Marquinho - AS Roma (€3.5m)

Roma have tied up a deal for Brazilian midfielder Marquinho, signing the Fluminense man for a total fee of €3.5m.

The versatile attacker, who can also play wing-back, initially joined the Giallorossi on a six-month loan in January, but hopes of a permanent transfer looked to have ended earlier this week when the deadline for the capital club to sign him outright for an agreed fee passed without resolution.

However, talks restarted soon after and the club have now confirmed via an official statement his permanent acquisition, with the total fee agreed suggestive that Roma successfully negotiated a reduction of €1m.

“AS Roma S.p.A announces that it has exercised the option to purchase outright the registration of the player Marco Antonio De Mattos Filho (Marquinho), with the recognition in favour of FC Fluminense a fee of €3.5m.

“The first instalment, amounting to €2m, will be paid by July 10, 2012 and the second, of €1.5m, by no later than July 10, 2013. With the player, the club has signed a contract until June 30, 2016.”

Freddie Kanoute - Beijing Guoan (free transfer)

Beijing Guoan have announced the signing of former Sevilla and Tottenham striker Frederic Kanoute on a free transfer.

Kanoute, 34, has signed a one and a half year deal with the Chinese Super League side, which will see the Mali international earn an annual salary of US$2 million.

Guoan, who lie third in the Chinese Super League, are the latest team to turn to Africa in search of a big-name striking option following the moves of Didier Drogba to Shanghai Shenhua and Yakubu to Guangzhou R&F.

The move had been close for several days, with Chinese media reporting Kanoute's arrival in Beijing earlier this week. On Saturday, at midday in China, Guoan finally confirmed the news.

The two-time UEFA Cup winner with Sevilla will now join up with his new side this week, before potentially making his debut against Yakubu's Guangzhou R&F side next weekend.

Everyone's rushing to pick up Rangers' players

Steven Whittaker - Norwich City (free transfer)

NORWICH City are pleased to announce the signing of 28-year-old Scottish international defender Steven Whittaker on a four-year deal, subject to international clearance being received.

The free agent, who previously played for Scottish giants Rangers, is set to become Chris Hughton's first signing as Norwich City Manager since taking the reins on June 7, 2012.

Whittaker has 15 caps for Scotland at international level, and is a versatile defender who can play in a variety of positions, including midfield, but has predominantly been used as a right-back by his former clubs, Rangers and Hibernian.

Norwich City Manager Chris Hughton told Canaries.co.uk: "In Steven we have a player who is very versatile - he can play anywhere across the back four and anywhere across midfield, so there's plenty of versatility there.

"It's probably a good time for him. Sometimes it is time to move on to a different club, and go there with a lot of enthausiasm, and he has international experience too.

"He has of course been used to playing at a very high level when he was at Rangers, and in a lot of big games with a passionate crowd behind him. So the stage of the Premier League is certainly one that won't faze him with his experience."

Whittaker told canaries.co.uk: "All of my experience to date has been in Scotland so I'm really looking forward to the challenge of playing in the Premier League, I'm very excited about it.

"When I spoke to Chris Hughton I was very impressed with his plans to progress Norwich City and everyone I've spoken to in the game has had nothing but praise for the Club and the city of Norwich.

"I know Simon Lappin from a few years back and of course I know Russell Martin from Scotland and I'm looking forward to meeting up with the squad and the staff."

He began his career with Scottish side Hibernian and made his debut in a 1-0 win over St Johnstone on May 12, 2002.

The 6ft 1in Whittaker went on to make over league 140 appearances for Hibs after establishing himself on the right side of their defence - impressing then Rangers manager Walter Smith enough to earn a £2M move to Ibrox.

He scored on his Rangers debut in a 7-2 thrashing of Falkirk in the SPL on August 18, 2007, and went on to score 28 goals in over 200 games - including 11 in the 2009-10 season.

Whittaker's time in Scotland, particularly with Rangers, has proved to be successful for the Edinburgh born defender. He has won three Scottish Premier League titles, two Scottish Cups, and three Scottish League Cups with the Gers, as well as another League Cup triumph with Hibernian in 2007.

The defender also appeared for Rangers in the 2008 UEFA Cup Final, which ended in a late 2-0 defeat to Russian side Zenit St Petersburg.

In the run up to the final, Whittaker scored a memorable goal against Sporting Lisbon in the quarters, picking up the ball in his own half and producing a wonderful finish to seal a semi-final place - one of many spectacular strikes in his time at Ibrox.

I said this in another thread but we should be all over Steven Davis, he's already said he's not willing to accept the terms of the new owners. He's a brilliant passer, possesses great touch and technique, good off-the-ball getting himself all over the pitch, likes to dribble and carry the ball, just an all-round very clever footballer. Captain for his club and country, so he is a leader and thrives on responsibility and pressure. Won numerous trophies with Rangers, helped them to the UEFA Cup final in 2008, played in the Champions League a few times, won SPL Player of the Year two years ago and was nominated this year again. Isn't injury prone as far as I know and it's a no-brainer as far as i'm concerned, i'm certain he would prove to be a valuable asset for the squad and first-team. So sell Adam for 6-8m to Sunderland or wherever, therefore you have the funds to spend elsewhere.

Ishak Belfodil - Parma (€2.5m)

Parma have officially agreed a deal with Olympique Lyonnais and Under-20 France forward Ishak Belfodil for €2.5m.

The 20-year-old talent had also been in talks with Bologna, but the Ducali secured the transfer this afternoon.

“Olympique Lyonnais confirm the signature with Italian club Parma for the transfer of Ishak Belfodil,” read a statement from the French outfit.

“The Under-20 France striker has decided to join Parma and will sign his new contract on Monday after he undergoes a medical.

“If the transfer is confirmed, Olympique Lyonnais will receive €2.5m and 20 per cent of any future profit from his sale.”

Clarence Seedorf - Botafogo (free transfer)

A statement on the club's official website reads: "Botafogo have completed the signing of 36-year-old Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf.

"He has signed a two-year contract with Botafogo. The date of his presentation will be announced at a later time. This is the biggest signing of a foreign player made by a Brazilian club."

I can see him stepping up to replace Solbakken should the latter be removed when their quest for promotion aren't going to plan.

Johan Lange - Wolves (First team coach)

Wolves can today confirm the appointment of Johan Lange as first team coach.

The highly-rated 32-year-old Dane is to leave FC Copenhagen and link up again with Wolves boss Ståle Solbakken when he reports to Compton this week.

Lange had previously worked within the youth set-up at Copenhagen before being promoted to the role of assistant coach.

He will join the backroom staff at Wolves as first team coach with Terry Connor continuing as assistant manager.

Wolves CEO Jez Moxey said: "We have previously stated that Ståle was going to be bringing in a coach to supplement our backroom staff and are delighted to welcome Johan to the Club.

"He is a young coach with an impressive pedigree who is highly thought of in Denmark following his work with Copenhagen, and will add fresh ideas and approach to the qualities already in place with our existing backroom staff."

Lange's previous coaching experience includes working with Danish sides B93 and Lyngby, before taking up a position with the School of Excellence at FC Copenhagen in December, 2008.

He graduated from that position to work closely with Solbakken and his assistant Bard Wiggen, and then became number two himself after Solbakken's departure, to former Swedish international and Sheffield Wednesday and Coventry defender Roland Nilsson.

Solbakken says: "When I knew that we would be able to bring Johan in he was the coach I wanted to come and work with me at Wolves.

"I took him under my wing at Copenhagen and he was the second assistant I worked with at the Club.

"He is the youngest coach ever to achieve the highest coaching qualification in Denmark and he has many different qualities to offer.

"He can work with the players on the training ground, but can also be looking at players and the opposition - he has a very good eye for football.

"He will be there with Terry to assist me and I am looking forward to working with him again."

FC Copenhagen's Sporting Director Carsten Jensen has wished Lange all the best in his new role.

"Johan has received an offer to continue his development as a coach somewhere else, and FC Copenhagen will not stand in the way of his desire to pursue this option," said Jensen.

"On behalf of FC Copenhagen, we offer our great thanks to Johan for his efforts here, and good luck in the future."

George McCartney - West Ham (free transfer)

West Ham United are delighted to announce that George McCartney has re-joined the Club on a permanent two-year contract following his departure from Sunderland.

The Belfast-born left-back returns to east London after two successful previous spells, following a two-year stint between 2006 and 2008 with an outstanding season-long loan stay last season.

McCartney becomes the Club's fourth summer capture following the arrivals of goalkeepers Jussi Jaaskelainen and Stephen Henderson from Bolton Wanderers and Portsmouth respectively and Senegal international midfielder Mohamed Diame from Wigan Athletic.

"I am delighted to be coming back to West Ham and this time on a permanent basis," said the popular No3, who won West Ham's Players' Player of the Year award last season.

"It was great to be part of the side that won promotion for the club last season. It was a fantastic way to end the campaign last year and I am really looking forward to being back in the Premier League with West Ham."

After starting his career at Sunderland, where he won the Championship title and Player of the Year award in 2004/05, McCartney moved south in 2006.

The former Northern Ireland international excelled during his first stay in east London, scoring once in 71 appearances in all competitions. After moving back to the Stadium of Light in 2008, McCartney spent two seasons with Sunderland and one on loan at Leeds United.

Having fallen out of favour at the Stadium of Light, the 31-year-old returned to West Ham on loan in August 2011, scoring one goal in 43 appearances in all competitions as the Hammers gained promotion at Wembley via the npower Championship Play-Offs.

Mehmet Topal - Fenerbahce (€4.5 million)

Turkish international Mehmet Topal has completed his transfer to Fenerbahce from Valencia for a fee of €4.5 million.

The midfielder nicknamed the 'Spider' has signed a 4 year contract with the Istanbul giants. Topal will receive €2 million per season and a €10,000 bonus per appearance.

The Yellow Canaries have struggled in the defensive midfield position last season and are hopeful that Topal will strengthen the squad.

Last season Topal played 28 times for Valencia and enjoyed a successful Europa League campaign in which he helped Los Che reach the semi-finals of the competition.

The 26 year old dual footed Turkish international joined Valencia in 2010 for €5.5 million

I thought Seedorf would've brought something extra to the team, not only his vast experience, but his composure on the ball and passing ability would've helped the team for a year.

Bosingwa and Kalou are decent squad players, though we've got enough of them now Cole and Aquilani have returned, and I thought Hoilett had already signed with Borussia Monchengladbach, I would love to see him here though.

Incredible that Danny "10 times better player than Lucas will ever be" Guthrie has been allowed to go to Reading on a free.

What is the world coming to.

Deschamps has left marseille..... Perhaps AVB to spurs isn't as nailed on as expected..

Carlos Cuellar - Sunderland (free transfer)

Martin O'Neill has completed his first permanent signing as Sunderland manager by securing the signature of experienced defender Carlos Cuellar.

The 30-year-old, who was a free agent, has penned a two-year deal at the Stadium of Light.

The Spanish defender is primarily a centre-back but can also play in either full-back position.

Cuellar's move sees him reunited with O'Neill after the pair had a successful two-year spell working together at Aston Villa between 2008 and 2010.

Madrid-born Cuellar rose through the leagues in his homeland, spending time with Calahorra and Numancia before joining Osasuna in 2003.

He helped Los Rojillos to the final of the Copa del Rey and qualification for the Champions' League as well as the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup.

Cuellar joined Scottish Premier League side Rangers in July 2007 and enjoyed a fantastic 2007-08 season, making a club-record 65 appearances in all competitions.

He also won the SPL Player of the Season award and the Scottish Football Writers' prize during a campaign which saw Rangers reach the last four of the UEFA Cup.

The defender's form drew the attention of O'Neill and Aston Villa, who parted with a £7.8m fee to bring him to the Midlands in August 2008.

He was a crowd favourite at Villa Park, making 123 appearances and scoring three goals in four seasons with the club.

Karim El Ahmadi - Aston Villa (£2.5million)

Karim El Ahmadi is looking forward to "dictating games" from the centre of midfield after completing a move from Dutch Eredivisie runners-up Feyenoord.

The 27-year-old Moroccan international has signed a three-year deal which will take him up to the end of the 2014-15 season at Villa.

He is new manager Paul Lambert's first signing and the Villa boss is "looking forward to working with him" when he reports for pre-season training with the rest of the Villa squad on Thursday.

El Ahmadi was recognised as one of the top players in Holland's Eredivisie last season and, having been one of the driving forces behind an impressive season for Feyenoord in which they secured a Champions League place, he is ready to embrace the challenge of making a similar impact for Villa in the Premier League.

"I'm very excited about coming here to a massive club and I'm looking forward to playing here," he said.

"I'm very happy that the manager wants me and that the club wants me and I'm looking forward to starting training again.

"It's nice that I am the manager's first transfer and I am looking forward to doing good things with the team and with the club this year.

"This club should be competing in the top half of the table and I am looking forward to achieving that with the team.

"It was always a dream of mine to play in the Premier League. We played a lot on Sundays in Holland, so I was able to watch all of the games on Saturday and I think this is the best league in the world. It will be a challenge to show people what I can do.

"Last year was successful for me and for Feyenoord - we qualified for the Champions League - but sometimes in life you have to make choices.

"I came to this club and spoke to the people here and they gave me great confidence in what we can do this year, so I have chosen to come.

"As a player, I always want to have the ball and that is my main quality. I always want the ball and to dictate the game. That's what I did at Feyenoord and hopefully I can show the fans, the club and the manager my quality."

El Ahmadi is excited, too, by the prospect of linking up with Australian wide midfield player and fellow new arrival Brett Holman, a player El Ahmadi rated as one of the top exponents during his time at Alkmaar.

"I've played against Brett a lot of times, not only when he was at AZ but when he was younger he played at Feyenoord," El Ahmadi added.

"He's a great player and it's good for him, too, to come to a club like this and to make a step up.

"In Holland he showed his quality and now it's good to have him next to me. He's a great player to play with and he never gives up - I don't think I ever saw him standing still on the pitch."

El Ahmadi's quality and work ethic were key in the Villa manager's assessment of his first signing.

"Karim will help the team, I have no doubt about that," said Lambert.

"He's a really good footballer and he's played well in a good team, a big team, and I'm looking forward to working with him.

"In fact, I'm really looking forward to getting things going on Thursday when the lads will report back for pre-season."
