He's class. Not once have I seen him outpaced, outstrengthed or outsmarted. Okay, I might be exaggerating, but I can't recall anybody even coming close to giving him the run around. He does hold onto it a bit, though, and a couple of times complacency has crept in. But, if he keeps up this form, we have a real player on our hands.

Distin ran around him yesterday tbf.

He's not mistake ridden, but i want to reserve judgement before i bum him silly.

Yeah but Distin was an absolute vegetable for our second goal so that cancels it out!

LOL, but i thought Johnson was great going forward? Our very own Cafu.

As for Enrique, he's actually been pretty reserved for us. He has plenty more to offer attacking wise.

Agree that he probably does hog the ball a little too much, but overall he's been great. Long may it continue.

Horrible game today from Enrique, might be his worst game in a red shirt.

Solely responsible for the goal and going forward....yeesh

Enrique is such a ball-stopper in attack, completely stops the interplay and movement and kills so many of our set-ups.

one more bad game in a row and I'd seriously consider playing aurelio. the guy (enrique) seems to have gone to pieces.

It is not like he has totally gone to shit but his total aversion to knocking the ball out of play or clearing it long was always likely to bite him in the arse at some point.
Yeah, Aurelio who does actually go to pieces.

If Aurelio is fit, it wouldn't be a bad idea to give Enrique a breather against Wolves. Hasn't he played every minute of every game this season? He could do with a bit of rest.
No he hasn't played every game.

In fact, he's been poor since he was last rested (Oldham I think).

Quite, I've been saying this for months and continually get told its not a problem, well it nearly knocked us out the cup today.

I like Enrique - a lot.

Yes he was relatively shite (for him) today, and against Bolton, but he is one of the few players we have who actually tries to attack and go past players, no matter the opposition, rather than knocking the ball around in our own half for 10 mins. He has incredible confidence/belief in his own ability (a plus) but that can bite back (and does occasionally) and unfortunately he often holds onto the ball too long (or tries to beat toooo many players) !

Bad mistake, and let's not over react to a couple of average games.
Anyone who suggests the possibility of bringing Aurellio back based on that wants their bumps feeling (that's a good offer Neil).

regards

The last few games he's been exasperating. I'm amazed Steve Clarke hasn't taken him aside and really worked with him to defend better and pass the bloody ball. Maybe he has, which is a bit worrying, because it's taking a while for the lessons to be learned. When Bellamy is on he gets such an ear battering he improves, but otherwise he seems in a bit of a dream.

I'm not overly concerned, the mistakes he's making are more down to him trying to be too clever, which can be easily ironed out. I thought he was a bit unlucky with the goal, it was a good flick in the build up which caught a few players off guard. Valencia gave him a bit of a torrid time though. He just needs to cut out the bullshit and sort out his issue with cutting out crosses, that's the biggest concern, Reina must be sick of bollocking him by now.

I'm not overly concerned either. I've been thinking that it might be due to him being knackered, I thought he looked particularly tired against Bolton.

Oh, and Aurelio is a fine player when fit. I wouldn't mind seeing him come in against Wolves, given that this would be our third game in a week.

Yes, I agree with that. There was one moment when he moved into their half, got close to the box, saw how congested it was and still tried to lob a ball over a defender's head towards a teammate with two defenders hanging on to his shirt. It was such a stupid waste of possession. But as you say, it's far easier to iron out than many other problems.

Just wanted to bump this because he was excellent today. Granted Wolves were poor, but he delt with everything that came his way and his upper body strength is amazing

People are far to quick to jump on band wagons around here, he had two or three average games and makes on hash of things and people were all over him.
Even when he has an average game, he is still probably better than any left back we have had for the best part of a generation.
Clearly a great bit of business.

x2

Exactly, when people complain about him, they really do come out with the most bizarre statements.

Riise was excellent for a long while, but faded badly towards the end. Not sure if that means he qualifies for 'great' or not.
