Stop Gerrard from taking corners and put him where he should be - in the danger area, in or just outside the box. 6' 2" of world class midfielder / striker should not be stuck out there taking shite corners !

This has been a bugbear of mine for years and still this wastefulness (in both regards) continues.

We've no one in the team that can take a consistent corner mate, and Gerrard usually hits a decent dead ball.

I find it really odd, as none of the professional footballers at our club can manage to get ball to land in the 6yard box from a corner, it's bizarre. Even I can do that probably 50% of the time, we're lucky to do it 1 in 10.

Aurelio left foot and Aquilani right foot.

Sadly there is a problem with this at the moment...

Aurellio is one one of the better ones but he's fucking inconsistent at best. No one at the club that can do it currently. Maybe Aquaman, but from what I've seen of him he's not a set piece specialist.

Even Lucas takes as good a corner as Gerrard ! I'm sure others can too - Johnson for one. It doesn't even have to be better - but we sure as hell would be a much bigger threat (and see Torres receiving less attention) if Gerrard were in the middle !

Insua

Yep. Sorted.

Insua or Aurelio for the left and Johnson for the right. Now SG can move back to where he bloody well should be.

I've been saying this for YEARS.

It's infuriating.

I think most people have, the main debate is whether he should be in the box trying to head it or outside the box waiting to volley it. I would personally prefer him to be outside the box but either is preferable to him taking the corners. Sadly for the last few years Xabi seemed to be second choice for corners and he has an the amazing ability to hit the corner straight to the first defender almost every time, making Gerrards corner taking skills look better by comparrission. So hopefully Aquaman gets a shot at taking them as if memory serves me correctly he is good at set pieces.

and you, and the rest of us who still can't believe Gerrard takes corners, will continue to say it until he retires - which is when he'll stop taking corners.

What's even worst SG is a good header of the ball!!!

Wasted!!!

Yep, 6'1" & great at heading, also so, so dangerous just outside the box, & drags at least one defender out of teh danger area to mark him.

As LTW says though, I doubt it'll ever change.

I wouldn't mind if Lucas took all of our corners when Aurelio/Aquilani are not available. Gerrard would be menacing from corners whether he chooses to position himself inside or outside the box. But not when he's at the corner flag...

Another advantage of not having Stevie take them is that he could switch between inside and outside the box to receive them, leaving opposition teams stumped over what to do about marking him. The law should have been laid down to him about this years ago. Unfortunately it almost certainly is too late to change now.

Lucas is a great shout IMO. He should be given some chances as I also think Gerrard can be a massive threat in the box.

Xabi took an even worse corner than Gerrad if I remember correctly.

I'm quite excited to see how Aquilani will do as a set piece taker.

You know what's funny? I watched Real vs. Deportivo game yesterday and Xabi was taking almost all corners and indirect FKs for Madrid - and I thought he actually wasn't bad at it. I don't know if it's a case of grass being greener on the other side or maybe it was Rafa the madman who instructed Xabi to hit the first defender every time he took a corner. "- Xabi, you hit a defender 99 times, maybe 100th time they score an own goal, no?" "- OK, boss, I'll do as you say."

I was thinking the same thing.

I actually thought he was much better than 'not bad'.

Maybe the pitches there are narrower so its a little easier to clear the first defender 😛
