I don't know Judge - I just don't like looking at fat slow players in our team, its really disturbing and a bad influence on the kids coz they may grow up thinking that they can be that fat and a pro footballer. Just not on is it ? bad for kids bad for us too.

Like, I don't hate him or anything. Actually i've always liked him but I don't necessarily want to splash the cash on him. I think we'd all learn to like him. He'd try hard, has a decent touch, link up play is decent, get into dangerous positions etc but it's still all a bit MEH.

Well, I reckon those who have called him "sh!te" on here are talking sh!te themselves. He's strong, confident and versatile, a good athlete who's in decent enough shape to play a fair while longer yet at the top level. I'd be disappointed if he were the summit of our ambitions, but I don't think he is and I would be fine with signing him for the right money.
My guess is that the ones branding him *shite* is just comparing him to the Agueros, Van Persies and Podolskis that our rivals are signing. it is a bit sad to see our ambitions to brake into CL being mirrored in: Clint Dempsey, 29 yo American, playing for Fulham.

If he was our biggest signing of the summer, I would agree with you. But that's not the case at all. We have lost several good squad players this summer (Kuyt, Bellamy, Maxi...), we need at least one good squad player to replace them with. From that perspective, you could do much worse than Clint Dempsey.
As I and others have said, though, our ambitions aren't just being mirrored in Dempsey. And what does his nationality have to do with anything?
BTW I'm not at all sure I rate Podolski any higher than Dempsey. He's younger and his left foot is better, but Dempsey is more experienced and versatile, mentally stronger (Podolski's had one failed attempt to leave Cologne already) and a sod of a lot better in the air.
Podolski is clearly better. To not fit into Bayern Munichs bunch of psychopats doesn't proof your mentally weak does it? Podolski is a star signing and one we should have done. Fantastic player with a killer instinct. And with almost 1000 games for Germany, and being club idol and captian in Cologne I can't see that Dempseys experience is worth more? Maybe he is better in the air. So is Andy Carrol. I wouldn't rate Andy better than Podolsky based on that one.
No the marquee signing is obvious Joe Allen.
