Endo

Dreambeliever

Will he believe again?

I think Endo deserves his own thread.

It was clear from the off that Slot didn’t appear to rate him and his days were numbered.

A severe lack of playing time and Gravy emergence as a superstar in the 6 seemed to spell the end for our loveable no 3.

What have seen shine through more than anything is his insane attitude and commitment to giving it absolutely everything, whether he’s on the pitch for 1 minute or 20 mins.

Each and everytime he’s come on he’s done something positively noteworthy and has even made such a strong impression that Slot has said in more than one press conference that the best possible attitude anyone could have is his and that’s he’s the shining example.

It feels like maybe just maybe the captain of Japan has won over Slot and will rightfully lift the PL.

He’s arguably my favourite player (sorry Salah) and there is a great life lesson in concentrating on only what you can control.

His attitude would be so impressive to be around if you are a young player coming through or a fringe squad player.

What a legend and a what masterful signing he’s turned out to be. I was excited about it at the time and couldn’t be happier for him.

A Schmadtke special!!!

I feel a bit sorry for him. I generally don't feel sorry for people with loads of dough doing what they love. But when he lifts the trophy in May I'll get goosebumps.
Yep, Japan will be fucking rocking that day!

Imagine getting the call at 30 after a Journeyman career that Liverpool want you!

He’s really a reincarnation of Milner, isn’t he? I mean the later career-stage Milner, not the swashbuckling younger version who was more talented and versatile than Endo, with all due respect. But in terms of professionalism and attitude, they are both top-notch. I always loved players like that.

Two very different players, even the old version of Milner.

Here’s a provocative question - why do same people who love Endo also hated Lucas? Given that they both do roughly the same job - amble around the pitch, tackle people and at times give away unnecesary free-kicks.

Is it because Lucas played in a worse team and his flaws were magnified?

But same exact role - Milner was our “closer” late in his career under Klopp. When you need to hold a 1-2 goal lead and make sure nobody does anything stupid, thise are the guys you bring on for the last few minutes.

Milner was a lot of things, closer, leader, penalty taker, set piece taker and more.
Milner had a lot more to his game than Endo.

I loved Lucas but maybe I’m the exception.

I would say Endo is a much better footballer and is captain of his national side.

Add the fact he hasn't played over 300 games over 10 years, starting a bucket load in an underperforming team era where his mere presence was a reminder our team was nowhere near good enough to challenge means Endo isn’t like him at all.

Then you have the grin and incessant fouls on the edge of our own box and you get a picture of why Lucas was hated by many.

Endo has also scored more in 15% as many games.

Lastly I think for any it was triggering that Lucas was labeled as some sort of amazing footballer by some deluded fans on RAWK when in reality he was a constant reminder that our fans ambitions had dropped so far that he was seen as good or even sometimes great by some fans.

So really it’s not provocative at all imo, as there are clear and obvious reasons why Endo is loved and Lucas is hated by many of the same fans.

Cos Lucas was shit and Endo isn't!?

Personally I think it's because we were led to believe we were getting a young, top class box to box Brazilian midfielder and we started thinking of the great Brazil '70 team, when what we got was someone who looked and played like he won a competition to play for Liverpool while he was wearing a Brazil kit.

Lucas arrived as a box-to-box, attack-minded midfielder from Brazil, until the club realised he was terrible at that. So instead, he reinvented himself as a samba-loving Jay Spearing.

Also the Lucas hate on SCM went harder than anywhere else. All the 'top reds' still worship him like he was prime Xabi Alonso.

We needed him to be the next Gerrard (cf. Tim Vickery). Instead we got the proto-Endo.
You could say Lucas was a bit unluckeeee with his timing.

Do threads get automatically locked on here after a period of inactivity?

He has his thread, can it not be reopened?

I miss reading back stats like the last one KB posted for example.

I'm glad everyone... and i mean everyone... bar Binny was underwhelmed by the signing.

He's turned us all into believers. Those Stuttgart fans knew.

I said:
I've flip-flopped from being totally disconsolate with the idea of signing a 30 year old has been from the German league to LOVING this. Bring on the Endo times! As someone said, this has cult legend signing written all over it.

Lucas was the representation of everything that was going wrong as the time; hard working but lacking the required quality. The fact he was a guaranteed starter highlighted that as a club we weren't ran well enough or had enough quality to make that next step.

If Lucas was about nowadays and warmed the bench like endo, I think he'd have a cult following too

We'd been lying if any of us said we knew of him, nevermind seen him play.......so then all you're left with is the profile of player we're signing, harsh as it may sound....no one is getting excited by a 30 year old DM Japanese international playing for a mid table Bundesliga side.

Followed up with Binny's stats and Klopp saying he pushed for the deal and tried to sign him years before, you start to think ok maybe we found a wee gem here.

A little bit more seriously, Lucas wasn't very physically strong and was shrugged off the ball a lot. He was more of a speed bump that opposing attackers ran over.

Endo puts that mouthguard in and goes out there to fuck people up. He inflicts himself on the opposition.

I think that's basically the answer. Lucas was a softy. Liverpool fans can abide a lot, but not that.

This isn't much of a puzzle. Endo is doing a fantastic job at the very specific thing he's being asked to do, in a bit part role. We have some sympathy because he played a big role last season and was good, and this was followed up by slot clearly trying to get rid of him, which will happen this summer. So, we feel a little bad for him because slot is basically like, this guy's fucking limited, but golly, what a trier, top top professional.

Lucas was worse at his role, which was being a definitive part of a midfield, and his very existence reminded us of the much better midfield we had recently had.

You'll find that cult players emerge when teams give supporters an abundance of narrative, and so they seek out cameos for the excess joy. The narrative around the Lucas era was our football doesn't do anything and we are shit. The only cult figure he cut would be for a death cult. I'm pretty sure a few of you wanted him dead, is what I'm saying.

By the way, it's interesting how after we are done rigbteously felating our first 11, that man number 12 Curtis Jones seems entirely overlooked, despite playing a far more significant role, and being a scouser. He's both too relevant and not relevant enough to get the hipster treatment.

Endo > Curtis.

Sorry not sorry.
