Daniel Sturridge

I rate him very highly. If we play him through the middle, and I think we would, he is tricky and a goal-scorer.

i'm the same doc

but i really think its make or break for his career now. He needs regular games desperately

good player, but not what we need. we need a clinical poacher or technical targetman. a van nisterlory or zlatan. someone who will score. sturridge will be clever score a brace in some games, but not consistently.

Unfortunately we're in no position to pick and choose. Sturridge offers pace, trickery and he can finish albeit he's hit and miss in that department.

I'd be more than happy if we signed him or even got him on loan.

I would be happy with Strurridge, it still leaves us short of a striker though.
I told you we should have got Berbatov.

But apparently sturridge himself turned this option down in the summer so not sure why its bein touted again. If we want someone who can do a job on the wing as well i think walcott would be a better option. He's a terrific finisher in my opinion.

I'd say his lack of playing may have softened his opinion. As for Walcott and 'a job on the wing', the reason he's considering leaving Arsenal is because he wants to be played centrally, and would want those assurances. I think Sturridge has the potential to be a better CF than Walcott, and we can try before we buy.

Yeah but i think playing on the wing as part of our front three might appeal more than on the wing as part of a four man midfield at arsenal. Maybe the promise of being rotated around that front three might be enough for him. Still think walcott is a better finisher.

Sturridge would be a really good option given our current predicament and lack of financial clout. When he's played he's scored goals quite regularly for Bolton and the Chavs, he's quick, relatively young and knows a few of our lads already.

I think people are too stung by players like Downing, Pennant etc. Sturridge is a cut above all of them and has the potential to be a very good player, you can still have potential at 23 because largely he's had a hugely talented squad blocking his way.

It's a sensible, feasible option that gives us 5 months to make a proper decision. No brainer for me.Of course for his talked about fee there may be better out there, but in the short term it gives us a bit of bite upfront and the chance to see him on a more regular basis.

Walcott - 51 goals, 40 assists in 252 games (career total all comps)
Sturridge - 36 goals, 15 assists in 128 games (career total all comps)

I think it's pertinent to also point out that Sturridge doesn't have Walcott's injury history. That's a very significant factor for me.

I don't want to play down Sturridge's quality in any way, but he strikes me as a stronger version of Defoe and not too dissimilar to that other lad up the East Lancs that isn't fairing too badly for England or in helping United challenge for the title. I'd have loved us to have someone like Defoe in the squad over the last several years. Someone who, despite his purple patches, could be relied upon to be the difference when you hit a slump as a team. That's what we're lacking at the minute, someone to be the difference. Ultimately we might be looking at shelling out big money eventually again on a striker, but he'll be good to have as part of a front three, he's versatile, hungry and quick and fits into our alleged blueprint (argghhh!) of having young, exciting players who will be here for several years (at least).

Could his greediness outside the penalty area be coached out of him?
It's one thing having Suarez who actually takes on 3 players and more often than not beats them (cue Rosco's 'he's a liability' bollocks), but Sturridge can be seriously frustrating to watch when he attempts it and more often than not fails, particularly when there are very obvious options around him in great positions.
Torres looked distraught playing with Sturidge when AVB was around.

So, according to the Echo, the owners were prepared to fund 15 mill for Sturridge in August but Rodgers wanted a loan first. I bet he's regretting that now.
