AYRE: ...And then I moved to Hong Kong, where, if I may blow me own trumpet for a second, I pulled off some cracking commercial deals, including a link-up with Mr Chow's Noodles that the MD of Horbert's Tyres declared was the best piece of business he'd witnessed in 30 years. Then-
BORINI: Yeah, great, er, is the manager around?

AYRE: Ha ha ha! Yeah, Brendan's about somewhere or other. You'll meet him soon. I'm sort of his adviser. Actually I pretty much pick the team and sort out the tactics. Everything. I think I'm going for a diamond formation this time-
BORINI: PLEASE let me meet the manager!
AYRE: Ha ha ha!

I can't get over a grown man wearing a fucking business shirt with someone's name on it. What a massive shitheel.

Fuck me, I hadn't realised that's what Ryan had referenced.

That's appalling. Every one I know who has been met him has described him as a bellend. I begin to see why.

Personally, I can never get over just how thick Ian Ayre sounds. It's quite a thought that he's our answer to someone like Daniel Levy, with his first class Cambridge degree and pure Jewish ancestry.

Had an encouraging reply to my query about Borini to a cousin in Malta who follows Italian football closely (gets to some Juve home games) and is usually pretty snide about English football, so I wouldn't expect him to sugar-coat things:

"Very surprised that Roma sold him for so little considering they spent nearly 10 million to fully own him just 3 weeks ago.

Still, Liverpool's gain, I suppose. Has an eye for goal as his tally of nine in 20 Serie A games proves. Is a good finisher who is more than capable of playing as an orthodox striker that can live on crosses despite only being 5'11".

Enjoyed a superb season under Luis Enrique where play tended to always come centrally rather than out wide & proved he can be deployed deeper towards midfield in order to exploit his pace & ability to time his runs into space. More than capable of playing in a trio with Carroll & Suarez to give Liverpool a varied & tough to match attacking trio".

From the sounds of it, it looks like we have found Dirk's younger replacement. Those are big shoes to step in. In terms of ability Kuyt had many shortfalls such as his lack of pace and inconsistent touch, but in terms of application and desire to win he was spot on every single time he stepped on to play football for Liverpool.

Lives off crosses?

Hmmm, a player that is trouble in the air alongside Carroll with loads of fast movement around them?

That could drag defenders all over.

*excited*

I think it bodes well that Rodgers said this:
'He is arguably the best physical player I've worked with in terms of his pace, power and fitness.'
I'm going to make a sweeping statement and assume he's technically good too, so we might have a half-decent player on our hands here.

Here's a thought. If we're going to be stuck with Aqui-feckin-lani, might the fact that we've now signed someone else from Roma make the poor little diddums feel a little bit less homesick and a little more able to give it some welly on the pitch?

That's what I was thinking yesterday, sort of synergistic benefits for the club. Strange how one signing can create so much buzz and excitement and potentially lift the performance levels of others often considered deadwood, yet he hasn't even played 50 professional games.

It's funny how the hacks inflate each deal so as to prepare for another 'mammoth LFC spending' story someway down the line. According to today's papers Borini cost £11.5m, £12m or even £14m.
