Yep, off.

As I said earlier, hardly surprising. Good timing from the club really, most away fans wont have travelled yet.

How bad is it really? A couple of weeks ago it was a couple of foot deep here (between Leeds and York) and incredibly difficult to get about - family are supposed to be travelling across from Liverpool today, and the missus is working in a Knowsley lab at the start of the week - safe to travel?

Well I'm gutted.

Not as gutted as my little brother, who came all the way up to Manchester from Hastings for the match. Nightmare.

Hope its rearranged for a decent time/date.

Probably not, more than likely 8pm on a Tuesday night in February, unless Fulham get beaten by Peterborough.

Not for me though; I'd have definitely been caught out.

Got a bit lucky there.

It's an hour away from kickoff in the Sunderland v Bolton 12.45 fixture and there is no news yet of that being called off.

The weather on the East Coast has been terrible for a week or so, much worse than Merseyside, so I wonder what they are doing right, or maybe their coppers are more amenable to risk-taking?

Listening to the radio it's cos their streets were cleared last night & there hasnt been snow since. We had more snow this morning & there isnt time to clear the streets properly again. The pitch wouldve been playable apparently.

I think it's the speed that the weather came into Merseyside, whereas it's generally been crap in the north east for a month! Don't envy the Bolton fans travelling though.

As Wilko says, we'd have played this game in the 70's and 80's, prior to the undersoil heating - it's all the worry about fans slipping on their way to the game, as if grips on shoes have gone out of fashion in the last 20 years! I remember being three up against Luton in the 80's, we couldn't see the other half from the kop due to the snow, and asking Brucie what the score was - he was so under used he had the time to write it in ten foot numbers in the snow!

Bring back the orange ball and get the fucking game on!

Some games were called off in the good old days, though! For example the second leg European Cup tie between Liverpool and Cologne in 1965:

"The second leg was set for 3rd March, a date that was later described by Chief Inspector Ian Thompson of Merseyside Police as the most chaotic night that he had ever witnessed at Anfield. A snowstorm before kick-off led to Danish referee Frede Hansen postponing the match shortly before the teams were due to take to the field. But with the club having been caught unawares, fans paying cash at the turnstiles were not given postponed match vouchers on their way in. As a result they had to be given out to fans as they left the ground, but with the turnstiles not being reversible the delays were huge as people had to jump over one by one.

Many fans amused themselves during the long wait to get out by staging impromptu snowball fights and ice-skating competitions on the pitch. Others gave marks to the ice skaters by holding up the numbers that were usually used on the half time scoreboard. Nobody wanted to leave without their voucher for the re-match, meaning the ground did not empty till after 1am. With tickets for the following Saturday's FA Cup tie at Leicester going on sale the next morning, many then went straight to the ticket office to begin queuing."

I remember queuing up in the snow along Kemlyn Road to get into the Kop on that night. The crush was so bad that a brick wall on one side of the road collapsed.

Bloody hell!

You're old!

Two of my mates are in Liverpool and were supposed to go to the game. They're gobsmacked that the game has been called off. Strange that England just stops functioning with a bit of snow. Are people really that bad at driving? Its what you're used to I guess. And we're used to snow over here..

We got heavy snow so rarely we don't need to incur the expense of winter tyres and snow chains. Nor do we have a civic approach to snow clearing - the local councils are only responsible for clearing main roads and don't distribute grit/salt widely as, generally, we don't need it

I was on a flight from Dublin last night, the 9.45. Ended up flying at 11.30 and was redirected to East Midlands. Got to Liverpool at 5 am. The vast majority of those that stuck it out did so because they were coming to this game. I'm chuckling inside.

Anyways, I had a great time. Bought loads of whisky and met a gorgeous riverdance type bird, still drunk to be honest

Why are you chuckling inside, Crump? Is it because these lads who went to such lengths to watch Liverpool have had a wasted journey?

Nice to see you taking the positives, crump! ;D

Indeed. Thank you sir.

Yeah, kind of. I mean we had a fucking laugh riot. You had to be there. And also because I'm in bed with a bottle of wine and still thinking about pooing myself in the presence of a glamour model.
