Danny Ings and Origi

Underwhelming. I watched them pretty closely the other night (appreciate it's only 1 game like) and was really unimpressed by their movement.

Origi's not a number 9, and looks like he doesn't want to play through the middle. And Ings is a fairly average striker to be honest. Couldn't lose his man, his touch in close was limited, struggled to find space, etc.

You can see why Brodge waxed 32M on Benteskey.

They've just replacing borini and lambert ain't they.

Seemingly. But you've got to wonder why we've bought Ings.

Maybe he'll prove me wrong - and I hope he does - but he's never going to make it here and will be gone within 2 or 3 years.

I think you need to have a couple a decent players in your squad who are good enough to contribute from the bench or make the occasional start but not good enough to be pissed off by not starting every week.

I don't think either of them expect to be made captain, they know they arent our marquee players. If they can get 15 goals between them and allow us to rest other players then I think Rodgers will be happy enough with that contribution. There will be plenty of Europa games to keep them busy. Also its almost impossible for them to devalue given their age and cost

Origi looked alot sharper in the first game, quick to win the ball back, good lay offs and a willingness to run off the shoulder. He's not the first quick striker to prefer to run the channels rather than through the middle, many do. It's only one game, lets see how he does over the rest of the Summer. In the first match he took up some great positions and was unlucky to not score a couple more. There's plenty of promise there with what raw ability he has.

I get the feeling Ings will be the one who we benefit more from later in games, he'll come on and press the opposition and harass, something we missed off the bench last season. Inside the box he's usually pretty sharp with what falls to him, again he looked alot sharper in the first game, so hopefully it was just a case of us being some way off the pace in terms of fitness against a much fitter side.

They've not yet reached Aspas' 2013 pre season levels, which is disappointing after 90 mins of preseason!!!!

Aaaaaaaaargh

Ings will get better (change your name, mate, fer chrissake!). At Burnley he was expected to do about two players' jobs in the attacking area, buzzing all over the place, which helped that team hide the fact that it had barely any attacking players but did his own game no real good at all. Playing here in a specific and well-defined position ought to allow him to really show his intelligence and discreet effectiveness (which, with the recent passing of Brian Hall, would be rather poignantly apt). Hopefully that will happen soon, because in that recent match it just looked like he was sent on to run about a bit and keep fit.

I've absolutely no idea about Origi. Apart from an uninspiring game against Everton and this recent friendly I've not seen him play. Fingers crossed but he seems quite raw still to me.

That's not really saying much considering our squad turnover. We've only retained just over 43% of the players from our 2012-13 squad and considering players like Enrique, Borini, Yesil and Sinclair are rumoured to be departing, either for good or on loan, and people here would prefer an alternative to Lucas and Allen, that would leave us with a squad we barely recognise from 3 years ago.

Judging just from the pre-season games, I favour Ings to have a better 15/16 season in the league than Origi as a central striker. Origi has pace advantage over Ings, but Ings seems to be better-developed right now in the other other areas like control, positioning, link-up with team mates, decision-making, etc. Given that Ings is a couple of years older, has a few more professional seasons under his belt, and is surrounded by his countrymen, this shouldn't be too surprising.

If they could combine for a dozen league goals this season, they'd probably have done okay in the first season here as the 3rd and 4th choice strikers.

I think Ings will do well, he takes up good positions and has a good touch, getting off the mark will help his confidence.

I reckon Ings won't score too many, but a few of them will prove to be late match winners at crucial junctures.

Yeah, that's more or less how I see it, he'll come on and harass players late on in games alot of the time. He's on a hinding to nothing either way because people will always expect more unless he's banging in 15+, he'll play less and inevitably score less. As long as he chips in and fairs better than the garbage we put up with last season, it's step in the right direction.

If, as back up striker, he can score close to what our "best" attacker scored last season, it'll be a big improvement on the squad. Assuming, Benteke, Firmino, Origi, Lallana, Coutinho, Henderson, Ibe and Milner all chip in, I think we'll be much improved in terms of goalscoring. That's without accounting for Sturridge getting fit.

It's an improvement, but that's not saying much from last year. It needs to be enough of an improvement to move us into the Champions League and then on further.

I know it's only pre season but Origi hasn't really impressed that much. Dare I say a loan period for him to gain a little experience of the english game with a guarantee that he plays most games.

He's looked shite against really poor opposition and has come off a poor season for Lille. Of course there's loads of time to turn it around, but it's not looking good. Hopefully we start to see signs of a decent prospect in the coming weeks.

People keep forgetting about Firmino, I think you can throw his £30m capture into the reckoning aswell. If he's half as good as suggested and he replicates something like what Suarez gave in terms of workrate then that's basically four new attacking players to replace Sterling, Lambert, Borini and Mario. I'm sure we'll get more than the 18 goals or whatever it was that they gave us.

Mark Lawerenson
[article=http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/mark-lawrenson-im-worried-liverpool-9725565]One player I doubt we’ll see in the starting line-up at the Britannia Stadium is Divock Origi.

I don’t see him as an out-and-out striker, at least not yet. He’s still young and you can tell he is very much learning his trade.

When everybody is fit, in the first few months I’d imagine Origi will be mainly used as a substitute to stretch teams when coming on late on.

He loves the ball in front of him. He doesn’t like it being played up to him. His movement isn’t great in the box.

I’m not saying Origi is a bad buy, far from it. He’s still a kid.

And with Danny Ings and Christian Benteke also coming in, there will be no great pressure on Origi to deliver immediately.

It will take a while for him to get grips with things, but he has qualities to make an impact.[/article]
