Carroll - I wasn't given a chance

Impressive without scoring.

Sounds so familiar.

But I too did not want him gone.

Did he take the chances he were given though?

The majority of the time I don't think he did. Everyone just remembers the boss times in the cups and in the league when it didn't quite matter at more. To be honest I don't care, he's not playing for us this season (first half at least) and I don't believe he would have greatly contributed with goals more than anyone else we've got. His movement isn't as good as Borini, he hasn't the pace or energy of Sterling, his goals via headers isn't as prolific as Skrtel nor is he the Suarez type of player. He has a thunderous left foot mind.

I hope he does well in West Ham just so that we can sell him and put the whole saga behind us (please don't be an Aqua!!!).

Oh come on RM, that's a tad hypocritical - people just remember the boss times, that you've decided were when it 'didn't really matter anymore'? Sure he put in some poor performances early in the season, but he did it against big sides in games when it did matter. Just because part of that was in the league cup and the rest was when we were trying to salvage some dignity in the league, shouldn't make it easily dismissed. He can only do it in the games he was played in and the point was proven, when he 'finally' got a run during Suarez' absence, he got fitter, sharper and began to perform.

Andy Carroll was fucking lazy for the first half of last year, then when he bothered he was just good. It was not unreasonable for Rogers to write him off, it was just unreasonable of all responsible to not have a replacement.

Like I said, I don't really care.

He had a lot more poor games than he did good ones that's all I know. It wasn't until the last few months of the season that he decided to make an effort. He's alright but we need a lot better than what his limited game offers.

Let's face it he never had a decent chance full stop, Kenny fucked him over, at least Rogers was honest

regards

I'm not so sure thats what happened to be honest, he arrived injured and spent seemingly a very long time before he even looked vaguely dangerous I dont think Kenny had much choice the position we were in having wasted 80M and knowing he was for the chop unless successful. If Carroll has any grievance it is probably that his better games came in important matches towards the end of his stay but truth be told 30 barnstorming minutes against Chelsea and a couple of nice performances for England in summer are not enough. We needed a 35M pound striker IMO it took him a year to look like he even cared let alone warranted such a big fee.

I hope he plays well so that we can try and recoup a fair fee for him.

We were never going to get a 35M striker in Carroll. We paid stupid money for him but it wasnt his fault that we were so stupid.

It's not even the fee as that's not his fault. I just don't think he's any good. He's average but not great.
