Couldn't care less

Carra needed to put a hard tackle in on Nani as soon as possible. He's a lot quicker than carra, and if it weren't for that tackle Nani could have raped that side of the park.

If that were anyone else on the receiving end, I think Carra would have been sent. Nani's the boy who cried wolf too many time in the past
[/quote]

Yeah i was thinking the same.

He's conned the ref's 100's of times in the past, so he can't have too many complaints about this one not going his way.

Which is my point , doing nothing would have been more of a risk to the outcome

fortunate we had Dowd - the consummate homer ref - overseeing the game, otherwise we would be down to 10 men and giving them an opportunity to get back into the game

Silly of Carra and he knows he should not be doing it

Yeah, Carra stabbed Rafa with a fork in his nob or something didn't he Rebel? And now all the superfans hate him?

Confirmed: no retrospective FA action on Carragher lunge, Rafael lunge or scenes that followed. Now shoot the messenger

Do you and Pat just try to be deliberately controversial for the sake of it? It just makes you sound like a poster who doesn't really understand the rivalry at all.

He got away with it, Nani cried like a big fucking girl, we damaged their chances, we won emphatically. Get over it and be happy FFS.

I reckon they think it makes them sound more considered and intelligent. In fact, it just makes them sound like Mark Lawrenson.

it doesn't matter if he got away with it, was still stupid, unprofessional and could have been costly potentially offering our rivals a way back into the game despite us battering them and having a 2-0 lead

i'm not being controversial just providing an honest analysis and yeah i'm delighted we won

In fairness Vlad, it's not really about 'getting it'. I think we all get it, it's just that some of us think it was at best, an unnecessary risk, and at worst, downright foolish.

The fact that he got away with it is neither here nor there. More often than not, that challenge would see him walk. He's lucky it didn't on this occasion. Your assumption that Nani would have saved the day for them doesn't really add up, for me. He'd had very little impact up to that point, and we were defending very well as a team anyway. Any time Utd got the ball near one of our fullbacks they were quickly surrounded. It's possible that they would have mounted a comeback in the second half, but it's equally possible that we would have continued in the ascendancy.

Besides, if Carra had been sent off, and Nani could have carried on, where would that have left us? With Kyrgiakos already replacing the injured Aurelio, we had no other defenders on the bench. So it would essentially have left us a man down, with just 3 defenders and a makeshift fullback, for 45 minutes. Not to mention Carragher out for 3 games (and we all know what Skrtel and Kyrgiakos are like when left to their own devices). That's not really a calculated risk, is it? Or if it is, I would certainly like to cast my eye over the calculations. Given the circumstances, it was a foolish and unnecessary risk which didn't win us the game (IMO), but could have cost us the game.

Of course, that doesn't alter the fact that it's a great source of amusement, and the horrible cunt Nani got was coming to him. So for those reasons alone, I'm delighted with how it turned out!

I think most people are being, at worst, flippant about it, because we all know Carra and know it's not really a challenge you'd associate with him. It was clumsy, shit happens, it's not like he makes a habit of it, and I doubt there was any intent. Gerrard's done it enough times WITH intent, I think Carra can be given the benefit of the doubt after more than a decade of being a true pro in every sense.

I find it a bit bizarre that people think he went in there with the intent to cause injury, however much of a cunt Nani is and who he plays for, it's just not in Carra's nature is it? It was stupid yeah but in the sense it was poorly timed rather than malicious.

Why is it that people jump on Rebel's posts even if they are absolutely sensible? Carra had no right to be making a challenge like that. It was on the half-way line, we were coasting to HT with a 2-0 lead against the scum. Rebel is right, it was an ill considered lunge worthy of a red whether he meant to hurt Nani or not, and a player with his experience shouldn't oughta have done it. He risked us playing *another* game against the scum with 10 men. These are indisputable facts.

I love Carra but it was very silly.

I love Carra too and I agree it was a moment of madness.

Luckily Dowd wanted to keep 11-a-side if at all possible, gave him a ticking off and let it go there.

SIR ALEX FERGUSON has finally broken his silence – and branded Jamie Carragher a disgrace for the foul that crocked Nani.

The Manchester United boss had blanked the media after his criticism of referee Martin Atkinson following his side’s defeat at Chelsea landed him with an FA charge.

Fergie refused to speak in the aftermath of Sunday’s 3-1 defeat by Liverpool. But he made his feelings clear yesterday about Carragher’s challenge at Anfield, which was late and high and left Nani with a deep gash to his shin. He is out of today’s FA Cup clash with Arsenal at Old Trafford and is expected to be sidelined until next month.

Liverpool star Carragher escaped with a booking, despite his lunge leaving Nani with a cut so deep that medical experts have only just been able to stitch it up.

Fergie said: “You just have to move on from it, there’s nothing you can do about it.

“Obviously it was a disgraceful tackle, we know that, but you just move on. The wound was too wide. We sent him to the hospital to see what they could do, and our own doctor and the surgeon there managed to get it stitched up, which was fantastic.

“The alternative would have been to wait and just let it heal. With an open wound, infection is obviously a big problem, and swelling.

“We’re still worried about infection. He has to have it examined every day and make sure there’s no moisture in it, that it drie up quickly.â€

Fergie, has got a point about not talking to the press, he said it was a disraceful tackle, as it was, he didn't brand Carra a disgrace .... the press need to behave. One of the things worth watching in the Kenny media thread is Kenny telling an interviewer to behave himself .... quality....

Why would I be interested in being fair to any point Ferguson makes? What is this horseshit with the new evolved Liverpool fan?

Everything Ferguson says is completely biased and unapologetically hypocritical. He's defended vicious tackles in the past, I recall Scholes and Vidic off the top of my head, I seem to recall him avoiding condemning Keane's assault on Haaland.

And on diving he's been equally ridiculous. Torres and Nani being the most recent example.

The only time he's ever fair is when they are in a very very comfortable position and are winning. Fuck Ferguson.

He doesn't "have a point" in not talking to the press either, he's just abusing a contractual obligation, as he has in the past, and it's high time he didn't get away with it. If he had an ounce of personality, he'd be fine, especially considering how celebrated he is, but instead he's just this embittered cunt.

Carragher has not shown himself to be a dirty player after years and years of playing, and I think it's a bit of a leap to think he intended to really injure Nani in some significant way, though I imagine he was trying to be very physical with him, and put him off, and he certainly was more than clumsy. He probably thought he could get at Nani, and no wonder, considering he cries like a bitch.

It's fucking bizarre to read posters trying to read Ferguson sympathetically while taking pains to condemn what Carragher did.

Oops.
