According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have rejected a bid from Liverpool for left back Ryan Bertrand.
The 23-year-old featured on a regular basis for the Blues last season, making 38 appearances, including 19 in the Premier League.
The youngster has also played two games for the England senior team, as well as featuring in the Great Britain Olympics team, and having represented England at under-17, under-18, under-19, under-20 and under-21 levels.
Contract
Bertrand was hoping to take over from veteran left back Ashley Cole for Chelsea this season, but he’ll have to wait a little longer as Cole has signed a contract which will keep him at Stamford Bridge until at least next summer.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers knows Bertrand well from his time as a coach in Chelsea’s youth ranks.
After this rejection though, Rodgers will have to take his search elsewhere.
Content
Bertrand is quite content at Chelsea, with three years remaining on his contract he’s happy to stay.
The newspaper quotes him as saying: “I want to be Chelsea’s No.1 left-back and when that time comes it will happen.
“All I can do is to be ready and keep playing; keep biding my time. I’m thinking of nothing else.
“To be honest, I am just focusing on being No 1. I just concentrate on progressing in the games I get.
“I’ve managed to do so in recent years and that’s the only target. You have to be able to compete.
“That’s the way you develop at the top level. That’s just the way it is, and it’s the place I want to be. So I’m used to that.”
