[article]Groningen has announced that they have triggered the option to sign Ritsu Doan on a permanent deal.
The midfielder joined on an initial one-year-loan deal from Japanese side Gamba Osaka, but there was a clause in the contract which allowed Groningen to sign him permanently for around €2 million.
There were doubts that Groningen could afford to keep the 19-year-old, who has become a firm fan favourite, but the club confirmed on Monday that Doan will remain, and sign a contract until 2021.

Thomas Schaaf - Werder Bremen (Technical Director)
[article]SV Werder Bremen have appointed Thomas Schaaf as the club’s new technical director for next season. The long-time head coach of the Green-Whites from 1999 to 2013, who also won the double in 2004, signed his contract this Sunday, which will bring him back to the club in his new role from 1st July 2018.
General manager Frank Baumann has attached great importance to the new role and to Thomas Schaaf returning to the club in his new function. “In the last months we have put our professional and development structures under the microscope and have arranged them for the future. Thomas Schaaf in this position will be key in dovetailing between the professional and development sectors. I am really pleased, therefore, that we have been able to recrute a footballing expert with such experience,“ said Baumann.
Thomas Schaaf, who celebrates his 57th birthday on Monday, said ahead of his comeback to the club, “I’m looking forward to working with Frank Baumann and the rest of the great people at the club. Thomas Schaaf will work together with Thomas Wolter, as those responsible for the Top-Talent concept and will act as a mentor for coaches in the academy. Sam brings a long and successful pedigree of football experience spanning 16 years as a professional footballer, during which time he has won promotion three times with three different clubs, while also captaining Wolverhampton Wanderers in both League One and the Championship.
Sam played over 550 professional matches in every league from the National League to the Premier League and also 52 appearances for the Wales national side.
After being forced to call time on his playing career early through a serious knee injury in November 2016, the 36-year-old has been concentrating on coaching having completed his UEFA A Licence with the FAW, while having embarked on his Pro Licence qualification. He has successfully plied his coaching skills at both Coventry City and Wolves since hanging up his boots 18 months ago.

[article]Premier Soccer League champions Mamelodi Sundowns have strengthened their squad by signing Toni Silva‚ who last played for Levadiakos in the Greek Superleague.
The Brazilians‚ who won their eighth PSL title with a match to spare this past weekend‚ have entered into a three-year contract with the 24-year-old Guinea-Bissau international winger.
“He is from Guinea-Bissau but he’s Portuguese. He played for Benfica youth‚ played for Liverpool youth‚ he played for Chelsea youth‚” Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane said on Wednesday.
“He had a good youth programme. He was playing with [Manchester City midfielder] Raheem Sterling but he has never reached his full potential.
“He says this is it now. We got him from Greece‚ where he was playing. He had challenges there.
“You know the financial system in Greece‚ the economic situation there. He was never paid money and he decided he had to leave.”
Silva was born in Guinea-Bissau but grew up in Portugal. He played for the Portuguese under-17 and U-18 squads but made his full international debut for Guinea-Bissau when he scored on debut in a 3-2 victory over Zambia in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in 2016.
Mosimane said Sundowns beat Cape Town City to Silva’s signature.
“Cape Town City wanted him because Benni knows him. But he decided to sign with us‚” the coach said.

Adama Diomande - LAFC (free transfer)
[article]Hull City forward Adama Diomande has joined Major League Soccer side LAFC, the club announced on Wednesday.
Diomande, who will occupy an international roster spot, was to be out of contract this summer but the club released him early so he could make the move to the United States.
The move to LAFC sees Diomande link up again with coach Bob Bradley after having worked with him at Norwegian club Stabaek.
"We are excited to add Adama to our Club," said LAFC general manager John Thorrington. "Adama is a dangerous striker who will add another element to our attack.
"He has top-level international and club experience, and, with his familiarity with Bob, we expect him to contribute immediately. In Adama, we are signing another very good player in the prime of his career."
The 28-year-old had been in and out of the Hull side this season, making just three starts in the Championship with another 13 appearances off the bench.
"Adama is a quality goalscorer who brings the experience of playing at a high level in Europe," said Bradley. "We believe he will have a strong impact in MLS."

[article]Manager Darrell Clarke today strengthened his backroom staff with the appointment of Tommy Widdrington, who will take on the newly created role of Head of Recruitment.
Widdrington, who began his career at Southampton, went on to play for Wigan Athletic, Grimsby Town, Port Vale, Hartlepool United and Macclesfield and ended his league career back at Port Vale.
Along the way he scored 24 goals in 372 league games and won promotions with both Grimsby and Hartlepool and played alongside Darrell Clarke during his time at Victoria Park.
He joined Salisbury City in 2005 and remained there for five years, and was player/manager for the last of those. Darrell Clarke took over from him as manager of the club.
Tommy enjoyed a brief spell as assistant to Paul Sturrock at Southend United before joining Hemel Hempstead Town as manager.
In February 2012 he took over as manager of Eastbourne Borough, where he was in charge for five years.
He was appointed Head of Recruitment at Coventry City in April last year and it’s from the Ricoh Arena that he links up again with Darrell Clarke.

Bobby Burns - Heart (undisclosed fee)
[article]Hearts have completed the signing of highly rated Northern Irish teenager Bobby Burns on a three-year deal.
The versatile 18-year-old has joined the Jambos from NIFL Premiership side Glenavon on an undisclosed fee.
Antrim-born Bobby has enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame in Northern Ireland after establishing himself in Glenavon’s first-team this season, both at left-back and up front.
He made 41 appearances and scored eight goals in all competitions, and bagged 12 assists in the league.
Nominated for the NI Football Writers’ Association Young Player of the Year Award, he’s already won Glenavon’s Young Player of the Year and Fans’ Player of the Year awards.
Capped at U21 level for Northern Ireland, Bobby was invited to train with Michael O’Neill’s senior squad, having already been spotted by Hearts scouts while playing for Glenavon.
He’ll become a registered Hearts player when the summer transfer window opens on June 9th and will join up with his new teammates in time for the start of pre-season training.[/article]

The news mas made official earlier on Thursday. “We have been watching him for a long time and followed his development closely. He has enjoyed a terrific tactical and technical education at Ajax and Man City and is a quick and excellent match player. We are delighted to have got his signature over a number of notable clubs and that he has chosen to come and prove himself at Hertha,” said Michael Preetz on Hertha’s first signing of the summer.
Dilrosun, who has roots in Suriname, was born in 1998 and began to showcase his talents in the Ajax academy from 2006. After 45 appearance for the Netherlands junior team he moved to Manchester City in 2014, where he played 10 games for the under-18s and under-19s before collecting 29 appearances as a winger for the under-23 side.[/article]
Lukas Klünter - Hertha Berlin
[article]Preparations for 2018/19 continued on Monday as Lukas Klünter put pen to paper and agreed to join Hertha from July 1st from FC Cologne.
“We are delighted that Lukas has chosen us. He wants to take the next step and establish himself as a Bundesliga player- We are convinced he will add quality to our team with his attributes – above all his pace,” said an excited Michael Preetz on today’s transfer.
“Above all it’s a big sign that another youngster with a lot of potential has chosen Hertha Berlin,” added the Hertha sporting director.
Klünter himself is also very excited for the challenge ahead. “I see a big opportunity to develop myself here in Berlin. I’m going to throw myself fully into this new challenge and get the most out of my potential,” said the 21-year-old after shortly after signing his contract.
Born in May 26 1996 in Euskirchen, Klünter moved from Bonner SC to the Köln youth set up in July 2014. After regularly turning out at right back for the under-19s and 23s, he made the step up the first team in 2016.

The 53-year-old has agreed a two-year deal to succeed Gian Piero Ventura, who was sacked after Italy's failure to reach the World Cup.
It will be a first role in international management for Mancini, who has left Russian club Zenit St Petersburg to take up the post.
He led Manchester City to their first title in 44 years in 2012.

Graham’s playing career saw him at Scunthorpe United, Luton Town, Preston North End and Burnley. He made 40 international appearances for Scotland. Graham retired at the end of 2011/2012 season after 1024 professional appearances in a playing career spanning 22 years across every level of the game.

New Managerial Team Announced – Salford City are delighted to unveil the club’s new managerial team, with Graham Alexander picking up the managerial reins and Chris Lucketti appointed as his assistant.
Gary Neville said;
“After what happened last week we had to react quickly. Sporting director, Chris Casper, led the process and when he made the club aware of the opportunity to secure someone of Graham’s experience and credibility we moved decisively. We have acquired the highest quality of manager in Graham to continue the great work that has been done over the last four seasons. We have had stability at this club and we now look forward to a new chapter with Graham, who has accepted a four year deal at SCFC”

“When we met with him, we were impressed with his values, his passion and his drive. His wealth of experience will certainly benefit SCFC as we look to take on the challenge of playing in the National League. Graham will be joined by Chris Lucketti and we are delighted to have someone of his credibility joining the team also. GRAHAM ALEXANDER
DOB – 10.10.71 – Coventry
Graham’s playing career saw him at Scunthorpe United, Luton Town, Preston North End and Burnley. He made 40 international appearances for Scotland. Graham retired at the end of 2011/2012 season after 1024 professional appearances in a playing career spanning 22 years across every level of the game.
Graham was assistant caretaker coach of Preston North End from December 2011-January 2012. He was appointed manager of Fleetwood Town in December 2012. Fleetwood were seventh in the 2012/2013 football league two when he was appointed. Graham guided Fleetwood to promotion in 2013/2014 by winning the league two play offs. He became Scunthorpe United manager in 2016 and the team reached the league one promotion play offs in 2016/2017. He left Scunthorpe United in March 2018.
CHRIS LUCKETTI
DOB – 28.9.71 – Littleborough
Chris’s playing career started as a professional at Halifax in 1991. During 1993 he moved to Bury where he made a total of 235 first team appearances, winning back to back promotions in 1995/1996 and 1996/1997 seasons. In 1999 he joined Huddersfield before moving to Preston North End in 2001/2002.
