Their home league record this season is;

W 1
D 6
L 5
F 9
A 16

Given tonight's crucial win at Villa and the effort exerted, how should we approach this game?

I favour resting Torres for the Spurs game at Anfield on Jan 10th. Perhaps Gerrard too. They can be subs. Give Ngog a run-out.

Yes maybe start with them on the bench but still have a strong team out, the FA cup loves an upset.. just ask RB.

Go win it. It's a trophy after all.

That's a vote for the strongest side available no matter what, I take it.

No fucking around, mo.men.tum is key to us turning this season around. We go and fuck this up we can kiss fourth goodbye.
Build on back to back wins with a stomping off Reading no half measures.
Reina
dossena
skrtel
agger
degen
Lucas
aquilani
riera
gerrard
kuyt
torres.

Torres should be rested if reports about him carrying an injury are true. N'Gog has shown that he can put away chances if he gets a bit of service.

-------------------- Reina
Johnson ---- Skrtel --- Agger ---- Aurelio
Degen ------ Lucas --- Gerrard --- Babel
------------------- Yossi
------------------- N'Gog

Ideally, Gerrard would get a rest as well, but we've got no-one else.

I'd like to see Pacheco get a good 30 minutes as well... can anyone see him getting a start?
I don't think Johnson will make it. You're right about ngog though, he can lead the line.

Cavalieri
Degen
Skrtel
Agger
Aurelio
Kuyt
Lucas
Spearing
Yossi
Gerrard
N'gog

Pacheco on the bench, hopefully.

If Johnson is out:

-------------------- Reina
Degen ---- Skrtel --- Agger ---- Aurelio
Yossi ---- Lucas --- Gerrard --- Dossena
-------------- N'Gog --- Babel

Kuyt will probably start up front with Babel on the left though. Maybe it'd be a good game for Kuyt to regain a bit of form, who knows.

---------------------Reina
Degen------Skrtel-----Agger---Aurelio
El Zhar----Aquilani---Spearing--Babel
-------------------Pacheco
---------------------Ngog

I'd like to rest some of the more important players like Stevie, Carra and Torres but Aquilani needs a chance to find some form so I'd start him and take him off after 60/70 if hes doing well. Also a chance for Babel to show he isnt completely useless and Spearing will want to put in a performance whilst Mascher is out.

Magic looks fucked. I fear he may be out for2-3 weeks. So Hacksaw is a must.

No Gerrard or Torres please, anything else I don't really gives two fucks about.*

*seriously, bite my fucking arsehole

------------------ Reina

Degen ---- Skrtel --- Agger ---- Aurelio

----------- Lucas --- Aquilani

Pacheco------- Yossi -------- Babel

------------------ Kuyt

That should be more than good enough to account for Reading. A perfect match for Pacheco to start, his confidence and skill should be too much for Reading and give him a huge boost. SG and Torres on the bench to come on after 60 mins if needed.

Hacksaw Jim 'Degen' 😉

Sacked their manager, poor home form, greatly weakened squad - even compared to last season. Not too sure about starting AA though. Think he will be rested. Will be nice to see Pacheco start.

I agree as regards Pacheco.
I think Aqualani needs games - and lots of them

Given that the FA Cup is one of only two trophies we can win this season, I would start with our strongest available side. If Torres's injury means he needs to rest, fair enough. But resting all our best players is a recipe for disaster: form means fuck-all in the third round of the Cup. This is also a chance for our attacking players to gain some much-needed confidence by scoring goals against a weaker defence than they normally face. I'd go 442 and see how Gerrard and Aquilani look together in CM. I'd also start Pacheco and see how he does.

Reina

Degen - Carra - Skrtel - Aurelio

Yossi - Gerrard - Aquilani - Pacheco

Kuyt - Wash

doubt Pacheco will start as we want to win the cup and with senior players so I expect a strong side with maybe only Torres rested but on the bench

Maybe kelly deserves a start? He has played well when given the opportunity before
He's still injured.

Re Rebel, I picked Pacheco because a) he deserves a chance; and b) the alternatives (Dossena, Aurelio, Babel) aren't exactly stunning. Do you honestly think his presence would weaken our side?

I think the only question is do we go two up top or not - given it is away I think Raqfa will go with 'not'.

rested = Reina, Carra, Flossy
Protected = Torres
Suspended = Mascher
Injured = Johnson, Riera (?)

So:

Cavalry

Degen Skittles Agger Aurelio

Lucas Aquialini

Kuyt Gerrard Babel (Riera?)

Ngog

I'd start Ngog ahead of Kuyt otherwise it's a really exciting line-up that.

Does this game mean that Masher will be available for selection come Spurs?

Don't think so - he got a 4 game ban, no?

From the Beeb

"Javier Mascherano will use his four-match ban to recover from a knee injury after Liverpool confirmed that he has a medial ligament sprain.

The midfielder injured himself and was then red-carded following a reckless challenge on Portsmouth's Tal Ben-Haim in the 2-0 defeat at Fratton Park.

He will miss the games against Wolves, Aston Villa, the FA Cup tie with Reading, and Tottenham on 10 January.

But club officials suspect he would have been out for that long anyway.

"The player had a scan which confirmed the medical team's initial diagnosis that he suffered a medial ligament sprain in his left knee," a club spokesman told Liverpool's website.

The Argentina captain was handed an automatic four-game ban because he had already served a suspension this season. "

Just noticed that we've got eight days between this game and the Spurs match. That's plenty of recovery time, so unless they've got specific injury worries, all our best players should start.

After a long lay-off, maybe 3 games in a week would be a bit much to ask?
