camp in a season.
