West Brom join race to sign Christian Benteke from Liverpool

West Bromwich Albion have joined the race to sign Christian Benteke from Liverpool.

The Baggies need to rebuild their strike-force with Saido Berahino expected to leave and Benteke will be allowed to move on at Anfield, although Liverpool are keen on recouping much of the £32.5m they paid Aston Villa last year meaning any deal will break Albion’s transfer record.

Crystal Palace are also interested in the 25-year-old, who scored nine goals in 14 league starts last season but has fallen down the pecking order under Jürgen Klopp.

Albion pulled the plug on a record £15m deal for West Ham’s Diafra Sakho last week after it became clear he would not be fit enough until September.

They want to line up a new signing before allowing Berahino to leave with the club having accepted it is time to cash in on the former England Under-21s international.

Palace also want Berahino, with an offer of £20m plus add-ons on the table, while Stoke have offered a £20m package for the 23-year-old.

Albion were bought by Yunyi Guokai (Shanghai) Sports Development Limited last week, headed by a Chinese entrepreneur, Guochuan Lai.

The new owners are prepared to give the green light to a third bid for Leicester’s Jeff Schlupp. Albion have had two bids rejected for the Ghana international but have never given up on the left-sided player. They will let the defender James Chester go, having accepted an offer from Aston Villa.

On that, I read an article today saying Pogba's deal is only 18% or so of Uniteds turnover, which percentage wise is the same as Rooney when he first joined.

Personally I think the new TV money will make the Premier League much more competitive and unpredictable, but it probably won't help us much. We're shit with stuff.

Is that the same world where LFC are trending to a zero net spend in the summer transfer window?

We've had a bloated squad which we've received decent figures for and have plenty more still left to shift.

I wouldn't resent the club running at a net profit this window at all providing they get off their arse and sign a decent LB.

In what World do Palace and WBA enter the race for £30m players?
West Brom have already rejected about 20m for Berahino. If they sign Benteke, then presumably Palace would have to go back in for Berahino with an increased bid.

Joyce saying West Brom are willing to pay the asking price but Benteke doesnt want to move there.

Reported by SSN now too:

Liverpool have rejected a £23m bid from Crystal Palace for striker Christian Benteke.
Palace offered to pay £23m up front, with an additional extra £7m in add-ons, taking the total £30m.

Jokers! Probably £2m if we win the league, £2m if we win the champions league, £2m if he scores 50 goals in a month... + £1m if a shot lands on the moon

So, would we have a special price for Everton? God knows they'd have a special price for us. Perhaps they could throw Baines in to sweeten the deal?

I do this shit on football manager all the time. Put a cheeky bid in of a couple of mill then 10's of millions of addons that I know they'll never reach. To be fair they rarely fall for it on football manager either

Meh, I could never be bothered with the negotiations and rejections, I always paid up front over the odds for the players I wanted. Used to spend hours when free transfers became available looking at my scout reports etc.

Those were the days, no responsibilities. But this is a topic for a different thread.

Yes, but within limits. I'd sell, even to them, for a little under what we're hoping for (say £27-28 mill) in preference to not selling him at all.

With WBA, Palace and reportedly Sunderland interested I hope we sell to one of them in all honesty.
He would probably do well at the Blueshite.

Benteke would have had to win Wimbledon, the British Grand Prix and MasterChef for the £7million worth of add-ons to be triggered. #LFC
But the real deal breaker was the add on clause for 1 million which is activated only when Pardew doesn't behave like a twat for 3 consecutive games.

Why does that make us a joke?
Chelsea and United get bare P when they sell players they dont want. We dont need the money so why not hold out for what we think hes worth?

I dont understand the negative. We will sell him at the price we think hes worth.

We paid 32m in last years market. In this years market Bolasie is worth 28m and Pogba 90m
So lets wait for the right offer.

That we've rejected a 30m bid obviously, hence the timing and the thread.

Am... didn't they bid 25 million and we turned it down? They returned with a bid of 23 mil + 7 million in add ons so we turned that down as well.

We haven't even rejected a 30 million bid. We've rejected a 25 million bid and then a follow up bid which was less than their original bid.

Not sure how that makes us a joke. Binomial is a bit mad at times.
