Chabby Alonso

I'm gonna refrain from posting about this any further until it happens, anyone who posted on here when we sold him knows I didn't handle it well, so to avoid further melt downs, I'm not playing!

I've wanted Alonso back ever since he left but I just don't see how we'll accommodate both him and Gerrard in midfield.
Gerrard isn't that dynamic box to box player any more. He plays a lot deeper nowadays it's pretty much Xabi's role.
Also, what would it do to Henderson, Allen, Shelvey, Suso etc who are fighting for those places?

Shelvey will go out on loan next season, Suso possibly will too. As for Gerrard, he could play further forward, tbh if we were playing with Gerrard, Lucas and Allen in the same midfield, we could replace Alonso for Allen no trouble.

I don't really care is lesser players are struggling to get games if we have a better player in the team.

Couldn't give a shit about the players you listed. They can sit on the bench or buggar off.
Suarez, as has been the case recently, can be the middle of the '3' in a 4-2-3-1. Gerrard can wonder around, Xabi can play as the disciplined player sitting back and dictating the game.
Gerrard used to play in the middle of the '3', which required a high work rate. Not so much if he plays in the less disciplined role amongst the '2', which he enjoys playing now anyway.

It's a valid point. I'd never turn down Alonso.

I love Alonso, bu I Think we might be idealizing him a wee bit...still would have him back. Loyal, classy players like that are hard to find.

A Commanding Centre Back.. Another Forward and Xabi.. you would think we will be set to make a challenge next year..

Still not totally convinced with Brendon mind.. but my head is starting to turn.

The way things ended between Xabi Alonso and Rafa can make us forget that Xabi was Rafa's first signing. That's how important Rafa considered him at the start, and that's how important he could be again if he comes into the young, talented and developing side we're building.

Buy buy buy.

Still would be lacking steel in midfield though. Alonso played his best when next to mascherano. Midfield steel should be our number 1 priority.

I doubt it TBH. As others have said, his defensive ability was consistently undervalued, but even so I'm not sure I think it would be good enough for him to be a CB at the highest level.

Has informed Real that he wont sign a new deal

Is it known why?

He is playing with and for a bunch of dickheads but it's strange for a player to leave such a big club whilst they're still wanted and with seemingly nowhere to go.

He's become quite a dickhead on the pitch too - moaning to refs all the time etc.

I think there is almost no chance Real will let him go this summer. It would be a folly on their part. But in 2014 we'll have a real chance to get Xabi back - if Rodgers wants him and if he wants to return here rather then finish his career at Sociedad.

Good afternoon counsel, how goes the battle?

I'd like to think Xabi Alonso is one player who might look for more than just the biggest payday. However, that might depend on *how* big the offers he gets turn out to be.

#rumour Liverpool have held informal talks with Alonso's agent about the possibility of bringing him back to Anfield.

Hey your Honor! I'm reminded of that disturbing scene in "Knight's Tale" when Paul Bettany's character is introduced walking nude down the road; when asked what he's doing, he replies "I'm trudging." About sums it up. You?

I agree, and LA has been looking for the next big (aging) midfield name for a while now. I much rather they get Lampard.

I can't see it happening.

It's not like he's desperate. He could stay at one of the best clubs in the world if he wanted to and compete for the games finest trophies. Alonso left us when we were significanty better than we are now. I cannot see why the challenge of restoring us to a top four position would be all that appealing.
