I started hating him cos I knew he was gonna leave cos he played like a brat who couldn't be bothered. And it infuriated me when people made excuses for him about poor service etc, when in actual fact it was blatantly clear that he was making no effort whatso ever

...and he had poor service

oh, I totally recognise torres had turned into a lazy arse a stark contrast to the workhorse of his debut season but the way hodgeson attempted to turn torres into heskey, hoof the ball up to him with his team mates 20 yards behind him would have sucked the motivation out of even the most agricultural of strikers.

I've a Spain top with his name on the back I bought while in Nerja last year. I haven't worn it since January but I can't bring myself to giving it to someone....

Mine went to the charity shop.

Although I'm left with the lingering feeling that I have made some poor disadvantaged youngster's life a bit worse.

I'm as happy to blame Hodgson for things as anyone else is but to be fair the rot set in with Torres before he showed up.

I suspect what pissed him off was being at a club for 3 years with cunty tight arse owners, winning nothing, not even being in the Champions League while all his mates in Spain were at clubs who actually won trophies.

I'm also inclined to agree with Anita that he may have thought the chance to go might not come again so he had to take it while he could (as it happens I suspect this was also the case with Owen, but that is another story).
He probably did think about hanging on and seeing what happened with Kenny and the new owners but had to make the call in the end. I hope he now thinks that he made the wrong one.

I shouldn't have watched this, he was just so good.

I'm sorry, but Suarez will never be the player Torres was in that season and that's exactly why we needed them both together.

It's such a shame how he's fallen, all due to his selfish intentions, he was set for life here if he wanted it, such a fool.

Just because of some of the things he did whilst he was here, he'll always be welcome back in my eyes.

Sorry mate, but that's piffle. Suarez will never be the goalscorer Torres was then, but Torres has never had and will never develop Suarez' all-round game.

Torres Goals: ALL COMPETITIONS
2011-12 Scored Scored 02 (Luis Suarez has 7 - Andy Carrol has 3)
2010-11 Scored 10 (including for Chelsea) Kuyt has 15 Rodrigues 10 and Gerrard has 8
2009-10 Scored 22 (Gerrard 2nd with 12)
2008-9 Scored 17 (Gerrard was top with 24)
2007-8 Scored 33 (Gerrard 2nd with 21)

I'd like to suggest fuck Torres and hope Gerrard comes back.......

It's not, Torres in that season was the best striker in the world. I don't think Suarez will ever reach that height. This isn't knocking Suarez, this is just praising how good Torres was, I think we all forget sometimes because of how it ended.

Liverpool make Strikers Suarez Torres Fowler Collymore Rush Aldridge, we are geared towards them scoring, FFS even Hesky got 22 in 2000-01 with us, Carrol will be next to do good.

Yep...lots of people seem to happily overlook the fact that Torres was supported very ably by Gerrard when he was here and he hasn't worked quite as well with any one else in Football......not even the decorated Xabi/Xavi midfield has managed to make him look as good as Gerrard does.

Same goes for Crouchie Crouch, Baros (who has plummeted to new levels of crapness since leaving us) and St Mike.

We have some idiots who bring out the three games Gerrard has played this season and say, Statistically (fuckwits), that we get better results without Gerrard....

I hope we get him back fine and dandy....we desperately need him.

Mystic - I don't buy it, mate. You're comparing apples and oranges here. The two of them are different players with different skills who do different jobs in the team: Torres as an out-and-out goalscorer, Suarez as a no.7 whose job is (in Shanks' words to Keegan one time) to "go out there and drop grenades all over the place". Torres would no more be in Suarez' class in that role than Suarez is (or would ever claim to be) in Torres' class - when he was at his best anyway - as a main goalscorer.

My little's girls only 3 and doesn't know who Torres is and what the bad man did. But I weep for the other children who had their shirts ripped from their back on transfer deadline day and looked out of their bedroom windows to see their dads sobbing bitterly, as they burned effigies of Torres in the back garden. Do we really want to put them through that again?

I loved him. Like really loved him.

Have to say, though, Ross (I think) called it a while back, saying everything he had said about us was a PR exercise by his own PR team.

I'd love to know what happened those last few days. I think some of the mods know, but vowed never to say what happened.
[/quote]

We ALL loved him... he was a magic player, a player to lord over any other at the time in England. A passable impression of the best striker in the league, in fact in the world...

He was ambitious and got his head turned.

I loved him too much to hate him now tbh, I dont think he would have gone to Chesea if it wasnt for GnH at the end but.... he went.... Im sorry that such a genuine love affair ended the way it did but...

Three words sum him up for me:

Hamstrings
Greed
regret

I only wish him ill because of where he is not because of who he is.... he made me very happy while he was here.... that goal against Arsenal in the quarters of the CL was just pure football joy.... its a shame that in ten years we wont be able to claim him as one of us.

Torres,mascherano,alonso,arbeloa,suarez,gerrard.. If only things had been held together...

Somewhere in an alternate universe were bossing the league

I heard it was 275k and that it was a massive problem for E'BJT, because he always has to be highest paid and the bosses said "nay".

thank you Dr M

Hardcastle - what a team that would have been with everyone fit and at their peak, Not sure how you would integrate Torres and suarez with a three man central midfield behind them but it would be fun finding out!
