Post Match Leicester (H) 3-1 Boxing Day 20:00

Why are you so hellbent on us figuring a way to score more from corners? Are you really that envious of what Arsenal are doing you’d be happy to see us imitate and fail? We’re not them (thank fuck). Neither are the other 18 teams, you don’t see them trying to copy?

We don’t need to, we ditched the crossing bullshit and reverted back to playing the football that’s got us this far. That’s kinda my point.
I don't care and I think Slot is allowed some leeway when it comes to trying new stuff.
This wasn't exactly the CL final.
It's not that big of a deal.

We don’t need to sink low to imitate other teams just because it works for them, it didn’t today over a fairly large sample size, once we ditched it and focused on playing our football, what happened?
I think the average goals to corners ratio (all teams) is around 1:20. It's a chance but it's rarely anything more than that.

We saw a lot of crosses yesterday because of the low block. I prefer players over-lapping and getting to the byline to cut it back (against low blocks) but we were actually unlucky not to score from those crosses, it was close.

I expected Nunez to get a lot more headed chances but he was never in the right place or the cross was poor.

Why wouldn't we copy them??
why ? why ? why ?

Is there some prize for originality that I haven't heard of? Are they going to put an asterisk next to our name when we win the league?
I thought this game was about scoring more goals.

If it winds up Arsenal fans surely that's reason enough

Exactly. And once Ibu is part of the melee we might actually score some from it.

I’m sure we did weird set piece tactics like that in first game of the season anyways

Once we went ahead, the game was done. I thought we controlled the game brilliantly, didn’t try to force the issue and picked our moments to attack.

This was very different to the Villa game where we almost gave them a way back into it due to our over eagerness to attack. Villa almost punished us in the transition a few times.

Seems to me this is something Slot worked on with the team

Took my son who lives in London the match last night. Didn't realise he hadn't been in a few years. He was blown away by the stadium inside and out, saying it felt like when we were in the bernabeau, and no wonder the opposition shits itself. Kinda weird cos it's all happened in bits and I pay no notice to all the stuff around the stadium outside, and how dominant the new stands are compared to the old ones, but the lizards have defo invested well. I think they'll probs extend the kop in a few years.

I prefer to wind Arsenal fans up about being Stoke. Seeing that yesterday made my heart sink a little.
I've no qualms with us once in a while trying an inventive set piece. We did one earlier in the season as well.
Problem is arsenal do it every single set piece

I had no problem with trying the corner routines. Problem was Trent couldn't deliver a good ball off them yesterday to save his life.

I had no problem with Trent delivering tasty crosses from deep. Problem was he was aiming at Nunez who just looks completely lost at sea these days.

Trent can absolutely get fucked off corners. He's been gash for a long time on them and I fucking cannot understand someone that talented, NOT beating the first man

Because then you're stoke and at the whims of the referee.
If we improve at free kicks and corners then... we improve at free kicks and corners! It's not like you have 100 skill points to distribute on a limited set of options. Salah and Gakpo can still cut in and shoot as much as they like. We'd just score more from set pieces as well. We were really good at set pieces for a period under Klopp, but no-one accused us of being Stoke, and we were still good at the other stuff.

But this is the thing, if we were actually good at them then yes, I'd capitalise on them. But we're not. At least at the moment we are, As Trent and Robbo seem to have lost their ability

But they haven't just thought ... oh why don't we be Arsenal. This is clearly something they have practiced and it's far too early to say whether it will be successful or not. As I mentioned earlier 1:20 is the average goals to corners ratio. If we score 2 goals in the next 16 corners we're then well ahead of that.

Can’t remember where i said this but i remember Slot trying this in pre season. Here it is

@The Nomad you can wind up your Arsenal mates that they copied it off us

Van Nistelrooy keeps 'em waiting

The assembled media were made to wait much longer than normal as Ruud van Nistelrooy took the opportunity for a post-match catch-up with Slot in the Reds boss' Anfield office.

Van Nistelrooy cared little for newspaper deadlines and took his time over his meeting with Slot. The Leicester manager, in fact, took so long that even some of his staff were getting impatient at what time they were able to get on the long trip back to the Midlands.

I thought this game was about scoring more goals.

Because we have our own identity...

Yesterday was fucking cringe and ultimately every attempt looked a shambles and was useless to us. We're not Arsenal (thank the Lord) we don't rely on some shoddy set piece tactic of pinning their keepers in to nick a goal.

We've scored the most goals in the league, 1 has come from a corner.

So we should just pass the ball back to Alisson every time we have a corner?

Or maybe just kick it into the stands since trying to score is cringe

I haven’t been in 5 years now but the last time I was, the outside was superb and the main stand was sensational. Can’t fault the lizards on the stadium front when you look at OT literally falling apart and becoming rat infested on and off the pitch!
