Clint Dempsey

Podolski is clearly better. To not fit into Bayern Munichs bunch of psychopats doesn't proof your mentally weak does it? Podolski is a star signing and one we should have done. Fantastic player with a killer instinct. And with almost 1000 games for Germany, and being club idol and captian in Cologne I can't see that Dempseys experience is worth more? Maybe he is better in the air. So is Andy Carrol. I wouldn't rate Andy better than Podolsky based on that one.

Bayern has never been the easiest of clubs to fit into, but plenty have managed it. In any case the problem wasn't so much Bayern itself but the fact that Podolski was lost away from 1.FC Koln. I'm far from convinced that he's any better equipped for the move to the Arse now.

Let's agree to differ about whether Podolski's better than Dempsey. Leaving aside the fact that 1000 games for Germany would mean he must have won his first cap somewhere around the time of the First World War 😉, his becoming club captain and idol in familiar surroundings doesn't seem to me to mean much at all, especially when his only previous attempt to move elsewhere came to grief - in contrast to Dempsey who's made a success of things in a totally different country. Dempsey's also better out on the left, where Podolski's never done anything worthwhile - his left foot's for shooting, not crossing. Dempsey's also a lot less one-footed. I'm confident Dempsey will score more goals per game played than Podolski if he signs for us for next season.

For the first time since speculation began, Jol has confessed that the club may have to sell one of their most-prized assets this transfer window, as the club confirmed via their official Twitter account that Dempsey is eyeing the exit door.

"If we get the right price for Clint we will sell him. If not, he will stay," Jol told reporters.

"We want to keep him but it's impossible because he wants to go. Clint wants to go to a Champions League club.

"We have money to invest, but only in the right players."

It was also confirmed at the press conference that the American will be left out of the club's opening Premier League fixture against Norwich, as they seek to protect their investment before he departs.

If the fee is right, don't think Assaidi will be stumbling block. The latter might be a squad signing. For example, Lita and Routledge's combined cost was equivalent to Graham but the both of them played bit part roles, esp. Lita.

Someone closing in on 200 Premier League appearances and close to 30 goals over the past 2 seasons vs. a rookie on the Premier League scene.

We don't have CL football to offer him though. 😳

I think some of you are seing this the wrong way. If Carroll leaves we need a back up striker. We need someone like Dempsey who can play in the middle or on the wing in a three man forward line. Assaidi isnt a striker.

I know. So ? Shut up or I'll jaw you. Or I may post a really long post about how fucking right I am OK ?
maybe youd perfer a poest about my forts on the game wiff lots ov gramatikle errers and no full stops commas or capital lettas because they styful my kreeaytivity

Fulham manager Martin Jol has slammed Liverpool for unsettling Clint Dempsey after the American forward was left out of the Cottagers' squad for their Premier League opener against Norwich on Saturday.

Dempsey pulled out of Fulham's pre-season training camp in Switzerland earlier this month after Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers told his own club's website that he had made an inquiry about the player.

But the Anfield club have yet to follow up their interest with an official bid for Dempsey, who has one year left on his contract, and former Tottenham boss Jol has been infuriated by the Anfield club's behaviour.

“That was very disappointing,” Jol said on Friday. “There was never an offer. Clint himself told everyone he was going to Liverpool so we really thought there was quite a firm interest in him.

“Even (Rodgers) told everyone he was interested in Clint Dempsey, but our people never had an offer on the table, so it's almost embarrassing.

“If you have shown interest in a player, especially in England, you have to follow it up with an offer. They didn't.”

Now Jol admits the situation has left Dempsey unsettled and not in the right frame of mind to face Norwich at Craven Cottage this weekend.

“Clint was not involved over the last four weeks so he is not going to be in the squad. He is not committed to the club. He wants to leave,” Jol said.

“I would like to keep him, but I think it's impossible. It's a sad and an almost embarrassing situation.”

Dempsey, 29, has been training separately from his team-mates since Liverpool's interest emerged, but Jol insists the American, who scored 23 goals last season, will not be sold cheaply.

“Maybe Liverpool will come back,” Jol said. “I can assure you that our chairman is strong enough. At first we didn't want to get rid of him, later on we had to change our position.

“But our view is that we won't let Clint Dempsey go on the cheap, that's for sure.”

Well, not very nice if true.
We don't like when others (e.g. Barca) do it to us, so I hope it's just Jol's perspective of the situation.

You can never tell with Jol. Sometimes he's fine but sometimes, when he's rattled, he flies off into the realms of fantasy.

I bet we'd tapped him up then he demanded too much.

Either that or we are gonna wait til transfer deadline day then get him on the cheap cos he's unsettled there & is demanding a move.

Tbh, maybe we should be doing shit like this, every other club does it to get players on the cheap.
