Another anti salah post for @rubans and @Dreambeliever to dismantle!
Was all about pretext, context and balance. I think you missed nuance in the posts before dear…

He was OK today and should have been more selfish on the one he chose to pass but then some will miss that claim he is always selfish. i didn’t think we were great today and sloppy throughout but getting the point was more important..

I think Salah is trying to prove that he’s worthy of the contract extension. If only he’d realise that if passes to a better-placed teammate, he’ll still get plaudits.
He’s taking up some excellent positions. To pass to teammates.
This is the truth of the matter, and if he continues to do this at some point it becomes seious enough we will lose a game. He needs to lessen his personal need to score goals and not put it before the team.

Oy! Be nice Mr Rubans!

Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaatings time.

Kelleher 7 - Shaky start, like too slow at times with his distribution , one brilliant saves and some other bits of good handling.

Trent 7 - Started off some nice moves, not as many hollywood attempts which was nice and more involved in actual build up play.....that said, he still gets bypassed too easily (see Kelleher's brilliant one handed save).

Ibou 6 - First half was a 5, 2nd half a 7. Got away with the disallowed goal they scored? Easily his poorest game this season.

Virgil 7.5 - Didn't really put a foot wrong but can't score him much higher as Evanilson really didn't put up much of a fight.

Robbo 6 - Tough to score, looked like he did ok without really having to do much. In games like his I'd rather he was used more offensively.

Grav 8 - There were 3 or 4 sloppy passes from the Grav but he was involved in so much that was good about our play. Like Szobo, he should be taking more efforts from range.

Mac 7.5 - Thought that was his best game for us this season.

Szobo 5 - Shit. Get the ball, turn, run, lose the ball and repeat.

Salah 5.5 - See Szobo but at least he had a few moments where he did beat his fullback.

Nunez 7 - Smashing goal, would've had another if not cleared off the line as was never handball. Quiet game otherwise.

Diaz 9 - 2 well taken goals and some of his dribbling before the first was lovely, beat 3 players but really needed to pass instead of taking the shot.

Jones 7 - Thought he had a decent cameo tbh.
Chiesa 6 - All I remember was 1 effort from 25 yards and 1 where he argued with the ref after giving the ball away but we don't really seem to give our subs much chance in any game because the last 15-20 mins have all been so flat and boring.
Gakpo 6 - Not much to shout out about, but again the game being dead and buried didn't help matters.

I was giving you heads up as you are mo's #2 chief of staff on site (sorry, dreamy is #1)
Yes, that’s right how awful of a person to post in defense of our best striker the against agenda driven post previously.
There are more than 2 of us though but maybe you are a newbie. Mo’s fan club is here for this season and post his contract expiry this season.

Who said it was awful! Sheesh - don't get all upset.

Mo is legend ... and his place in club history is guaranteed, and only for good stuff obviously

Are you ok? A bit personal today, bored?

Not sure what bad stuff you are on about but don’t have any care to find out, enjoy Mo’s goals.

I'm ok, I guess.

Nah not bored... a bit tired but aren't we all at night?

Who said anything about bad stuff? I enjoy all the goals if honest, by any reds 😃

Admins, I’d like to report a forum bug - a post from some other game somehow ended up in this thread. Because clearly this was not the game we all watched.

Szobo and Mo were fucking shite.

Grav and Diaz were boss.

The rest were decent to good, without being overly worked.

Konate? Kelleher? Robbo?
I've explained my ratings....

Kelleher's distribution wasn't good and the fuck up which led to their first big chance knocks him down.
Ibou got away with their disallowed goal and looked a mess first half when put under pressure.
Robbo was meh.

Didn't think any were great so 6/7s feel right.

Very surprised Ibou is getting such high praise.

Thought he was easily our biggest weak link in defence in the first half, especially in the first 20 where he was exposed multiple times.

Virgil on the other hand was assured.

You love handing out bonus points for assists and Konate had one.

The squad is obvs very good and that makes the decisions difficult, I just can't get the idea that you take off Diaz for Chiesa today when Salah was playing like Calvert Lewin and Diaz was playing like Roy of the Rovers
Diaz is injury prone and playing superbly. Game was won. Take off and protect your fragile, most valuable assets. At the moment in the vein of form he’s in, Diaz is that. Made perfect sense to take him off.
Salah had some decent moments, assisted the third goal, was also nicely involved in the build up to the second but ultimately made a lot of poor decisions when clearly chasing a goal as he often does.
I’m surprised people wanted Slot to take him off early. While on the surface that might have made sense but I think that’s too short term, results focused thinking and considering the result was put to bed in the first half then that was not the optimal play. Trying to continue to build Salah’s early season form was a better strategy in a game where more goals were there for the taking.
Whether we like it or not Salah is not used to being taken off, least of all 20 odd minutes before the end. He’s our star player and currently expects to play and importantly is flying fit and the least likely to breakdown of the front 3.
If I was Slot, I’d have done exactly what he did. Why risk squad unrest and possible a negative press story when there was little to no upside to it (apart from appeasing some fans desire to see Salah hooked)
One of the few criticisms we had of Klopp was that he didn’t protect players in meaningless games or didn’t take off players who were prone to injury early enough.
In this department I give Slot an B so far (wish he’d rest Ibou a little) otherwise it’s an A.
Jota, full rest today.
Diaz in the form of his life but prone to injury and getting his minutes managed superbly imo.
Trent too has had minor rest a couple of times with Bradley getting minutes.
Even Nunez, Slot mentioned he’s getting fitter which hints that he wasn’t fully fit to start the season.
Jones - slight injury - being eases back in.
Elliott - protecting his broken foot.

Bravo Slot, you got the subs spot on today imo.
It’s not about defending Salah here (I do that enough elsewhere when we talk output like goals and assists), it’s about making the best long term decisions when the short term outcome (result of the immediate game) is already decided.

I thought Szoboslai struggled in the second half and Mo poor throughout the game, Gravenberg was top man.
Dom was poor second half, Salah, linked up for the second and played a great quick first time ball to set Nunez away for the third.
He was poor otherwise but yet against his best moments helped decide the game and as such was not ‘poor throughout’ imo.

No bonuses for assists, they are an integral part of a the game, weighed more heavily the further forward you play. Hence the likes of Salah (who I assume you allude to) will always be praised more for an assist than a CB as that’s his primarily role (making sure we score goals)
Ibou’s is to ensure he don’t concede and he was all over the shop first half imo. We could easily have conceded two or three goals and he would have been the prime culprit.
I was very surprised Slot didn’t take him off at half time as he lost so many duels, was poor on the ball under pressure and his positioning was suspect on numerous occasions. It’s like some fans ignore all that because he slides in and wins the ball (which granted is brilliant to watch when it works). Sometime he reminds me of a much better Skrtel, but with the same gaps in his game.
Virgil on the other hand was sensational today (esp in the air).
Granted a few seem to think he had a great game so maybe I need to rewatch it but ya on first impressions, I had him in the bottom bracket of performers along side Dom and Salah.

This isn’t my Mo agenda, but to call that an assist is pushing it despite it being in the fantasy footy rule book.

He was fucking shite today and him staying on does more against squad harmony than staying on. Being shit and staying on ahead of Diaz who didn’t start on Tuesday is a piss take. Basically he’s said Mo does what he fucking wants.

You can point to Mo’s early form but he’s been shite in half our games so far.

I’ve not alluded to anything. Then you make my point about handing an assist to Mo when Nunez had to do so much to make the goal happen.

Overall, there wasn’t too much between the two. Both looked shaky at times and having the weight of an assist may push it more in Konate’s way.

Diaz is injury prone? This is the same Diaz who missed one PL match last season when his dad was kidnapped? The rest of your post may make sense - I have no idea as I stopped reading after "Diaz is injury prone"

That’s the little things people often nail him for. If he takes a touch and gets brushed off it, people complain. It was a superb first time pass around the corner at pace to set Nunez away. Of course from there it was all Nunez but the 100% Salah’s ball started it off. If he stays with his back to goal and plays the way he’s facing there, people don’t even talk about it.

Missing 28 games is enough for me to call any player injury prone after that.
Hopefully he doesn’t get another one but I would 100% be protecting him as much as possible in a season where we are potentially going to be playing more games than ever before.
Him and Jota should be managed accordingly.
