Arsenal FA Cup post match

Don't go along with all this nonsense about being able to concentrate on one thing as a positive. Football is all about momentum.

Absolutely. If we do get fourth this season, supposedly by dint of our relative absence of draining 'distractions', people will be in for a hell of a shock next season. What are we supposed to do then? Do people think Ian Ayre is going to go out in the summer and buy six top class reinforcements? If this is as much as our frail bunch can manage in a relatively 'free' year, there's only one place where we'll go next season and that's backwards. The whole squad needs to man up and get on with it. And if we're going to play silly arses with semi-retired second choice keepers then for god's sake go out and buy a good one.

Devastated, we played really well compared with the league game there but come away with nothing and another season potentially without a trophy.

Sturridge missed a hatful, Suarez also missed a fair few even if not as easy, Coutinho and Sterling too.

Hopefully the anger at getting knocked out spurs us onto winning the next 12 games.

Oh and I thought Sterling was by miles our best best player.

Jones played better than Ming has in about the last 3 months.

His distribution, commanding of his area and ball control were all excellent.
He also pulled off a superb save.

Couldn't blame him for either goal

I like this post except for keeper bit. I thought he did well.

Jesus, lads... Some of yiz are acting like those who are finding positives in today would have been gutted if we'd won! Come on...

What's more important? A cup run or a stronger chance at the European Cup next season..? If the answer for you is the latter, then today MAY end up being a positive, for the reasons already expressed... We played well, got f$#!ed by the ref, out of a replay and potential Everton rematch. Two very tough games, as we begin to enter a spell that will decide our fate this year, and next.

We all want to win every game that we play, but not every defeat is a disaster.

It's a good point, Jones was fantastic today.

Play him in the league then. Or has it exhausted him? Who else hasn't played for ages and has done nothing to deserve a call up? Sama. That's the one. He should start the next game too. Aspas. There's another. He needs a run out. Someone must be tired, he can take their place.

We battered Arsenal at the Emirates and were denied a blatant penalty by Howard Webb, it's gutting, but not the end of the world. The fact that some Arsenal fans think this cancels the Anfield game is quite hilarious, you got battered away from home, and hung on to win to win despite being the worse team and needing the refs assistance, well done, but don't get ahead of yourselves.

Lose the attitude, he played well and deserves praise for that. There was nothing wrong with the line up today, or with the way we played, it was a hard away game, and they won despite being the worse side, thanks to some hilariously awful refereeing.

It's all part of Rodgers plan to Weaken arsenal and strengthen our run in. Clearly he told the lads to go out and show you are better, but throw the game,,

Is he your first choice? Lose the hypocrisy. Oh yes, and for the first goal he went down so slowly he looked like a mediocre keeper who wasn't match fit. I wonder why.

Pretty disappointed by the result.

The game was a perfect example of everything that's good & bad about us.

Ming should play against Swansea. End off. Great that Jones did alright today if he has to step in at some point.
Dont know why people make such a big deal about changing goalkeepers. Havent every other top club done exacty the same?

I had an Arsenal fan message me saying "justice." When I explained how it wasn't actually justice he retorted with "we're 2 places above you and in 2 cups you're not", then when I said they won't win the league or the CL, could well win the FA cup but it's hardly a good reflection of near 10 years work, he shut up.

If there's a time for a reserve keeper to get 'match fit' it was this match.
We have to keep him fresh and the league is too important

Would have taken one loss one win to arsenal if asked three weeks ago. And no I wouldn't have traded the 5-1 for the cup.

If Mignolet gets injured it's good to know Jones has looked reliable enough behind our defence. Don't see the issue

Exactly. He's our no. 2 keeper, not some kid from our u-18s.
Yes we've had some shit ones but you should be able to trust your back up.

I was annoyed during the match because I wanted to see all that effort rewarded with something, but I think it should ultimately be helpful to our league campaign so that's the main thing.

Couldn't give a shit about actually winning the cup btw. I think it's almost completely worthless except as part of the double. I wish they'd cut the fucking thing down to size: no replays, no weekend matches beyond the 4th round etc.

if they invent time travel in my lifetime they'll probably be surprised by my request - "take me back to a time when winning the FA Cup meant something and finishing 4th was a failure " . Fuck the state of the game today .

I'm interested in the longer-term success of the club. If that means that 4th place this year is better than winning the FA Cup, I'll live with that. Of course winning the FA Cup would be great, and of course trophies are what we are about, but an FA Cup win where we are smiling about Suarez being able to leave on a high note would be bitter-sweet at best. I want to see Liverpool back on top, I'd like my children to experience that. Sadly, its no longer the people's game - without the glamour and the money of Champions League we are competing on a lower level - and the fear is that we may be running out of time to re-join the higher echelons. That's why today's game for me was the 13th most important in the remainder of the season.
Certainly there's a lot of conjecture about how competing in the Cup could affect us in the league, but forgive me for not feeling too despondent, and also for being a little irritated by so much pompous guff.
