Ya because you quitting Liverpool really propelled your career.

The only recent player I can ever remember quitting and doing well was Macca.

He'll be 30 at the end of this season and after 12 years in the first team delivering world class performances that draw plaudits from the games greatest players, he deserves far better in his final years than playing with the shite Rafa has surrounded him with.

Depending on how this season turns out, Stevie leaving can't be ruled out and I think we'd all have to be far more circumspect about it than previously because he's got every right to try and won one last major trophy.

I don't think he will leave but I wouldn't be all that surprised if he went to Barca or Real if we fail to get into the CL next season.

He's had his chance to move, but it didn't so I can promise you it won't happen now.

Collymore is a fucking bellend.

Stan Collymore: Why Steven Gerrard must quit Liverpool FC
Dec 6 2009

FORMER Liverpool FC striker Stan Collymore is calling on Steven Gerrard to leave Anfield "in search of the Premier League".

Collymore believes the Reds ace will never win the ultimate goal while with Liverpool and he says many players in the current squad are not good enough to play alongside Gerrard.

"It's time for Steven Gerrard to put his loyalty to Liverpool to one side and go in search of the one honour that has eluded him - the Premier League," he writes in his latest column for MirrorFootball.co.uk.

"He's not going to see that day while he's wearing a red shirt and as sad as it is for me to say this as a former Liverpool player, I think it is time for him to leave Anfield.

"I was at Blackburn on Saturday and players like Lucas, Rieira and Kuyt don't deserve to play with him to be honest."

Collymore thinks Gerrard has more chance of winning a domestic title with Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan and Inter Milan.

He said: "I've seen him lift the European Cup and I'd love to see him lift the Premier League trophy, but it won't be as a Rafa Benitez player and I'm not sure it will ever happen for him as a Liverpool player.

"I'm not saying this to try and wind up Liverpool fans. I just think it would be a tragedy if after seeing inferior players to him like Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick win the title, he didn't.

"I know he says he wants to stay at Liverpool, but the only thing that is keeping him there is the fact that he's a Scouser and that he has the club in his blood.

"Ultimately, he owes Liverpool b***er all. He's done more than any other player over the last decade to bring success to Liverpool.

"It's time for someone else, like Alberto Aquilani, to take on that pressure and free him to go.

"He shouldn't feel that he has to stay to pacify the fans and they should let him go and win the title he deserves before it's too late."

I feel sorry for Stevie. He's a phenomenal player who may never know what it's like to lift the PL Crown.

You can harp on about 'through and through' until the cows come home.

Reality is, a top players career spans 10 years in the top flight (if they're lucky) and their aim should be to win as much silverware as possible.

He won't leave Liverpool now.

It'll be really sad if he never gets to win the league though. He deserves more medals than he'll end up with.

Although his article isn't without its logic, the thing that undermines it is its motivation. Collymore has never seemed that bothered before about Stevie's medal collection, so it seems a bit arbitrary for the alarm clock to go off now. It's also pretty rum of him of all people to offer such advice, seeing as, after a blip of ambition brought him to us, he then proceeded to behave as though he was anxious to avoid chasing after silverware, or England caps, rather than chase them.

And Kuyt's achieved a damn sight more in his career, and made more of his ability, and done more with his life, than Collymore ever did. That's the most insulting part of the whole article. He owes that man an apology.

Yep, I often think that, and his time's running out.

There are a few players in our squad I genuinely feel sorry for, Stevie's at the top of that list, closely followed by Torres and Reina. They just deserve to be playing alongside better players than they do every week.

He will have won almost every trophy he could have, bar the World Cup - for which he's got one more shot - and the Premier League. I desperately want him to win the league and validate his decision to stay with us, but being a Liverpool supporter, I think, comes ahead of the professional footballer. Would he really get that much pleasure lifting the Premier League for Chelsea, for instance? I wouldn't, and he wouldn't either, which is why he stuck with us.

He's deserving of it, sure - but if he doesn't succeed in his quest, that's life. He's still lived his boyhood dream so I can't feel that sorry for him!

Agree with that completely.

I felt terrible for Sami when he left without ever getting to lift the title after the decade of incredible service he gave us. I'll feel even worse if Gerrard suffers the same fate. He deserves it and has given us such incredible performances for so long; he's earned whatever decision he makes.

Side note; when Agger went off with the head injury I couldn't help thinking about the time Sami went off with his head split open. Ten minutes later he's on the sidelines, head swathed in bandages; rushes on to defend a corner, rising high to meet it with a full blooded header clearing the danger. Legend.

Collymore is a grade A bell-end.

I'd actually prefer to listen Ian Wright, as at least when Ian Wright shouts ever louder in an attempt to make up for his lack of intelligence it's not shouting in a Brummy accent.

How old was Bryan Robson when he won the league with the Scum?

Very similar situation.

He could still be here another 6 years and win it. So don't worry too much lads.

Aw, come on, we don't want our ex-pros to toe the party line. I find his candour rather refreshing. And he HAS apologised for beating the shit out of women.
