Fulham Football Club is delighted to confirm the free signing of Mladen Petric on a one-year deal.

The 31-year-old Croatian international, joins from Hamburg following the recent expiration of his contract with the German side. He made 98 appearances for Hamburg and scored 38 league goals after signing from Borussia Dortmund in 2008.

Petric started his senior career with Swiss side FC Baden in 1998. He joined Grasshopper in 1999, making 114 appearances for the Zurich-based club before moving to Basel in 2004 where he registered 38 goals in 72 league appearances. He spent the 2007/08 season at Borussia Dortmund before signing for Hamburg where he played under Fulham Manager Martin Jol.

He helped Hamburg reach the semi-final of the Europa League in 2010 and scored the opening goal at Craven Cottage. Fulham overcame a 1-0 deficit to win 2-1 to reach the final.

Petric has made 44 international appearances for Croatia and has scored 12 goals which included the winner against England in the Euro 2008 qualifiers.

Speaking at Fulham’s Motspur Park training ground on Thursday afternoon, Mladen Petric said:

"I like the Premier League and it has always been one of my wishes to come here. I played with Hamburg against the Club two years ago in the Europa League. It was very nice to play at Craven Cottage with a fantastic crowd and I have enjoyed a good relationship with every member of the Club I have met since.

"I’m very happy to be part of what is happening at Fulham. The Club is doing very well and that was why I decided to come here. I know the Manager well and I know that he is always looking to strengthen his attacking options and I hope that we can do even better next season."

Alvaro Dominguez - Borussia Monchengladbach (€8 million, could rise to €10 million)

DominguezTrikotVorst_f16f831ded.jpg

Álvaro Domínguez, who has just signed a five season deal with Borussia Mönchengladbach, assured on his departure from Atlético de Madrid that the club will “always” remain in his heart and that playing in the German league is “a big opportunity”.

“It has been wonderful for this to have been my home since the age of 13. It’s been incredible and in recent years we’ve managed to turn Atlético into one of the greats of Europe. I hope that continues to be the case and it remains that way wherever it goes,” said Domínguez in a press conference, in which he was clearly emotional.

“I’m young, I’m ambitious and I want to experience other things and other big leagues. This team will always be in my heart and I don’t feel like I’m leaving via the back door, because I’ve helped to win three European titles (two Europa Leagues and a European Super Cup) in recent years,” he said.

“Now I’m happy and excited, because going to Germany is a big opportunity for me. It’s worked out well for both Atlético de Madrid and for me, and Atlético will always be here. Wherever I go, I will always be thinking of these people and these fans,” he concluded.

Keith Andrews - Bolton Wanderers (free transfer)

Bolton Wanderers have secured the services of Keith Andrews, with the midfielder signing a three-year contract at the Reebok Stadium.

The Republic of Ireland international, who started all three of his country's group games at Euro 2012, has joined on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract at West Bromwich Albion.

Speaking about his latest recruit, manager Owen Coyle said: "We are pleased to have been able to bring in Keith early in the transfer window as there were a number of clubs interested in signing him.

"He is highly experienced both in domestic and international football, and he will bring strength, competition and a goalscoring threat to our midfield."

Andrews spent the second half of last season at the Hawthorns having signed a short-term contract in January.

He made a total of 14 appearances for Roy Hodgson, scoring Premier League goals against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sunderland.

Previously, the Dublin-born man had spent the first five months of the 2011/12 campaign on-loan at Ipswich Town from parent club Blackburn Rovers.

He averaged just under a goal every two games for the Tractor Boys, scoring nine times in 20 Championship matches.

Andrews moved to Ewood Park from MK Dons in the summer of 2008. In his 76 games for Rovers, he scored five goals.

The vastly-experienced 31-year-old has also represented Wolverhampton Wanderers, Oxford United, Stoke City, Walsall and Hull City in a senior career which started in 2000.

On the international scene, Andrews has been a regular for Giovanni Trapattoni's Republic of Ireland side in recent years having earned 31 caps since making his debut in November 2008 against Poland, where he marked his performance with a goal.

Andrews has also found the net for the Irish in games against Italy and Estonia, both in 2011.

Keith Andrews is confident that his Championship experience will help Wanderers in their bid to bounce back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

The 31-year-old has moved to the Reebok Stadium on a three-year deal after leaving former club West Bromwich Albion, becoming Owen Coyle's first recruit of the summer transfer window.

Last season Andrews played in the second tier during a loan spell with Ipswich Town where he scored nine goals in 20 games before the turn of the year.

Andrews said: "It's a very tough league, but if you have the right squad and right characters in the dressing room, you can be successful. And looking at our squad, I believe we have a fantastic group of players to tackle the Championship.

"I'm sure there will be a few new signings and fresh faces too, and that can only help the current squad. We are certainly geared up to be fighting for promotion.

"I was aware of the manager's interest before the European Championships and I was obviously very flattered by that. Every time I have come across the manager he always seems like a very positive person.

"The manager spoke to me at length and highlighted his vision for the club, saying how he wanted to get back up to the Premier League at the first opportunity.

"From my point of view, he sold the club to me. He impressed me with what he had to say and I had no doubts. He wanted me to come here and be a big player for the team."

Wanderers will hit the ground running when the Championship season begins in the middle of August, with fixtures against Burnley, Derby County and Nottingham Forest all scheduled within the first week.

"It's important that when everyone regroups ahead of the season we start very positively," Andrews said.

"We need to look at getting a good start and occupying a place within the top half of the table from the outset.

"The good thing about the Championship is that the games come thick and fast. If you get three points, the next game can't come quick enough.

"Likewise, if you lose a game you know the next one is just around the corner to put things right. In some cases, the next match is just three or four days away.

"It's a very exciting league and I'm going into the new season with a lot of confidence that we can do very well."

Owen Coyle's first team squad are set to regroup for the first day of pre-season training next Thursday, although Andrews will be given extra time off for a summer break following his involvement in this summer's European Championships.

The midfielder started all three of Republic of Ireland's group games over in Poland and Ukraine.

Andrews added: "Playing in the Euros was a highlight in my international career, even though we didn't play anywhere near as well as we can.

"Having said that, we played against three top teams in the world and two of them will be contesting the final on Sunday.

"It was a fantastic experience to compete against players of the quality of Spain and Italy, and that will only help me in the future."

Ben Foster - West Brom (undisclosed fee, reportedly £4 million)

ALBION have won the race to make key target Ben Foster their first summer signing for an undisclosed fee.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper rejoins the club on a permanent deal after starring for the Baggies on loan from Blues last season.

He has penned a three-year contract, plus a further two-year option in the club's favour, committing his future to the club until June 2017.

And Head Coach Steve Clarke is delighted to have made the 6ft4in custodian the first capture of his Hawthorns reign.

"Ben's been a priority signing all summer," said Clarke.

"His performances last season were exceptional and it was important for the club to strike a permanent deal for him.

"It's a great signing for me and an even better one for the club.

"I think the supporters will be delighted we've been able to keep him on board - and make him our player.

"In any league in the world you want a goalkeeper that is going to make match-winning saves, turn draws into wins and defeats into draws.

"A quality goalkeeper is worth ten or 12 points a season to you - and that's certainly what we think we've got in Ben Foster."

Foster's outstanding form last term made him a firm fans' favourite, with a series of superb individual performances helping Albion secure a best-ever tenth-placed Barclays Premier League finish.

He dominated the voting as he was named Albion's Supporters' Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year.

He kept ten clean sheets, equalling the club record for the most shut-outs in a Barclays Premier League campaign.

And only a groin injury ahead of the final game of the season against Arsenal prevented him from playing all 38 top-flight league games for the second successive year.

Sporting & Technical Director Dan Ashworth added: "The players, the staff and supporters will be delighted Ben has agreed to join us permanently.

"Ben showed to everyone last season how important he is to us, making vital saves at key moments in games.

"He was happy here, enjoyed the goalkeeper coaching under Dean Kiely, the facilities, the supporters, and everything about the club.

"And the fact Ben was with us on loan put us in a prime position to sign him."

Lacina Traore - Anzhi Makhachkala (undisclosed fee)

Highly rated FC Kuban striker Lacina Traore is to join Russian Premier League rivals Anzhi Makhachkala, both clubs said Friday.

"Traore's transfer is totally in line with the goals that our club has set this season, achieving the highest possible results in the Russian league as well as in Europe," Anzhi general director Aivaz Kaziakhmedov told the club's website (www.fc-anji.ru).

The highly rated centre forward becomes Anzhi's first signing in this transfer window.

The 21-year-old Ivorian finished the 2011-12 Premier League season with 18 goals in 39 matches for Dan Petrescu’s side, making him the division’s third-best scorer and has been the subject of heated transfer speculation.

"This decision was hard for us because the sale of Traore was the last on the list of our wishes," FC Kuban sporting director Sergei Doronchenko was quoted as saying by the club's website.

Kuban chief executive Suren Mkrtchyan told RIA Novosti in May the club was resigned to losing Traore, one of the Russian league's brightest prospects.

Anzhi finished fifth in the Russian Premier League in May, sealing a spot in the second qualifying round of the Europa League, and hope to go one better next term by targeting a Champions League spot.

Since billionaire owner Suleiman Kerimov took over in January 2011, Anzhi have recruited former Chelsea coach Guus Hiddink and signed top players including Samuel Eto’o and ex-Chelsea wing-back Yuri Zhirkov.

Kuban was the Premier League’s surprise package in 2011-12, finishing eighth in its first season since promotion back to the top flight.

Romulo - Spartak Moscow (€8 million)

Brazil international midfielder Romulo has signed a four-year contract with Russia' s Spartak Moscow for eight million euros.

The 21-year-old's Brazilian club Vasco da Gama confirmed on its website Romulo had travelled to Moscow Thursday to sign the deal, reported Xinhua.

Romulo, who plays mostly as a holding midfielder, was one of Brazil's most impressive players during a recent series of friendlies against Denmark, the US, Mexico and Argentina.

Under the terms of the deal, Romulo will officially begin his contract with Spartak Aug 12.

Oliver Norwood - Huddersfield Town (compensation package)

Huddersfield Town has today agreed a deal to sign Manchester United midfielder Oliver Norwood on a three year contract.

The central midfielder's current deal with the Premier League giants is set to expire and Town has agreed a compensation package with United that will see Norwood join the Club on July 1.

The 21 year-old, former Coventry loanee, joined United at the age of seven and progressed through the Club's Academy set-up before agreeing professional terms in July 2009.

Born in Burnley, Norwood never made an appearance for United and has played his entire first team football out on loan at Carlisle United, Scunthorpe Untied and most recently Coventry City. Town fans will remember the midfielder from last season when he scored a superb long range effort to put Scunthorpe ahead against Town at Glanford Park.

With a growing reputation for his excellent technical ability and wide range of passing, the midfielder is the third signing that Town has made this season that possesses international experience.

Despite playing at under-17 level for England, Norwood chose to follow his heritage and play for Northern Ireland at international level. He made his senior debut as a second-half substitute in 2010 before making his first ever start in a UEFA Euro 2012 qualifier against Italy - to date he has made six appearances.

Huddersfield Town Manager, Simon Grayson, said:

"I am delighted to have secured the signing of Oliver - he is a brilliant footballer and someone that I believe will do well for the football club.

"He is an excellent passer of the ball from the centre of the park and shows good composure on it - he will add a different dimension to our midfield. He is a young, full international who is full of desire and has excellent potential. He also knows Glynn (Snodin) well from when he was a part the Northern Ireland international coaching team."

Simon added: "Oliver turned down a number of other clubs to be a part of our team and with the Championship experience that he will bring; I believe he will be a key player for us. Manchester United offered him a new deal, but he wanted to leave to pursue his career, which says a lot about him."

Gebre Selassie - Werder Bremen (undisclosed, reportedly €2m)

selassieschaafallofspk630.jpg

Things were hectic on the first day at Werder Bremen for Theodor Gebre Selassie, who will be called Theo in the future. At 10:20 a.m., he landed at Airport Bremen from Munich and headed to Sporthep Werder for the medical check-up and then in the afternoon he met at the business offices for a chat with manager Klaus Allofs that ended in the official presentation at Weser Stadium.

"I am happy to be here even though naturally I would rather be still playing at the Euro. Of the city, I actually only know the doctor, but today I will deal intensively with the tradition of this club and my new teammates. I will ask the head coach for a couple days to recover," said Gebre Selassie.

Head coach Thomas Schaaf immediately granted his wish. "He had a week off now without really being able to recover. So starting today he can take two weeks off," said the head coach, who has plenty of expectations for his new acquisition. "We want to experience him just like at the European Championship, where he showcased himself very well. He ran a lot, was active and regularly pushed forward. He will enrich our game from the defender position."

The outside defender also has high expectations on himself. "The Bundesliga is one of the best leagues in the world. I came here to persevere. After the offer from Werder, I knew that I didn't have to look around any more. It was my first offer and my first choice," said the Czech, who wants to excel. "Werder will have a young team, but the Champions League is without question a goal for which we should play."

And the Czech had to make clear on his first Werder day that he has no relation to the Ethiopian world class star runner Haile Gebreselassie and that he was not named after him. "There is nothing to those stories. I was born in the Czech Republic. Gebre Selassie is my surname from birth on. Other than a distant uncle, I don't have any connection to Ethiopia and haven't been there since I was three years old. And I don't have any recollections of that visit," said Gebre Selassie. It was not the first time he was asked about it.

Nils Petersen - Werder Bremen (loan)

Nils Petersen will spend the 2012/13 season with Werder Bremen, after FC Bayern, northern rivals Werder and the player agreed the terms of a season-long loan on Friday. At the same time, Petersen signed a one-year extension to his current contract with Bayern, meaning he remains a Munich player until 30 June 2015.

“Nils is a huge prospect as a striker. We want him to have the chance of gaining match practice, which he can do in Bremen,” commented FCB director of sport Christian Nerlinger, “the fact we’ve also extended his contract demonstrates how much we value him. We believe he has a successful future ahead of him in the Bundesliga and with FC Bayern.”

Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf is hoping that he will be able to replicate his goal-scoring form at his new club.

"He is a centre forward who has demonstrated his goal-scoring talent. We are delighted that he is joining us. We are sure that he'll have all the right conditions to develop here."

Bremen sporting director Klaus Allofs added: "We have waited a long time for this transfer, and are pleased that it's now signed and sealed."

Petersen finished as top scorer in the German second division in 2010/11 prior to making the switch from Energie Cottbus to Munich. He scored four goals for FCB in 15 appearances last term.

Danny Guthrie - Reading (free transfer)

Reading Football Club are delighted to announce that Danny Guthrie has agreed to join the club on a Bosman from Newcastle United.

Central midfielder Guthrie, 25, who came through the ranks at Liverpool and Manchester United before making his mark at Bolton Wanderers and Newcastle, has agreed a three-year contract at Madejski Stadium.

He completed his medical today and the deal will go through on 1st July, subject to the normal ratification of the contractual documents by The FA and Premier League.

The vast majority of Danny's career has been spent in the Barclays Premier League and he has played close to 100 games in the top flight, as well as lining up in both the Champions League and Europa League against the likes of Bayern Munich, PSV Eindhoven, Galatasary et al.

Chairman Sir John Madejski said, "I would like to welcome Danny to Reading Football Club and wish him every success here. He is a highly-regarded player and it speaks volumes that he decided to join us here at Reading. He has rightly recognised that these are exciting times to be associated with our club and its potential."

Director of Football Nick Hammond said, "Danny is a player we have admired for a long time and we have been aware of him since he first broke into the Premier League at Bolton. He has great experience at this level, most recently for a massive club in Newcastle playing in front of big crowds on a regular basis. He is a good age, but still has a lot more to come with the best years of his career ahead of him."

Manager Brian McDermott added, "We're delighted Danny is signing for us. He's brings good experience at a good age, he has real ability to pass the ball, he's got energy, he's hungry and is what Reading is all about. We're looking to add players who we think will be good for us over a number of years, not just next season, adding to the players who have already done fantastically well for us."

Danny commented, "It feels brilliant to have everything agreed, it is a great honour and I am very excited. As soon as I met the manager and Nick Hammond my mind was made up, it was a no-brainer. Reading Football Club is a fantastic family club, well run and I'm so excited to be part of something special for this club."
