Arsenal FA Cup post match

We'd be waiting a fuck of a lot longer if we prioritised worthless cup competitions over getting the CL money to put together the kind of squad a club like ours deserves.

A club like ours should be more than capable of doing both . And we've spent fuck loads down the years on complete shite . What makes you think this time would be any different ? . Rodgers hasn't exactly inspired confidence with his dealings , bar coutinho and sturridge the rest are all up for debate , sit on the bench or are out on loan.

What other choice do we have? The squad needs to be better - there's a chance we'll improve it by spending money. Plus spending it well gets much easier with CL football. Plus it means we can keep the quality players we've got.

I had an Arsenal fan message me saying "justice." When I explained how it wasn't actually justice he retorted with "we're 2 places above you and in 2 cups you're not", then when I said they won't win the league or the CL, could well win the FA cup but it's hardly a good reflection of near 10 years work, he shut up.

That still doesn't explain why he thought it was justice, i hope you called him a bad name.

He was just saying whatever gibberish came to him as I was clearly getting the better of the exchanges. He's a really good mate, though, so I've refrained for now.

He's not a proper football fan. The same lad was a Chelsea fan when he first started watching football, then a Man Utd fan, and now he's an Arsenal fan. I think he's fairly aware his opinion isn't valid.

Oh dear, they really do exist then.

Yikes! We are now the chihuahuas being trampled upon by the looks of the disappointments.

Realistically we are not good enough to win anything this year. So I am just enjoying the way we are playing now whether we win the game or not. That is perspective for me.

Imagine that! 18 months in and he's only signed 2 gems. Elevated youngsters to the first team. Has us playing football that's a joy to watch. Football that we havnt seen from our team for ages. Has us in CL qualification place and maybe higher.

Get a fucking grip of yourself!

A club like ours who hasn't won the League in twenty-five years?

You're fucking delusional if you think we couldn't do with more money.
You're even more delusional if you think there was a time when success wasn't based on money, or finishing well in the league.

I think he has got a grip on himself and has given himself too much self-loving.

Where did i say we couldn't do with more money ? All i am pointing out is that even if we have it there is no guarantee we'll spend it well , history proves we don't generally.

I don't mind losing away to arsenal in the cup , it was always going to be hard . I just don't get this attitude that actually winning things isn't important as long as we get 4th . Fuck that i'm greedy , i want both .

Ah now , this is comedy gold . Let me know when your stand up show is touring , i don't want to miss out on tickets .

I think some of you are hypocritical. Same people who now say "we don't no stinkin' FA Cup" would have been over the moon had we won it. Certainly when we beat West Ham in 2006 people seemed to give a shit about the Cup.

Our defence is our Achilles' heel.

Porous as feck.
Not saying I disagree, but no Sakho, Enrique, Johnson. Agger just returning. Lucas injured much of the season. No settled defence. Never a good recipe. I also think that defence is not exactly BR's priority. I love the football we play at times. Get the defence right (and it may just be keeping a settled back 4) and we'll be a bigger force. Just bear in mind the obvious reasons why our defence isn't our strongpoint.

So yet again we get denied a blatant penalty on Suarez with a South Yorkshire police officer reffing the game. I mean they have no record of ever being bent against Liverpool have they.....

But we had CL football then (in fact we've just won big ears) and the future looked rosy.
It's different now as we're fighting for a CL place.

You know what else was awesome that season? Finishing third ahead of THE ARSENAL and feeling like we were a team on the up again. Hahahaha
Maybe the I've been spoilt by seeing us lift the FA Cup twice now, but it hurts very much to have no conscious memory of us winning the league. And that gnawing feeling that we haven't been in Europe too too long. It makes you feel like we aren't one of the big boys any more. It is really fucking shit knowing that we aren't one of the club anymore. Or that Spurs or Everton are above you.

So I'm not being hypocritical. I do enjoy the FA Cup but hand on heart, I would give it up if it meant we were in Europe again.

And our left side is the weakest link in that porous heel.

I agree. It's not that everything else is perfect, but Cissokho is certainly the weakest link. He constantly leaves his side open for the opposition to break, and more than once Gerrard and others had to cover up.

A few thoughts re yesterday's game:

We played well. Very well. It was a tough away game against a team eager to revenge and we were by far the better team.
Sterling was fantastic. This lad is quickly developing into a top class player.
Sturridge's misses cost us the game. Had he scored one of the 3 chances he had (which he normally does) the final result would have been different.
Cissokho is the weakest link. I hope we see a fit (and arsed) Johnson and/or a fit Enrique back soon.
Webb is a joke of a referee. How could he not give a penalty for that foul on Suarez when it took place just in front of his open eyes?!
I hope BR and the team takes the positives from this game and move forward keeping the momentum for the rest of the league fixtures.

I think EVERYONE would have liked to have progressed, but a FA cup win, like it or not, is less important to the prestige of our club than being in the Champs league. I also think most of us are happy that we went out as the superior team in one of the toughest grounds in English football to get a result, against a top team. It is shite, but at least we weren't taken to the cleaners (except by Howard Webb). We don't have an inferiority complex against anyone. It bodes well for the games to come.

Doc, I agree with you about the importance of the FA Cup being devalued, but.... to win away against a top team, secure a home QF tie against local rivals, with a realistic chance of making the final and qualifying for the CL would have been a great result.

Beating Arsenal might have further damaged their confidence with their season in meltdown.

It could have bred the confidence and self belief that we will need - that winning mentality.

Many positive yes, but still a few too many negatives.

The most positive thing I took from that match wasn't that we outplayed them.

It was that Rodgers made a brave, bold tactical decision in match to enable us to pile the pressure on when it counted.

He has the tactical nous to do it in game, something I'll admit that wasn't sure of early in his time here.
